  • Patent number: 5401482
Abstract: The invention relates to talc substances consisting of particles having a sheet structure. These substances are characterised in that each particle has internally the crystalline structure of talc which confers upon it certain specific properties of this mineral (softness, thermal stability) and has hydrophilic surface properties unlike the hydrophobic properties of mineral talc which give rise to useful reactivity. The substances according to the invention have a thermal and chemical stability range similar to that of talc. They can be manufactured by thermal or chemical means under conditions designed to avoid internal conversion of the talc and to effect the surface modifications consisting of replacing inert siloxane bridges by active hydrophilic groups.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1993
Date of Patent: March 28, 1995
Assignee: Talc de Luzenac (Societe Anonyme)
Inventors: Clauss: Frederic, Richard Baeza, Yves Pietrasanta, Alain Rousseau

  • Patent number: 4717744
Abstract: Fluorinated telomers which can be defined by the formula:R.sub.F --C.sub.m H.sub.2m --(CH.sub.2 --CR.sub.1 R.sub.2).sub.n X (I)wherein R.sub.F is a poly- or perfluorinated radical; X is iodine, chlorine or bromine; m is 0, 1 or 2; n is from 5 to 1000; R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl; and R.sub.2 is a --COOH or --CONR.sub.3 R.sub.4 group, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 being hydrogen or alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicals, such telomers being obtained by free radical reaction of an ethylenic monomer CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sub.1 R.sub.2 with a fluorinated telogen R.sub.F --C.sub.m H.sub.2m --X, and being excellent surfactants in aqueous media with special usefulness as additives to fire-fighting protein-based emulsifiers.

  • Patent number: 4638018
Abstract: The invention relates to acrylic telomers with grafts which can be cross linked by light, methods of synthesizing them and their applications. The telomers comprise a telogen of the mercaptan family, in particular dodecanethiol, and links of a taxogen of the acrylic family, some of which are grafted. The telomers are synthesized semi-continuously by radical initiation in the presence of initiators such as azobisisobutyronitrile, at a temperature below 75.degree. C., making it possible to obtain a number of links adapted to the desired applications. Grafting is carried out by means of glycidyl and aziridinyl groups.

Assignee: Cegedur Societe de Transformation de l'Aluminium Pechiney
Inventors: Gerard Bauduin, Bernard Boutevin, Willy-Jean Deiss, Yves Pietrasanta
  • Patent number: 4633004
Abstract: Fluorosilanes containing at least one partially or totally fluorinated chain and at least one silicon chain linked with a thioether bridge, the fluorosilanes being prepared by radical addition of a silicon thiol to a fluorinated olefin, and the fluorosilanes being useful intermediates for the preparation of fluorinated silicones such as fluorinated silicone elastomers.

  • Patent number: 4554373
Abstract: Telomers and cotelomers with at least one sequence which can be cross-linked by light, and a method of preparing them. They are of the general formula ##STR1## wherein the taxogen links --(X.sub.i)-- belong to the group made up of 2-hydroxy ethyl acrylate and methacrylate, acrylic or methacrylic acid, vinyl alcohol and allyl alcohol; the ##STR2## links emanate from the same taxogen X.sub.i, esterified by means of a group with at least one photo-crosslinkable double bond in its molecule; and where 1<x+y.ltoreq.1000, Z being chosen from the group --H, --Cl, --Br; and where R may be a simple or macromolecular radical, in the latter case leading to the formation of dual sequence cotelomers. The manufacturing process comprises telomerisation by redox or radical catalysis, followed by grafting on the photo-cross-linkable group, the first phase of telomerisation being duplicated in the case of a cotelomer. The main application for the products is in coating metals.
