Hand grenade detonator

Hand grenade detonator with a detonating cap, a delay charge, a primary charge and a plastics safety disc that prevents a direct breakthrough of the detonating flame of the detonating cap (4) onto the primary charge (2) when the delay charge is missing, wherein the safety disc (5) is formed by a one-piece, pot-shaped plastics element (8), that includes a supporting ring and thin layer (7) covering over the central free space (6) thereof.

Description

[0001] The invention relates to a hand grenade detonator with a detonating cap, a delay charge, a primary charge and a plastics safety disc that prevents a direct breakthrough of the detonating flame of the detonating cap onto the primary charge when the delay charge is missing.

[0002] It is known to insert a tin plated lead foil between the delay charge and the primary charge as a safety disc, which is fixed in position by means of a metallic ring. A safety disc is further known from DE 26 48 331 B1 that comprises two portions, namely a plastics foil and an annular supporting or retaining element for said foil, wherein the foil is connected to the supporting element by being flattened down with the housing. The laborious and complex manipulation of the thin foils has proved disadvantageous with this known prior art.

[0003] The object of the invention is thus to remove this disadvantage, and proposes that the safety disc is formed by means of a one-piece, pot shaped plastics element that includes a supporting ring and a thin layer covering its central free space. In a preferred embodiment, the safety disc is composed of a polyamide, but other temperature-resistant plastics can also be used.

[0004] The invention will hereinafter be described in more detail with reference to the Figures of the attached drawing, without being limited thereto. There is shown, in:

[0005] FIG. 1 a safety disc according to the prior art,

[0006] FIG. 2 a hand grenade detonator in partial longitudinal section, and

[0007] FIG. 3 a safety disc according to the invention.

[0008] A hand grenade detonator 1 is provided with a primary charge 2, a delay assembly 3, and a detonating cap 4 that can be struck by a striker that is not shown. As a delay assembly 3 missing due to an error in production would lead to direct detonation of the primary charge by the detonating flame of the detonating cap, a safety disc 5 is inserted between the delay assembly and the primary charge 2 that can be destroyed by the burning delay assembly 3 but not by the detonating flame. FIG. 1 shows a conventional safety disc 5 that is provided with a metallic ring 51 and a tin-plated lead foil 52, which covers over the annular aperture 61. The safety disc according to the invention of FIG. 3 is a one-piece, pot-shaped plastics element 8 in that with the exception of a thin layer 7, a central free space 6 is formed. The thin plastics layer 7 is sufficient to prevent the breakthrough of the detonating cap flame. The plastics element 8 is composed of a polyamide or another temperature-resistant plastics material.

Claims

1. Hand grenade detonator with a detonating cap, a delay charge, a primary charge and a plastics safety disc that prevents a direct breakthrough of the detonating flame of the detonating cap (4) onto the primary charge (2) when the delay charge is missing, characterised in that the safety disc (5) is formed by a one-piece, pot-shaped plastic element (8) that includes a supporting ring and a thin layer (7) covering over the central free space (6) thereof.

2. Hand grenade detonator according to claim 1, characterised in that the safety disc (5) is composed of a polyamide.
