Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating operation of a radio communication system that provides for multi rate data communications, such as a CDMA 2000 system that provides for 1×EV-DV communication services. A supplemental pilot, or control, signal generator embodied at a mobile station generates a supplemental pilot, or control, signal that is sent on a newly defined supplemental pilot, or control, channel. As the data rates of data communicated upon a reverse supplemental channel changes, corresponding changes are made to the power level of the reverse supplemental pilot, or control, signal.

Abstract: A method of communicating in a wireless system includes receiving resource scheduling information indicating a location of a resource for transmitting a packet, an indication of a target power level, and an indication of a first bandwidth, receiving an indication of a first transmission power level, determining a second transmission power level in accordance with the target power level, and at least one of the first bandwidth and the first transmission power level, and transmitting the packet at the location of the resource with the second transmission power level.

Abstract: A method for operating a station when discovering a service includes generating a first identifier of the service, generating a second identifier of the service in accordance with a first parameter, and transmitting a request instructing a generating of a third identifier, the request including the first identifier of the service and the first parameter. The method includes receiving a first response including the third identifier, determining that the first response is not valid when the second and third identifiers are not equal, and determining that the first response is valid when the second and third identifiers are equal.

Abstract: A method for operating a first station includes receiving a first management frame from a communications device, and generating an optimized management frame including a reference to the first management frame and update information for the first management frame specific to the first station. The method also includes transmitting the optimized management frame.

Abstract: System and method embodiments are provided for transmitting a packet to a wireless device using a partial identifier. The embodiments enable communication using partial addresses with reduced risk of collision between two devices that share the same partial identifier. In an embodiment, a method includes determining at the first wireless station a scrambled identifier for a second wireless station according to a synchronized time and a partial identifier corresponding to one of the first wireless station and the second wireless station, wherein the synchronized time is synchronized with a time in the second wireless station, and wherein the partial identifier comprises a portion of a device identifier for at least one of the first wireless station and the second wireless station, and transmitting a packet to the second wireless station, wherein the packet comprises a payload and a header, and wherein the header comprises the scrambled identifier.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for enabling WiFi offload by integrating the WiFi and cellular networks operations at a radio access network level. The embodiments include a WiFi network component configured to determine whether to send over a cellular air interface a packet designated for WiFi according to a predefined rule. If the rule is met, the WiFi network component sends the packet to a cellular network component over the cellular air interface. The cellular network component is configured to process the received packet for cellular transmission, and transmit the packet using the cellular air interface to a receiver device. The predefined rule comprises at least one of sending the packet using the cellular air interface if the packet belongs to a predefined packet type, if the packet has a size below a predefined threshold size, and if the nature of the destination address for the packet is a broadcast address.

A method for communications device operation includes receiving a pilot transmitted by a controller, computing a channel estimate for a channel between the controller and a communications device, the computing based on the pilot, computing a channel correlation matrix for the channel based on the channel estimate, and transmitting a reduced rank representation of the channel correlation matrix to the controller as a first feedback information. The method also includes adapting a first codebook based on the reduced rank representation of the channel correlation matrix, computing a representation of the channel using the adapted codebook, transmitting the representation of the channel as a second feedback information, and receiving a transmission beamformed based on the first feedback information and the second feedback information.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for implementing efficient uplink (UL) orthogonal frequency division-multiple access (OFDMA) transmission in wireless systems, such as in WiFi networks. An embodiment method includes sending, by an access point (AP) to a plurality of stations (STAs), scheduling information for periodic UL transmission, and sending, to the STAs, a short synchronous signal (SSS) in accordance with the scheduling information for periodic UL transmission. The method further includes receiving, from the STAs, a corresponding UL transmission in response to receiving the SSS. The UL transmission is sent by each of the plurality of the STAs at about a same time. The STAs wait for a time short interframe space (SIFS) after receiving the SSS, before sending, to the AP, the UL transmission.
