Patent number: 11896807Abstract: Disclosed are plunger assemblies including various convertible plungers and methods of making the same. Each plunger assembly is configured for disposition within a barrel of a medical container, e.g., a syringe, and displaced within the barrel from an engagement position to a release position. The engagement position is configured to provide a compression seal between a storage sealing section of the plunger and an inner wall of the syringe barrel. In the release position, the compression seal is reduced or eliminated. Also disclosed are methods for making convertible plungers and assembling them into syringes, e.g., pre-filled syringes.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2021Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: SIO2 MATERIAL PRODUCTS, INCInventors: Brian Russell Lilly, Kenneth Wade Kelly, Joseph W. Rogers, Jean-Pierre Giraud, Bruce Rabinne, Herve Pichot, Benjamin Hunt, Zachary Dean Freeman, Dalton Roe, Robert S. Abrams

Patent number: 10327986Abstract: A parenteral vial, stopper and cap assembly comprises a vial having a body defining an interior, and an opening leading to the interior. The assembly further comprises a stopper configured to sealingly engage the opening, a cap configured to cover the opening and the stopper. The stopper and the cap fit together to form an integral unit configured to cap the vial. The cap moves with respect to the vial between a partially engaged position that permits gas flow out from the vial interior, and a fully engaged position in which the stopper sealingly engages the opening.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2014Date of Patent: June 25, 2019Assignee: SiO2 Medical Products, Inc.Inventors: Renato Gross, Zachary Dean Freeman

Patent number: 10258718Abstract: A process and apparatus for applying a needle lubricant to a syringe. The interface forces between the needle lubricant and the syringe at the tip of the needle are balanced by optimizing the flow rate of a positively pressurized gas that is delivered to the syringe. Such optimization prevents the formation of bubbles in the needle lubricant that is applied to the syringe, thereby providing a confluent, uniform and smooth lubricant coating on the exterior wall of the needle and prevents lubricant from contaminating inner portions of the syringe. The smooth and uniform lubricant coating may minimize dilation and glide forces and pain associated with the insertion of the needle into a patient's tissue. Additionally, a gas pulse may blow off the droplet of needle lubricant from the tip of the needle to further minimize dilation forces and associated patient pain.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2017Date of Patent: April 16, 2019Assignee: SiO2 Medical Products, Inc.Inventors: John Belfance, Jonathan Carleton Alt, Renato Gross, Zachary Dean Freeman, Benjamin Hunt, John Ferguson
