  • Patent number: 7821891
Abstract: An optical disc apparatus may write information to an optical disc by forming a mark and a space on the optical disc. The optical disc apparatus may include a write stopping unit, a deviation calculating unit, and a write strategy correction unit. The write stopping unit may temporarily stop writing of information to the optical disc at a predetermined time. The deviation calculating unit may obtain a deviation value of written information just before writing of information is stopped by the write stopping unit. The write strategy correcting unit may correct a write strategy based on the deviation and the previously-stored inherent variation. Writing of information to the optical disc may be restarted using the corrected write strategy.

  • Patent number: 7529169
Abstract: An optical disc device includes means for recording and reproducing information using a reference write strategy or an alternative write strategy in which pulse widths of 3T, 4T and 5-14T marks are individually varied, when the information is recorded using 1T strategy. The device also includes means for measuring a length of each of the marks, and memory for storing the measured length of each of the marks and a theoretical length of each of the marks. The device further includes means for computing inherent contractile rates of the marks; and means for computing a variation rate of the inherent contractile rate of each of the marks when pulse widths of 3T, 4T and 5-14T marks are individually varied and obtaining a variance of each of the marks. The optical disc device sets the write strategy such that the variance is minimized.

  • Patent number: 7489611
Abstract: An optical disc device measures lengths of each mark and each land recorded using a reference write strategy and an alternative write strategy in which at least one parameter is varied in two or more combinations of marks and lands. A deviation value of each of the marks and lands is computed by shifting the write strategy on the basis of the lengths. Inherent contractile rates of all marks and lands are computed from the computed deviation value and the probability of occurrence of each of the marks and lands. A variance of the deviations by the combination of each of the marks and lands is computed from the computed deviation value. The write strategy is set using the computed inherent contractile rates such that the computed variance is minimized.

  • Patent number: 7339863
Abstract: A method is designed for recording contents information along a track of an optical disk of a writeable type. A volume detection step is carried out for detecting an actual volume of the contents information to be recorded into the optical disk. A capacity detection step is carried out for detecting a nominal capacity of the optical disk, which indicates a rated volume of information to be recorded at maximum. A density determination step is carried out for determining a recording density of the contents information based on the detected actual volume and the detected nominal capacity. A recording step is carried out for recording the contents information into the optical disk at the determined recording density such that the actual volume of the contents information can fit into the nominal capacity of the optical disk.

  • Publication number: 20070008850
Abstract: An apparatus and method for optically recording data may rapidly establish a high precision write strategy even when data is recorded at high speed. In the apparatus and method, test data including marks and spaces are recorded in an optical recording medium according to a predetermined write strategy. The recorded test data is read from the optical recording medium to produce a binary reproducing signal having mark pulses and spaces pulses corresponding to the marks and the spaces. A clock signal having a predetermined frequency is produced. Deviation values are detected between edge timing of the reproducing signal and the clock signal for edges of the respective marks of the reproducing signal. For each of the marks, the predetermined write strategy is compensated for, to equalize the deviation values.

  • Publication number: 20060285458
Abstract: An optical writing apparatus that can set a write power for recording information on an optical recording medium and a method of setting a write power thereof are provided. The method of setting a write power of the optical writing apparatus includes calculating a first deviation between a theoretical length and a written length of each mark when applying a first power ratio, calculating a second deviation between a theoretical length and a written length of each mark when applying a second power ratio, and estimating the deviation at a power ratio other than the first and second power ratios, based on the first deviation values and second deviation values. Variance values of deviations at each power ratio may be determined from the calculated deviations and the estimated deviation. A write power may be set by applying a power ratio corresponding to a minimum variance value among the variance values.
