  • Patent number: 4967962
Abstract: A high-pressure fluid processing device is provided, which is improved for application of impinging fluid jets to process an object, such as a woven fabric, to increase uniformity of application and processing of the object. Particularly, the present invention is useful for processing woven fabrics having small thicknesses and lower densities by compensation for overlapping regions that occur during high-pressure fluid processing. The high-pressure fluid processing device includes a header means that is translationally rotationally driven from a frame so as to move a plurality of nozzles thereon in circles to impinged the object conveyed thereunder with high-pressure fluid jets. Moreover, the device includes masking members that are positioned between the nozzles and the object to be processed so as to block at least some of the jet flow of fluid to increase uniformity of processing and to avoid unwanted bunching or shifting of fibers in a processed fabric.

  • Patent number: 4707565
Abstract: In a substrate of a printed circuit, a metal foil is mounted onto at least one of the outermost surfaces of a laminate made of a plurality of glass fiber woven fabrics impregnated with synthetic resin, and heated and pressed. Warps and wefts of the glass fiber fabrics filamentated their filaments. The synthetic resin enters gaps among the opening filaments so that the vertically laminated glass fiber fabrics including the opening fibers are integrally jointed with each other. Warps and wefts of the glass fiber fabrics may have their surfaces made fuzzy so that the synthetic resin enters fuzzy filaments. Furthermore, the thus produced substrate may be used as a multilayer printed circuit substrate.

  • Patent number: 4415126
Abstract: Apparatus for reciprocating a yarn guide to wind yarn on a bobbin including a rotating scroll cam provided with an endless helical cam groove and a second cam groove in superposed relationship with the endless cam groove and having a greater lead angle than the endless cam groove over a predetermined distance adjacent each turning point. The yarn guide is provided with an elongate ship-shaped cam follower slidably fitted into the endless cam groove and pivotable with respect to the yarn guide and a cylindrical cam follower slidably fitted into the second cam groove. The width of the portion of the endless cam groove adjacent each turning point is gradually increased toward the turning point so as to permit the elongate cam follower to smoothly reverse its direction when it passes the turning point.

  • Patent number: 4413791
Abstract: An apparatus for winding a strand of glass fibers drawn from a bushing, having a rotatable turret and at least two winding collets mounted on the turret and adapted to be brought into a winding position one by one upon rotation of the turret. Each winding collet is provided at its free end with a waste strand winding portion having a frusto-conical strand guide surface coaxially extending with the collet and converged towards its free end, an annular strand stopping wall radially outwardly extending from the free end of the frusto-conical guide surface, at least one crescent-shaped wall surface extending radially inwardly from a portion of the outer periphery at the free end of the guide surface and formed thereon with a plurality of parallel grooves extending at a right angle to the diameter of the guide surface, and a crescent-shaped flat portion extending from a portion of the outer periphery of the stopping wall in confronting spaced relationship with the crescent-shaped wall surface.

  • Patent number: 4383653
Abstract: A traverse motion used in combination with a device for winding a continous elongate element such as a strand consisting of a large number of glass filaments drawn through a bushing with a large number of nozzles. In the traverse motion of the type including a scroll cam with an endless cam groove consisting of at least one pair of right- and left-hand grooves joined at each end and a strand guide which has a cam follower fitted in the endless cam groove of the scroll cam and is adapted to reciprocate along a straight path in parallel with the axis of the shaft of the scroll cam when the latter is rotated, the lead angle of the endless cam groove is increased adjacent to its ends or adjacent to each returning point of the cam follower so that the guide is increased in velocity adjacent to each returning point.

  • Patent number: 4342430
Abstract: In drawing glass fiber from a glass melting furnace to form a multiplicity of filaments which are first divided and formed into a plurality of strands which are then wound on a single spindle to form a plurality of square-ended packages thereon, the strands are shifted to a front waste take-up portion of the spindle by means of a guide which is moved from the rear end to the front end of the spindle across the paths of movements of the strands when the packages are fully wound, to enable the fully wound spindle to be replaced by a new spindle without interrupting the drawing of glass fiber. The spacing between the spindle and the path of travel of the guide and the speed of travel of the guide are set at a low level and a high level respectively which are sufficient to ensure at least loose portions of the strands, which are produced when they drop into the groove between the adjacent packages, to be immediately wound on the peripheral surface of the adjacent package.

  • Patent number: 4130406
Abstract: A method of detecting breakages of glass fiber filaments being drawn through orifies of an orifice plate by converting the variation in intensity of radiant light or heat emitted from a bead of molten glass which grows on the undersurface of the orifices plate at an orifice at which a breakage occurs into an electrical signal by a radiation thermometer which is so arranged as to reciprocate horizontally in parallel with both one side and said undersurface of said orifice plate, whereby the breakage may be detected.
