    Abstract: Substituted borate and carborate anions having unusual properties of being exceptionally weakly nucleophilic and being soluble in non-polar solvents. One-electron oxidation of the anions yields the corresponding radicals. The compounds are useful, e.g., as electrolytes, catalysts, and electrochromic materials.
