  • Patent number: 4477435
Abstract: A composition and a method for regenerating wounded or damaged corneal epelium are described. The composition comprises an aqueous solution containing an effective amount of ocular extract RE. The RE is extracted from eye tissues, such as choroid, iris and vitreous as well as aqueous humor. The active extract is obtained by the treatment of bovine ocular tissues with a buffered aqueous saline solution at pH of about 7.2. For ophthalmological use, the RE extract is purified by precipitation with acetic acid and dialyzed against physiologic saline NaCl solution. Such a composition is shown to increase significantly the rate of healing of wounded corneal epithelium.
