BACKGROUND

[0003] This invention relates to closures for shirt collars in particular, and to shirts in general.

[0004] 2. Description of Prior Art

[0005] Shirts commonly come with a collar button followed below by a second button that is usually about three inches below the collar button. Shirts are commonly worn either fully buttoned, in the formal mode, or with the collar button undone, in the casual mode.

[0006] When a shirt is worn in the casual mode with a jacket, and the shirt collar is kept inside the jacket collar, both the shirt collar and the shirt area immediately below the collar inevitably assume a messy, out-of-control appearance. The two sides of the collar become increasingly unbalanced as the body moves, and the shirt area immediately below the collar tends to sag. The same situation occurs when the shirt is worn by itself.

[0007] When a shirt is worn underneath a V-neck sweater in the casual mode, with the points of the collar kept underneath the sweater, the collar once again quickly assumes a messy, out-of-control appearance. Its two points become unbalanced, and one of them inevitably slips out to lie on top of the sweater while the other stays hidden beneath.

[0008] When a shirt is worn underneath a crew neck sweater in the casual mode, with the points of the collar kept underneath the sweater, the sides of the collar will be visible at first, but will gradually disappear from view either completely or partially beneath the sweater as the body moves.

SUMMARY

[0009] My invention creates an additional shirt collar closure situated about one inch below the customary collar button, consisting preferably of small hook-and-loop fastener of any desired color or shape, or employing an additional button. When the collar button is left undone and this new closure is engaged, a new casual mode of dress is created that is visually pleasing, comfortable to wear, and free of the above-cited problems.

OBJECTS AND ADVANTAGES Accordingly, several objects and advantages of the closure described above are:

[0010] (a) a new manner of casual dress becomes possible;

[0011] (b) a new neatness in the casual mode becomes possible;

[0012] (c) the collar in the new casual mode fits loosely and comfortably around the neck;

[0013] (d) the front of the shirt consistently maintains a smooth, stylish appearance when the shirt is worn alone or with a jacket, and the points of the collar maintain a consistent and appealing relationship to one another;

[0014] (e) a tie is no longer required to create a dressed image,

[0015] (f) when the shirt is worn underneath a V-neck sweater, the points of the collar stay underneath the swear rather than slipping out to produce a messy, uncontrolled image, the shirt front maintains a smooth, stylish appearance, and the two sides of the collar maintain a consistent and appealing relationship to one another;

[0016] (g) when the shirt is worn underneath a crew-neck sweater, the sides of the collar remain in view rather than gradually disappearing beneath the sweater as the body moves;

[0017] (h) a new and visually pleasing casual image results.

Claims

1. A shirt collar closure situated about one inch below the customary collar button closure,

whereby a new casual mode of dress becomes possible, and

whereby the front of the shirt consistently maintains a smooth, stylish appearance when the shirt is worn alone or with a jacket, and

whereby the points of the collar maintain a consistent and appealing relationship to one another when the shirt is worn alone or with a jacket, and

whereby the points of the collar of a shirt worn underneath a V-neck sweater remain neatly in place underneath the sweater continuously throughout the wearing of the shirt and sweater, and

whereby the shirt front maintains a smooth, stylish appearance when the shirt is worn underneath a V-neck sweater, and

whereby the two sides of the collar maintain a consistent and appealing relationship to one another when the shirt is worn underneath a V-neck sweater, and

whereby the side elements of the collar of a shirt worn underneath a crew neck sweater remain neatly in view continuously throughout the wearing of the shirt and sweater.
