  • Publication number: 20150370619
Abstract: Provided is a management system managing a computer system including apparatuses to be monitored. The management system holds configuration information on the computer system, analysis rules and plan execution effect rules. The analysis rules each associates a causal event that may occur in the computer system with derivative events that may occur by effects of the causal event and defines the causal event and the derivative events with types of components in the computer system. The plan execution effect rules each indicates types of components that may be affected by a computer system configuration change and specifics of the effects. The management system identifies a first event that may occur when a first plan changing the computer system configuration is executed using the plan execution effect rules and the configuration information, and identifies a range where the first event affects using the analysis rules and the configuration information.

  • Publication number: 20150188752
Abstract: A root cause analysis engine uses event survival times and gradual deletion of events to improve analysis accuracy and reduce the number of required calculations. Certainty factors of relevant rules are recalculated every time notification of an event is received. The calculation results are held in a rule memory in the analysis engine. Each event has a survival time, and when the time has expired, that event is deleted from the rule memory. Events held in the rule memory can be deleted without affecting other events held in the rule memory. The analysis engine can then re-calculate the certainty factor of each rule by only performing the re-calculation with respect to affected rules that are related with the deleted event. The calculation cost can be reduced because analysis engine processes events incrementally or decrementally.

  • Patent number: 9003230
Abstract: A technique determines which configuration change(s) caused an application invocation failure of a computer application without the need for a knowledge database. To determine which configuration change is the most likely cause, the cause analysis program checks other computers that have experienced the same configuration changes. The cause analysis program checks and counts the application invocation results before and after each configuration change is done. If the same configuration changes are found in the other computers, the program checks whether each configuration change caused or cured the same problem in that computer. The program counts the similar cases for all of the computers. Subsequently, the program calculates the ratio of those instances involving a change from success to failure and the ratio of those instances involving a change from failure to success out of all instances for each configuration change.
