  • Patent number: 5557072
Abstract: A superconductive conductor protected against partial transitions, the conductor comprising a superconductive region made up of superconductive filaments embedded in a non-superconductive metal matrix, and a non-superconductive metal region, wherein the cold resistivity of the non-superconductive metal region is less than half the overall cold resistivity of the superconductive region in the non-superconductive state, the superconductive region and the non-superconductive metal region being merely in mechanical contact, without cohesion.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 17, 1996
    Assignee: GEC Alsthom SA
Inventors: Thierry Verhaege, Alain Fevrier, Alain Lacaze, Yves Laumond
  • Patent number: 4862023
Abstract: A synchronous machine having a rotor which is fixed to a shaft supported in bearings, said machine having its rotor (1) and stator (2) windings cooled by very low temperature helium, with each of the windings and the gap (4) therebetween being in a vacuum enclosures. The said rotor and stator windings and the said gap are disposed inside a common enclosure (13) connected to a common vacuum source (17), and said gap is separated from the bearings (14) of the rotor shaft (3) by vacuum-resisting oil seals (15) and by cryogenic traps (16).

  • Patent number: 4816708
Abstract: A synchronous machine having a rotor fixed to a shaft carried by bearings (23), and having stator and rotor windings (1,2) which are superconducting and which are cooled by very low temperature helium, with each of the windings and the gap (5) therebetween being located in vacuum enclosure, the synchronous machine including the improvement whereby the stator windings are cooled by a bath of liquid helium (12), whereby the rotor windings are cooled by a flow of helium above its critical pressure (14, 15, 16), and whereby said flow of helium above its critical pressure and said liquid helium bath constitute parts of a circuit for cooling helium which is initially under high pressure, which is expanded (8) to a pressure slightly above its critical pressure, which is cooled in a heat exchanger (10) disposed in the liquid helium bath, which is heated by contact with the rotor windings, which is then liquified by further expansion (18), and which finally returned to the liquid helium bath (12).

  • Patent number: 4406960
Abstract: A laminated magnetic circuit stator with clamping fingers for a rotating electrodynamic machine, notably of the immersed bulb type. The force clamping the sheets (T1, T4) of the stator magnetic circuit is transmitted to clamping fingers (1) by radial levers (2) bearing on the shell (10) and subject, further from the stator axis, to a longitudinal thrust transmitted by bars (4) bearing on the shell beyond the heads (16) of the stator winding bars.

Date of Patent: September 27, 1983
    Assignee: Alsthom-Atlanatique
    Inventors: Roger Gillet, Yves Laumond
  • Patent number: 4101793
Abstract: The circulation of a low temperature cooling fluid is insured by thermal hon effect in a cryoalternator from within a closed loop circuit containing an inner rotating seal of the "bayonet" type with a very small radial gap. Longitudinal and radial piping within the rotor permits internal circulation of cooling fluid by thermal siphon effect across the "bayonet" type rotating inner seal in the absence of positive circulation by leakage of the coolant across the inner seal radial gap.
