  • Patent number: 4895432
Abstract: A display device including a pair of opposed substrates at least one of which is transparent with a display medium layer therebetween, and a transparent electrode arranged on the internal surface of the transparent substrate is provided. The thickness of the transparent electrode is about ((5500.times.N)/(2.times.n)).ANG. wherein N is a natural number and n represents the refractive index thereof. When a transparent insulating film is formed on the transparent electrode, the thickness of the transparent insulating film is about ((5500.times.N)/(2.times.m)).ANG. wherein N is a natural number and m represents the refractive index thereof. When the refractive index of n.sub.1 of the transparent insulating film is substantially equal to the refractive index n.sub.2 of the transparent electrode, the value, 2.times.(n.sub.1 .times.d.sub.1 +n.sub.2 .times.d.sub.2) equals about (5500.times.N).ANG. wherein N is a natural number, d.sub.1 represents the thickness of the transparent insulating film and d.sub.

  • Patent number: 4859037
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved positive type liquid crystal display device in the birefringence mode, wherein at least one of the polarizers is a colored polarizer including the character of making the background color of the display approximately white, thereby improving the contrast ratio extremely. Further, in the negative type liquid crystal display device, a color filter for absorbing the light of the wavelength area which transmits at the time of an off state and non-selecting, is provided in series with respect to a light source and the liquid crystal display portion, thereby preventing the color shading of the background color.

  • Patent number: 4718751
Abstract: An optical panel having superior environment resisting properties is provided. An increase in electrical resistance is prevented by heat treating the electrode in a vacuum at a temperature between about 200.degree. and 600.degree. C. Electrolytic corrosion resistance of the panel is provided by coating at least the non-conductive portions of the terminal portions of the panel with a water-repellant material.

  • Patent number: 4715686
Abstract: A viewing plate for liquid crystal displays and the like which has an anti-reflecting coating is sealed to the front surface of a liquid crystal display element by means of a transparent adhesive layer of pre-embossed thermoplastic material. The assembled viewing plate, the transparent adhesive material, and the display are heated while the space between the layers is evacuated to remove included air and to press the parts together, forming an integral liquid crystal display having uniform optical qualities.

  • Patent number: 4660935
Abstract: A matrix-type liquid crystal display device for use in alphanumeric and television displays, and the like, has a screen in which division of images produced by the display screen resulting from assembly error is eliminated by means of reduction in the areas of the picture forming elements near the region where end portions of the signal electrodes project between control electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4640583
Abstract: A display panel having a pair of spaced apart flexible substrates and a display medium sandwiched therebetween. A multiple seal contains the display medium between the substrates and maintains the substrates in spaced separation. The multiple seal includes a first seal for strongly adhering to the substrates and a second seal for forming a low water permeability seal. A process for the production of a display panel having a pair of spaced apart flexible substrates and a display medium sandwiched therebetween. A first sealant which strongly adheres to the substrates is printed on the interior surface of one substrate. A second seal, which has low water permeability, is printed on the other substrate. A spacer is scattered on at least one of the substrates. The substrates are combined together and the sealants are cured to form a display panel.

  • Patent number: 4526818
Abstract: A liquid crystal display panel having uniform cell thickness is composed of a first substrate and a second opposed substrate where each substrate has cooperating electrodes selectively disposed on the interior surfaces thereof. At least one of the substrates is a laminate of two flexible plastic films and a polarizing film therebetween. The plastic films have different thermal expansion coefficients, with the thermal expansion coefficient of the film on the interior surface being less than the thermal expansion coefficient of the film on the opposed substrate so that the center of the substrate is biased convexly towards the opposed substrate. Substantially rigid spacer members are disposed between the substrates. Adhesive substances are disposed about the periphery of the substrates for coupling the substrates and maintaining the display panel assembled. The at least one substrate is a laminate biased against the spacer members for maintaining uniform thickness across the display panel.
