Description

[0001] The invention relates to a device for unwinding or applying adhesive tape, especially double-sided adhesive tape, which is to be unwound from a roll of adhesive tape.

[0002] A plurality of unwinding aids is known from the state of the art for unwinding adhesive tapes. For this purpose, a roll of adhesive tape is usually taken up completely in a housing, in which it is guided over one or several studs to an opening of the housing, from which the adhesive tape can be pulled and unwound for processing. These unwinding aids generally are structurally expensive and therefore frequently too expensive for the user/consumer for a possibly only single use, so that many do without using an unwinding aid and apply the adhesive tape “freehandedly” directly from an adhesive tape roll to a substrate. However, especially when applying very wide adhesive tapes, as used, for example, for laying wall-to-wall carpeting, when gluing base plates, which must, moreover, be applied accurately over a greater distance, it is almost impossible to bring this about without an unwinding aid.

[0003] It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a device, which can be produced particularly easily and therefore inexpensively, for applying or unwinding adhesive tape, especially double-sided adhesive tape, rapidly and precisely on a substrate.

[0004] This objective is accomplished pursuant to the invention with a device for unwinding or applying adhesive tape, which is to be unwound from a roll of adhesive tape, with the distinguishing features of claim 1. Advantageous developments of the inventive object are given in the dependent claims 2 to 6.

[0005] Pursuant to the invention, the device for unwinding or applying adhesive tape, which is to be unwound from a roll of adhesive tape, consists of a discoid unwinding body and of a roll-accommodating device, mounted thereon. The device thus consists only of two parts, which can be constructed integrally connected with one another or also separately from one another. This two-part construction of the device can be produced very simply and easily and therefore also inexpensively. The discoid unwinding body and the roll-accommodating device have a common central axis, about which the roll of adhesive tape roll rotates during the unwinding process. Moreover, the inventive, discoid unwinding body has a supporting surface, on which the roll of adhesive tape is seated fully laterally. Moreover, the supporting surface not only supports the roll of adhesive tape lying on it, but also offers protection against contamination by dust or other contaminants, which easily adhere to the sides of the rolls of adhesive tape. The roll-accommodating device protrudes from the supporting surface of the unwinding body. The external diameter of the roll-accommodating device is slightly less than the internal diameter of the roll of adhesive tape, which is to be accommodate thereon, and preferably by 1 or 2 mm, so that the roll of adhesive tape can be slipped easily onto the external diameter of the roll-accommodating device. In this way, a roll of adhesive tape can be placed easily on the roll-accommodating device and held by it thereon and unwound.

[0006] Pursuant to an advantageous further development of the inventive device, the supporting surface of the discoid unwinding body is constructed as a sliding surface. It is particularly advantageous if the whole of the supporting surface is constructed as a sliding surface. This permits the adhesive tape, resting fully on the supporting surface, to be unwound easily from the device with little friction.

[0007] According to a further preferred embodiment, a silicone paper, which is provided on the support surface, is particularly suitable as lubricant and release agent. The silicone paper serves as a release layer between the sides of the rolls of adhesive tape and the unwinding body, so that these cannot adhere to one another and the adhesive tape can be unwound easily from the device.

[0008] In a further, preferred embodiment, the roll-accommodating device has a peripheral surface, which accommodates the roll of adhesive tape and protrudes from the supporting surface preferably at a height of 2 cm.

[0009] Preferably, the discoid unwinding body is circular and has a diameter ranging from 10 to 30 cm, depending on the size of the roll of adhesive tape. A diameter of 19.5 cm is particularly advantageous. An also circular recess is provided in the center of the discoid unwinding body and has a diameter ranging from 30 to 90 mm. The diameter of the recess corresponds to the diameter of the roll-accommodating device, which is disposed in the recess. The roll-accommodating device can be provide as a ring in the recess or also disposed therein as a thick disk, so that the whole of the recess is filled thereby. The thickness of the discoid unwinding body preferably ranges from 0.5 to 15 mm. In particular, the discoid unwinding body is about 5 mm thick. Instead of a discoid unwinding body, the roll-accommodating device may have two or preferably three elevations, which are at a uniform distance from the center of rotation and, in the interior of the recess, form a holding device for the roll of adhesive tape in the form of a two-point or three-point mounting. If the device, in a preferred manner, consists of cardboard, the elevations can be produced, for example, by bending up the cardboard when die-cutting it. They may, however, also be glued on, constructed as plastic or metal knots and fastened to the cardboard by known procedures.

[0010] Since the thickness of the unwinding body determines the distance of the adhesive tape strip from a wall, on which the adhesive tape is to be applied and which is perpendicular to a substrate, the device, during the application of the adhesive tape, being placed with its surface, opposite and parallel to the supporting surface, on the substrate, a small thickness of the unwinding body is advantageous, if the adhesive tape is to be applied close to the substrate at the wall perpendicular to it. A greater distance from the substrate at the wall may also be desirable, if, for example, wider base plates are to be mounted on a wall. An unwinding body with a greater thickness is to be used for this purpose.

[0011] It is, furthermore, of advantage if the discoid basic body is produced from a hard and solid material, such as a metal or plastic. Solid cardboard is a particularly advantageous material, since it is very advantageously priced and thus lowers the manufacturing cost enormously. In the case of an advantageously priced manufacturing process of the device from cardboard, it is therefore possible to add the inventive device for unwinding and applying the adhesive tape at the same time to each adhesive tape roll, so that a compact unit is obtained. This is of advantage particularly for the consumer in that, whenever he purchases an adhesive tape roll, he also at the same time, has the corresponding unwinding device in hand.

[0012] The inventive device for unwinding and applying adhesive tape, unwound from a roll of adhesive tape by means of a preferred embodiment, is explained in greater detail in the following description and shown in the drawings in which

[0013] FIG. 1 shows a cross section through the inventive device for unwinding and applying adhesive tape, which is unwound from a roll of adhesive tape and

[0014] FIG. 2 shows the device of FIG. 1 for unwinding and applying adhesive tape, which is unwound from a roll of adhesive tape, in a plan view

[0015] FIG. 1 shows a cross section through the inventive device for unwinding and applying an adhesive tape, which is unwound from a roll of adhesive tape. In the center of the discoid unwinding body 1, there is a recess 6, in which a device 2 for accommodating the roll is disposed. The device 2 for accommodating the roll protrudes perpendicularly to the discoid unwinding body 1 from this unwinding body 1 or from a supporting surface 3 of the discoid unwinding body 1. A roll 5 of adhesive tape is indicated by the broken line and the reference symbol 5. It is placed on the device 2, for accommodating the roll, guided slightly about a peripheral surface 4 of the unwinding device 2 and rests with its underside on the supporting surface 3 of the discoid unwinding body 1. A lower section of the peripheral surface 4 of the unwinding device 2 is connected with the discoid unwinding body 1. For applying adhesive tape on a wall, the unwinding body is placed with its underside 8 on a substrate or floor and, at the same time, placed with a peripheral surface 7 of the discoid unwinding body 1 against the wall, which is perpendicular to the substrate.

[0016] FIG. 2 shows a plan view of the inventive device of FIG. 1 for unwinding and applying adhesive tape, which is to be unwound from a roll of adhesive tape. The roll-accommodating device 2 is disposed in the recess 6 in the center of the discoid unwinding body 1. An adhesive tape 5, lying laterally on the discoid unwinding body, is indicated by the broken line.
