Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for implementing a multi-function control element in a Graphical User Interface (GUI). The method includes responsive to a cursor being away from a control element, present the control element in a compact state in the Graphical User Interface (GUI) within a display. The method also includes responsive to the cursor being over the control element, present the control element in an expanded state. The method includes responsive to receiving the selection of the option and determining the cursor is away from the control element, return the control element to the compact state from the expanded state.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a viewer-specific visitor history for a location are provided. In particular, a visitor history for a particular viewer and location can indicate a total number of users who have visited the location and can specifically identify one or more of a set of users using a facepile. The set of specifically identified users can be those users that have an associative link with the viewer and that are also associated with at least one location signal for the given location and for which the particular viewer is a permitted viewer. Thus, location signals having varying scopes of visibility information can be aggregated across a plurality of different web-services to provide a single, unified visitor history for a particular location and viewer, all while respecting user-specified visibility information.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for implementing a multi-function button in a Graphical User Interface (GUI). One method includes an operation for presenting a button in a compact state when a mouse cursor is away from the button. The button in the compact state is displayed in a first button format when options associated with the button are in an unselected state, and in a second button format when at least one option has been selected. The options are hidden when the button is presented in the compact state. The button is presented in an expanded state when the mouse cursor is over the button, where unselected options are presented in a first option format and selected options are presented in a second option format. Selection of any option is enabled while the button is in the expanded state.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that permit merchants, venue owners, and other entities defined within a location-based system to communicate with users. Additional communication capabilities are provided in a location-based service that permits merchants and other entities to engage users in different ways. One or more advertisers, merchants or other entities may be able to send messages to one or more users. For instance, if a user visits a venue more than a certain number of times in total, visits or “checks-in” to that venue over a period of time, indicates that the user follows or “likes” a particular venue or merchant, or performs some other activity with the location-based network, that merchant may be provided a vehicle for sending messages to those users. Targeted messages may be sent responsive to any information used in the location-based service, including active or passive user activity.
