  • Patent number: 8318615
Abstract: A launderable and reusable, leak-proof, breathable fabric and, more specifically, a composite fabric comprised of a liquid absorptive layer and a liquid impervious but vapor permeable layer. Such fabric is useful in drawing fluids, such as bodily fluids, away from a source, such as the body, and retaining them within the absorptive layer while evaporation thereof takes place though the vapor permeable layer. This material consists of two juxtaposed layers. The inner layer has the characteristic of being liquid permeable so as to allow the body fluids to flow into it and be absorbed. The outer layer has the characteristic of being liquid impermeable but air or vapor permeable, so that the liquid absorbed in the inner layer does not strike through the outer layer.

  • Publication number: 20090257966
Abstract: A wax-resin composite is made by melting thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin, optionally with an antioxidant. The melted thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin and waxes are blended at a temperature sufficient to melt the waxes. After blending and melting, the blended thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin and waxes are allowed to solidify. Solidification is followed by post-processing the wax-resin composite mixture to form slabs, pastilles, flakes or other forms. A method for producing a wax-resin composite comprises at least partially solvating a thermoplastic resin in a solvent to form a resin-solvent blend. This may be done at a heat of 80-85° C. A composition of molten wax is blended with the resin-solvent blend. The resin-solvent blend and a molten wax are blended to form a wax-resin blend. This is followed by removing the solvent from said wax-resin blend.

  • Publication number: 20080014233
Abstract: A hybrid coating material and process for pigments and other powders, for example cosmetic powders employs an organometallate, for example a titanate, and a functionalized silicon compound, for example a trialkoxysilane or a functionalized polysiloxane, which covalently bond to each other and to the substrate powder. The coated powders can exhibit excellent hydrophobicity coupled with lipophilicity. Employment of fluorinated silicon compounds may provide hydrophobicity and lipophobicity. Examples show good dispersibility of coated pigments in aqueous, oil and silicone fluids.

  • Publication number: 20060154072
Abstract: Novel organosilicon-treated cosmetic powders, for example, a pigment, extender pigment or filler are free from residual hydrogen, have a smooth feel, good skin adhesion, good color and spreadability and resistance to acids and alkalis. The treated powders are useful in cosmetics such as powder formulations, oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions, anhydrous make-up and lipstick. Treatment can be effected with a linear reactive alkylpolysiloxane having substituted in repeating units in the backbone of the molecule both cationic and anionic groups, for example aminoethylaminopropyl and alkoxy groups. The organosilicon compound can be adsorbed and chemically bonded to the surface of the powder by heat treatment. The alkylpolysiloxane compound can have a degree of polymerization of from 5 to 100, preferably 10-15. A process for producing the treated pigment is also disclosed as are cosmetic formulations made with the treated pigment.
