A method for making a hand tool includes step of forging to form a shank of the tool with an H-shaped cross section, step 2 of a secondary forging to precisely form the shape as desired, step 3 of final fishing to grind a surface of the tool, and step 4 of completing the tool.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a method for making a tool with H-shaped cross section and includes a rough forging to form the profile of the tool, a secondary forging to define the details of the tool, and a final process for fine finishing.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] A conventional hand tool with an H-shaped shank is shown in FIG. 1 and generally includes a recessed area 10 and two ridges 11 on two sides of the shank. The shank is made by way of rolling as shown in FIG. 2. The two rollers simply roll along a pre-determined line to form the two ridges, however, the deformation of the material is difficult to control so that the thickness of the ridges could be vary so that the quality of the product is not satisfied. As shown in FIG. 3, the shank as shown has a tapered side profile and this is more difficult to control by the conventional rolling method.

[0003] The present invention intends to provide a method for making a shank of a hand tool that includes an H-shaped cross section by two times of forging and one time of finishing.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for making a hand tool wherein the method comprises the following steps:

[0005] step 1: rough forging to form a shank of the tool with an H-shaped cross section;

[0006] step 2: a secondary forging to precisely form the shape as desired;

[0007] step 3: final fishing to grind a surface of the tool, and

[0008] step 4: completing the tool.

[0009] The primary object of the present invention is to provide a method that forges a hand tool to have a desired shape and surface quality.

[0010] The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0017] Referring to FIGS. 4 and 5, the method for making a hand tool of the present invention comprises the following steps:

[0018] step 1: rough forging to form a shank of the tool with an H-shaped cross section which includes a recessed area 22 and ridges 21 extending from two sides of the recessed area 22;

[0019] step 2: a secondary forging to precisely form the shape as desired wherein the temperature used in step 2 is lower than that used in step 1;

[0020] step 3: final fishing to grind a surface of the tool, and

[0021] step 4: completing the tool.

[0022] The surface quality can be controlled to a desired level and the shape is easily to be controlled by way of forging. The structural connection of the crystals of the metal is firmly bounded so that the whole tool may bear high stress or force during use.

[0023] Referring to FIG. 6, a step for bending at the open-ended wrench can be added after step 3 to make the axis of the open-ended wrench has an angle “a” relative to the plane where the shank of the tool is located.

[0024] While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims

1. A method for making a hand tool, comprising:

step 1: rough forging to form a shank of the tool with an H-shaped cross section;
step 2: a secondary forging to precisely form the shape as desired;
step 3: final fishing to grind a surface of the tool, and
step 4: completing the tool.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein a temperature used in step 2 is lower than that used in step 1.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a step for bending the tool.
