  • Patent number: 8766518
Abstract: A high intensity discharge lamp includes an electrically insulating arc tube. A sealed shroud encloses the arc tube. An electrically conductive frame member is disposed inside the shroud and is electrically connected to an electrical conductor that extends in the arc tube. Electrically conductive foil is fastened to the frame member and forms a closed loop that encircles a leg of the arc tube by an angle in a range of at least 270 degrees to 360 degrees. The foil can be connected to the frame member and to itself. A distance from an outer surface of a flange of the arc tube leg to a proximal edge of the foil can range from 1.5 to 8 mm. A width of the foil can range from 1 mm to 4 mm.

  • Publication number: 20140117845
Abstract: Embodiments of a lamp comprise an arctube and an ignition aid that couples with the arctube to allow discharge to occur at lower breakdown voltages and without the need for radioactive material (e.g., Kr85). The ignition aid has an elongated body that extends in parallel relation to the arctube. One or more extension members extend from the elongated body to contact the arctube. In one example, the extension members include a pair of contacts, which couple with the arctube to provide both electrical connectivity and mechanical support.

  • Patent number: 8659225
Abstract: A high intensity discharge lamp includes an electrically insulating arc tube including a central portion with an interior discharge region and two legs each extending from an end of the central portion. The central portion is a larger size than the legs. Electrical conductors extend through each of the legs and are spaced apart from each other in the discharge region. A light transmitting envelope encloses the arc tube. A frame member is electrically attached to one of the conductors. An ignition aid includes an electrically conductive foil disposed around one of the legs and in electrical contact with the frame member. An electrically conductive crown disposed in electrical contact with the foil is located on or near the central portion.
