Patent number: 9079571Abstract: A method for operating a brake assist device for a vehicle and a brake assist system for carrying out the method involve effecting an assist function, in the absence of driver action, in a plurality of escalation stages on the basis of a distance of the vehicle from an object located in front of the vehicle. A warning indication is generated as an assist function and/or a braking process of the vehicle is initiated automatically. A road on which the vehicle is being driven is classified, and the execution of the assist function is permitted or prevented on the basis of the classification.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2011Date of Patent: July 14, 2015Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Juergen Trost, Zoltan Zomotor

Patent number: 7586402Abstract: The opening of vehicle doors often leads to collisions with stationary obstacles that are not visible to the occupants or with moving obstacles that approach the vehicle without being noticed. Thus to avoid collisions when vehicle doors are opened, the aim of the invention is to take any modifications to the environmental situation of the vehicle as a result of a movement of the vehicle and the detected objects into consideration. This allows a collision of the vehicle doors with the objects to be reliably avoided. To achieve this, in a first step the probable trajectory of a vehicle is determined. In an additional step, the objects in the vicinity of the vehicle are detected and probable trajectories of said detected objects are determined. Respective probability ranges are then defined both for the vehicle and the pivoting zone of the vehicle doors and for the detected objects.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2005Date of Patent: September 8, 2009Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Edgar Bihler, Ingo Dudeck, Uwe Franke, Axel Gern, Reinhard Janssen, Carsten Knoeppel, Frank-Werner Mohn, Rainer Moebus, Volker Oltmann, Uwe Regensburger, Helmut Schittenhelm, Reinhold Schoeb, Avshalom Suissa, Bernd Woltermann, Zoltan Zomotor

Patent number: 7424364Abstract: A method and device for warning a driver of lane departure, wherein a first analyzer is used to detect the vehicle's lane departure based on image data and/or vehicle data and/or driver activity. The driver then receives a warning as a function of the detection by the first analyzer. In addition, a second analyzer for evaluating the driving situation is provided, which either performs the evaluation of the driving situation after the detection and via which the warning is suppressed as a function of the evaluation, or which alternatively performs an evaluation of the driving situation before the detection and via which a detection of lane departure is suppressed as a function of the evaluation.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Axel Gern, Rainer Moebus, Volker Oltmann, Bernd Woltermann, Zoltan Zomotor

Publication number: 20070256885Abstract: A steering system (1) of a vehicle, having a steering wheel (2) which is connected mechanically to the steerable vehicle wheels (11) via a steering column (3). A superimposition actuator (26) which can be actuated independently of the driver by a control device (25) is provided for generating a superimposition variable (U). A superimposition device (6) superimposes a steering wheel variable (?H) which describes the steering actuation of the steering wheel (2) and the superimposition variable (U) to form an output variable. A steering actuator (19) sets a steering angle (?L) at the steerable vehicle wheels (20) as a function of the output variable. An actuating device (27) is provided which is actuated by the control device (25) in order to generate an actuating device torque (MS) which acts on the steering column.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 14, 2005Publication date: November 8, 2007Applicant: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Dieter Ammon, Ingo Dudeck, Axel Gern, Rainer Moebus, Volker Oltmann, Reinhold Schoeb, Bernd Woltermann, Zoltan Zomotor

Publication number: 20070034440Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for preventing unintended acceleration of a vehicle. In the method according to the invention, a first actuation variable which describes actuation (VFB) of a driving operating element which is provided for influencing drive means of the vehicle is determined, the vehicle remaining unaccelerated if an idling condition which is dependent on the first actuation variable which is determined is fulfilled. In addition to the first actuation variable, a second actuation variable which describes actuation (VBB) of a brake operating element which is provided for influencing braking means of the vehicle is determined, the idling condition also being dependent on the second actuation variable which is determined.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2004Publication date: February 15, 2007Applicant: DaimlerChrysler AGInventor: Zoltan Zomotor

Patent number: 6292752Abstract: A device for acquiring data indicative of the path of a lane is provided. The device incorporates a lane detection sensing circuit, an object position sensing circuit that detects at least the distance of an object located in front of the vehicle and its directional angle relative to the direction of vehicle motion, and a sensing circuit for the vehicle's own motion. An estimating device is provided that is supplied with lane recognition measurement data, object position measurement data, and measurement data on the vehicle's own motion. As a function of the vehicle's own motion, the estimating device determines the lane curvature and/or the transverse position of an object ahead of the vehicle relative to the lane by estimation, using a presettable estimation algorithm including a dynamic vehicle motion model. The device preferably includes a Kalman filter for this purpose, and is used, for example, in road vehicles.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1998Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Uwe Franke, Zoltan Zomotor

Patent number: 5871062Abstract: A method and a device for controlling the speed of a motor vehicle and its distance from a vehicle travelling in front are provided. The speed is controlled as long as no vehicle travelling in front is located within a prescribed detection area in front of the vehicle and the distance from the vehicle travelling in front is controlled if a vehicle is located in the detection area. The desired distance for the distance control is set after an instruction for a lane change to the left has been triggered, to a value which is smaller than the value before this instruction was triggered, but is at least as large as a prescribed minimum distance. Alternatively, the actual acceleration of the vehicle is limited to a prescribed maximum value if a vehicle travelling in front moves out of the prescribed detection area in front of the vehicle during the time that an instruction for a lane change to the right is set.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1996Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Jens Desens, Zoltan Zomotor, Stefan Hahn
