  • Patent number: 5864744
Abstract: The object of the invention is a reactive sintering method of forming intermetallic materials such as TiNi, TiAl which includes the preparation of a mixture of elemental metallic powders in desired proportions (1) (2), the compression (3) of the mixture of these elemental powders so as to obtain a tablet of powders, then the cladding (4) of this tablet of powders in a cladding resistant to pressure and heat, the clad product then being subjected to a reactive sintering (5) to obtain the intermetallic compound and to a final hot densification operation (6) . Generally, the cladding is removed (7).

  • Patent number: 5788142
Abstract: A process for joining two parts of which at least one is made of an intermetallic material comprises:mixing elemental powders to form an intermetallic compound of the same type as that of the intermetallic part or parts;compacting and forming an intermediate part from the said compound at a temperature below that of the reaction sintering temperature of the compound;placing the intermediate part in position between the two parts to be joined;subjecting the assembly of parts to a first thermal cycle so as to effect a reaction sintering of the intermediate part and a consolidation of the assembly; and, subjecting the assembly to a second thermal cycle at a temperature above 0.8 of the fusion temperature of said intermetallic compound so as to effect a diffusion treatment and mechanical consolidation of the assembly. The process may also be adapted to form a coating or a repair of a part using an intermetallic material.

  • Patent number: 5191955
Abstract: A brake fitting comprising a plurality of studs separated from each other by spaces, each stud made of a sintered friction product laterally sheathed by a less fragile sintered metal bead which extends into the spaces between the studs. The fitting further comprises a metal support having a surface on which the studs are fixed, the surface of the metal support being coated by grains of a braze-welding powder which are diffusion bonded thereto. The studs are continuously welded at their base portions to the coated metal support surface.

  • Patent number: 5124118
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a brake fitting comprising a plurality of studs each surrounded by a less fragile belt, the studs being non-contiguously secured to a metal support. According to the method, the support is provided with a slip-resistant surface by coating with a braze welding suspension which is oxidized and reduced. Stud blanks then are molded and compacted from powdered friction products and belt blanks are molded and compacted from metal powders and given an internal diameter 1.005 to 1.05 times the external diameter of the stud blanks, and the belt blanks are disposed around the stud blanks and sintered, obtaining sheathed stud blanks which are placed on the slip resistant surface of the support, and welded thereto by heat treatment. Finally, the sheathed stud blanks are forged at over 400 degree C., shortening them by at least 15%.
