Abstract: Operating a cellular multiple-input and multiple-output system including a first device having an antenna array having a plurality of antennas, and a second device having at least two antennas includes a same uplink pilot signal broadcast from each antenna of the second device, and received at the antenna array of the first device. Depending on the received same uplink pilot signal, a first set of first device receiving parameters for the antenna array is determined. From each antenna of the at least two antennas of the second device, a corresponding uplink pilot signal is sent and received at the antenna array of the first device using the first set of first device receiving parameters. At the first device, for each received uplink pilot signal, a corresponding second set of first device receiving parameters is determined depending on the plurality of received orthogonal uplink pilot signals.

  • Patent number: 9930537
Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed for determining dynamic positioning of mobile cells. Dynamic positioning provides for navigating a mobile cell, such as an unmanned aerial vehicle or the like, to a location suitable for offloading current network traffic, such that the suitable location maximizes offloading capabilities. The methodology describes takes into account both the current traffic load on the network and the location of the highest system capacity-intensive mobile terminals in determining an initial position for deploying the mobile cell. Additionally, the location of the deployed mobile cell is optimized, over time, based on tracking the direction of movement of the highest capacity-intensive mobile terminals, and, in some embodiments, service quality indicators provided by the mobile terminals and/or contextual information captured by the mobile cell apparatus.

  • Patent number: 9860854
Abstract: In data transmission between a mobile terminal and a cellular network, a network component, e.g., a base station, establishes a downlink connection from the cellular network to the mobile terminal. The downlink connection uses one or more downlink carriers. Further, the network component identifies multiple uplink carriers which are available for establishing an uplink connection from the mobile terminal to the cellular network. The network component estimates impact of usage of the uplink carriers on power consumption of the mobile terminal. Depending on the estimated impact, the network component selects at least one of the uplink carriers for establishing the uplink connection.

  • Patent number: 9743364
Abstract: A system including a wireless communication device and a peripheral device communicate with each other using radio frequency (RF) waves that are propagated using a user's own body as a transmission medium. The wireless communication device selectively controls the transmit output power of the peripheral device to cause the peripheral device to transmit data and information in a low-power transmission mode. This minimizes the amount of RF waves that are received at the wireless communication device as reflected RF waves, but helps to ensure that the RF waves that do reach the wireless communication device are transmitted as surface waves along the user's skin. Responsive to the receipt of the surface waves, and based on a validity of the information carried by those surface waves, the wireless communication device transitions from a locked state to an unlocked state.
