Description

[0001] The Revolving Kitchen Cabinet, as shown, takes up only 9 inches of counter space, bringing kitchen items together into one convenient compartment where no item is more than 12 inches from reach. However, this Cabinet can be built in any size to fit anywhere.

[0002] The Revolving Kitchen Cabinet is mounted on a revolving ballbearing base, which allows easy access for any user.

CONSTRUCTION & ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

[0003] Have all materials on hand and cut to size according to Plan before your begin your project.

[0004] Cut inside 45 degree angle for door corners and mark them.

[0005] Finish all Router work on inside and outside door edges (this design can be done to your choice).

[0006] Cabinet Doors:

[0007] With ⅛″ Router Slot Cutter in Router, set cutter ¼″ from router table

[0008] Cut slots ⅜″ deep on inside of door framing one piece at a time for glass (first use a piece of scrap material to cut slot to see if glass fits into slot)

[0009] Assemble door by installing glass.

[0010] Glue and brad nail all corners

[0011] Lay door aside and finish all doors in this manner.

[0012] Assembling Bottom Shelves and Panels:

[0013] Drill a ¾″ dowel hole in center of bottom of ¾″ 8-sided Polygon bottom.

[0014] Lay ¾″ 8 sided Polygon bottom on flat level surface

[0015] Attach one panel to Polygon bottom with glue and nails (finishing nails are used for the entire project—inset all nails).

[0016] On opposite side attach another panel

[0017] Tack a strip across top of panels to hold upright

[0018] Assemble the other two panels in this same manner

[0019] Measure up 9 inches and install the bottom ½″ shelf with glue and nails. Be sure your shelf is level!

[0020] Install the other shelf and Cabinet top in same manner

[0021] Allow glue to dry for 24 hours . . .

[0022] The two shelves have a 9″ high spacing, leaving a 12″ spacing between top shelf and top of cabinet.

[0023] Installing Doors:

[0024] Lay cabinet on side and hand plane edges of panels flat to within ⅛″ from top polygon, bottom polygon and each shelf. Check door for fit.

[0025] Lay hinges on door and mark.

[0026] Outside of door edge will have to be grooved out to make hinges fit properly.

[0027] Hinges must be indented to fit flat with inside surface of door.

[0028] Assembling Cabinet Base:

[0029] Glue and nail 2″×7″ circles as you stack them (Be sure the circles are perfectly aligned and level) attach glue and nail (screws can be used here if desired)

[0030] Use a 9½″×¾″ circle base for bottom (Be sure bottom is centered)

[0031] Stand up and drill ¾″ round and 2″ deep hole in top for dowel pin (This is going to help you center the cabinet when you mount it to the base).

[0032] Let glue dry for at least 8 hours.

[0033] Round edges of Red Oak ¾″×1⅜ strips on router and attach to stacked circles with glue and nail (Inset nails)

[0034] Drill ¾″ dowel hole in center of ball bearing base and center this with ¾″ dowel

[0035] Glue and screw to top of base.

[0036] Enclosed 12′ Ball Bearing Component:

[0037] There will be a ½″ hole in ball-bearing component.

[0038] Place on base top and align holes and mark the base

[0039] Drill ¾″ hole in base top (Do not attach ball bearing component to base top yet) On Drill Press, through ½″ hole, move top of ball-bearing component around and using a {fraction (3/16)}″ drill bit, drill holes about 3″ apart around ball-bearing component (These holes are for securing cabinet base to the cabinet).

[0040] IMPORTANT: Shavings from drill will get into ball-bearings. Before attaching ball-bearing component to the base, throughly wash out, with high pressure hose, all shavings from ball-bearing component then blow dry and oil with a light oil.

[0041] Attach ball-bearing component to cabinet base with hexagon bolts and washers on each side

[0042] Tighten ball-bearing component to base.

[0043] Attaching Base to Cabinet:

[0044] Set cabinet, with top down

[0045] Insert ¾″ dowel pin in cabinet base and into bottom of cabinet to center

[0046] With Phillips-head screwdriver, using ⅝″ phillips head screws (BE SURE TO USE A SCREWDRIVER THAT HOLDS THE SCREW IN PLACE . . . Because, if you drop screw in ballbearing component you must detach from cabinet to get screw out), align holes and insert screws to attach to bottom of base. You'll need to move base around to properly align.

[0047] Finishing:

[0048] Cut ⅛″×½″ and ⅛″×¾″ Red Oak strips for edges of exposed plywood and glue to edges.

[0049] Sand all finishes using 200 grit sandpaper and then 400 grit to give it a real smooth finish.

[0050] Stain with Golden Pecan Mini-wax Stain (If too red use another type). Be sure to test stain on scrap material before applying to cabinet.

[0051] Mount Revolving Cabinet to Counter Top:

[0052] Secure under-counter 13″ circle of ¾″ plywood with 4-1″×4″ Hexagon Screw Bolts & Large Washers.

1. What I, Fred K. Hyde, claim as my invention is the Revolving Kitchen Cabinet, which was designed & built by me, Fred K. Hyde. I began this work in late 2001 and completed its' construction & installation in my home at 5036 Jeannette Drive, Metairie, La. 70003, on/or around Feb. 22, 2002.

The Utility Patent, which I seek, is to protect my idea for the design & construction, in any size, of the Revolving Kitchen Cabinet as demonstrated in the following application, drawings & photos submitted.
