  • Patent number: 9306733
Abstract: A method of synchronizing a time division duplex (TDD) multi-line, multi-carrier data communication system is provided. Synchronization is established using unique pseudo-random bit sequences (PRBS) from a common generator polynomial having different seed values. Due to low correlation of PRBS generated with different seed values, a remote unit can only synchronize to its intended signal effectively mitigating far-end and near-end crosstalk impact of large bandwidth very high speed digital subscriber lines (VDSL).

  • Patent number: 6085347
Abstract: DSP error detection and filtering of a modem signal using a simple, robust, and low cost technique. The DSP technique utilizes a equalizer/filter to adjust the amplitude and phase delay of the transmitted data signal. The modem on the DSP chip may include a demodulator, parser/interpreter module, start and stop bit module, and modulator. The demodulator may include a switch, equalizer/filter, processing module, bit converter, adder, and averaging module. The averaging module computes an average value for the error signal during the frame training sequence. The error signal is the output of the bit converter minus the output of the demodulator. After each bit of the error signal is fed into the averaging module, the averaging module computes a new average. The averaging module performs an adaptive process. The average value of the error signal is compared to a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 6084952
Abstract: A system and method for communicating electronic messages between a remote device and a messaging server over telephone lines using acoustic coupling. Information is communicated between the remote device and the messaging server using acoustical tones corresponding to the information. The messaging server provides store-and-forward capability for messages received from external sources and which are then forwarded to the remote device. The remote device generates acoustical tones corresponding to information to be transmitted to the messaging server. The acoustical tones are transmitted to the messaging server over a telephone network which is acoustically coupled to the remote device. The messaging server performs processing based on information received from the remote device. The messaging server generates acoustical tones corresponding to information, including messages, to be transmitted to the remote device.

  • Patent number: 5530364
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting the location of an incipient fault in an insulated power which includes the application of an excitation voltage to a power line to produce a partial discharge signal pulse at a fault along the power line. The surface of the power line is scanned with two axially spaced sensors disposed adjacent the surface of the power line, the sensors detecting the partial discharge signal pulse to produce discrete detected pulses. These detected pulses are combined to produce a combined signal having all amplitude level which reaches an extreme value when the fault is located equidistantly between the sensors. The sensors are moved along the power line until the fault is located substantially equidistantly between the sensors as indicated by the extreme amplitude level of the combined signal.
