  • Publication number: 20220100924
Abstract: A method of characterizing a material of an additively manufactured (AM) part includes establishing a computer aided engineering (CAE) model of the AM part, applying an excitation to the AM part, wherein boundary conditions of the AM part are free-free, measuring a vibration response of the AM part at predefined discretization points to generate vibration data, post processing the vibration data to obtain actual noise-vibration-harshness (NVH) modes of the AM part, comparing the actual NVH modes to NVH modes from the CAE model and calculating average differences, and updating the plurality of material properties in the CAE model if the average differences exceed a predetermined threshold. Executing an NVH CAE modal analysis, obtaining updated NVH CAE modes, and comparing new NVH modes to prior NVH modes is repeated with updated material properties if the average differences between updated NVH CAE modes and actual NVH modes are above the predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 10065482
Abstract: An exemplary vehicle flow influencing assembly includes a deflector formed together with a seal that provides a portion of a glass run for a side window of a vehicle. The deflector projects outward from the vehicle when the side window is lowered such that the deflector influences flow over an opening to a passenger compartment of the vehicle. A vehicle flow influencing assembly includes a pillar that is directly forward a side window of a vehicle, and a deflector configured to influence flow over an opening to a passenger compartment of the vehicle. The opening is provided by positioning the side window in an open position. The deflector extends longitudinally in a direction aligned with the pillar. The deflector projects outward from a primary surface of the pillar when the side window is closed and when the side window is open.

  • Patent number: 6081654
Abstract: An interactive method and system for designing a door system for an automotive vehicle without the necessity of building a prototype is disclosed. Initially, a door system design is selected and a set of door system data describing attributes of a door structure, a door opening panel (DOP), mating surfaces of the DOP and the vehicle, vehicle attributes, hardware attributes, and seal system attributes are generated based on the selected design. A door system model is then generated from the door system data, and a design criteria for the door system is selected. Door system performance is then determined using predetermined conditions based upon the door system model by computing and displaying time histories of predefined parameters of the door system, door related hardware, and vehicle passenger compartment.

  • Patent number: 5940788
Abstract: A method and system for designing a door seal system is based upon a predicted contribution of the door seal system to sound pressure levels (SPLs) within a vehicle due to wind noise. A door seal system design is selected and a door seal system deformed geometry is determined. The deformed door seal system and acoustic media are combined to produce a fully coupled acoustic/structure model of the door seal system. A sound transmission loss is predicted for the door seal system design under predetermined conditions using acoustics, finite deformation rubber elasticity, and steady state harmonic viscoelasticity. The sound transmission loss and interior SPLs are then displayed, and the door seal design changed according to predefined rules to produce a seal design which provides a desired SPL in the vehicle.
