Metal packaging with safety cap

Metal packaging including a container (1) sealed by a lid (2), a safety cap (5) sitting atop the lid, characterized in that this packaging is equipped with means (4, 6) for locking the safety cap onto the container. To this end, the cap (5) is provided with flexible peripheral tabs (6) designed to be able to clip onto an end flange (4) formed on the opening of the container (1) and curved outwards. Fastening the safety cap directly onto the wall of the container (1) in this way appreciably improves the firmness of the closure and therefore the safety against accidental opening of the packaging.

Description

[0001] The subject of the present invention is a metal packaging comprising a container sealed by a lid with a safety cap atop the lid.

[0002] French Patent 93/00 099 (2,700,155) describes metal packaging of this type, in which the safety cap is dimensioned so that it can sit atop the lid and be locked onto a support ring for a hooped handle.

[0003] This system provides safety which, in theory, is able to prevent any accidental opening of the metal packaging in the event of an impact and therefore the emptying of its contents (glue, paint, flammable liquid, etc.).

[0004] The object of the invention is to produce a metal packaging which is equipped with a closure device, the safety of which is improved still further with respect to this device of the prior art.

[0005] According to the invention, the packaging is equipped with means for locking the safety cap directly onto the upper edge of the wall of the container.

[0006] Thus, this cap is no longer snap-fastened onto a part that is attached to the wall of the container, but is snap-fastened directly onto the wall itself, thus improving the robustness and safety of the closure.

[0007] According to one embodiment of the invention, the safety cap is provided with flexible peripheral tabs designed to be able to be clipped onto an end flange formed on the opening of the container and curved outward.

[0008] As the container is made of metal, the firmness with which the safety cap is elastically snap-fastened onto its flange is all the better.

[0009] Other particular features and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the description which will follow, given with reference to the appended drawing which illustrates one embodiment thereof by way of non-limiting example.

[0010] The single FIGURE is a partial view in elevation, more or less to scale, of one embodiment of the metal packaging according to the invention.

[0011] The metal packaging depicted in the drawings includes a container 1 with a cylindrical metal wall, capable of holding various liquids, and a metal lid 2.

[0012] The latter comprises a peripheral flange 3 of concave profile, the concave side of which faces towards the bottom of the container. This flange 3 rests against an end flange 4 formed on the periphery of the opening of the container 1 and which is curved outwards with its concave side facing towards the bottom of the container 1.

[0013] The packaging also includes a safety cap 5 made of plastic dimensioned to be able to sit over the lid 2 and which is equipped with a series of flexible peripheral tabs. These tabs 6 are each equipped with an inner nib 7, designed to catch on the end flange 4 of the container 1 through the elastic snap-fastening (clipping) of the tabs 6.

[0014] The safety cap 5 is thus directly snap-fastened onto the upper edge 4 of the wall 1 of the container.

[0015] The wall of the container 1 consists of an annular part 19, of which the outer edge is rolled over and caught on the upper end of the wall 1, and of which the inner edge, of a smaller diameter than the wall 1, consists of the end flange 4.

[0016] The safety cap 5 is supplemented by a lateral tab 21 that can be grasped in the hand and which is arranged with a U-shaped profile to allow a can stacked on top of it to be nested inside it.

[0017] Snap-fitting the cap 5 directly onto the flange 4 of the wall 1 via the flexible tabs 6 of this cap greatly improves the safety of the closure of the packaging.

[0018] The safety cap can also, as an alternative, be shaped to exhibit a profile that allows stacking.

Claims

1. Metal packaging including a container (1) sealed by a lid (2), a safety cap (5) sitting atop the lid, characterized in that this packaging is equipped with means (4, 6) for locking the safety cap directly onto the upper edge (4) of the wall (1) of the container.

2. Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that the safety cap (5) is provided with flexible peripheral tabs (6) designed to be able to clip onto an end flange (4) formed on the opening of the container (1) and curved outwards.
