Firewood receptacle

A firewood receptacle for mounting in an aperture formed in an outer wall of a structure such as a house or cabin, includes a frame for fitting in the aperture, an outside closure member having a bottom edge, an outside stop affixed to the outside closure member, an inside closure member having a bottom edge, an inside stop affixed to the inside closure member and a bottom member. The outside closure member, the inside closure member and the bottom member form a container which is in a generally truncated V-shape in cross-section so that the container can be pivoted from outside the structure to inside the structure. Firewood can be placed in the container from outside the structure when the container is pivoted outside and firewood can be removed from the container inside the structure when the container is pivoted inside. In one form, the outside closure member is substantially rectangular, the inside closure member is substantially rectangular and the bottom member is substantially rectangular. The outside closure member and the inside closure member are substantially the same size, and the container further includes two end members. A substantially trapezoidal first end member attaches to a first end of the outside closure member, to a first end of the inside closure member and to a first end of the bottom member and a substantially trapezoidal second end member attaches to a second end of the outside closure member opposite the first end, to a second end of the inside closure member opposite the first end and to a second end of the bottom member opposite the first end. In a preferred form, the outside stop is integral to the outside closure member by making the closure member larger than the frame in a least one dimension, thus forming the stop. Similarly, the inside stop is integral to the inside closure member by making the closure member larger than the frame in a least one dimension, thus forming the stop.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates generally to firewood receptacles, and in particular, to firewood receptacles which allow firewood to be transferred from outside of a house or other structure to inside of the house or other structure.

[0003] 2. Description of Related Art

[0004] U.S. Pat. No. 496,243 (Zenner) shows an oscillating box garbage receptacle for use in passing garbage through a fence or shed or other thin walled structure. The receptacle is designed to be easily removable with a bail for carrying.

[0005] U.S. Pat. No. 2,034,916 shows a delivery receptacle mounted in a wall with an outer door and an inner door. Inside the inner door is a fold-down delivery platform to lower whatever has been left inside.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] A firewood receptacle for mounting in an aperture formed in an outer wall of a structure such as a house or cabin, includes a frame for fitting in the aperture, an outside closure member having a bottom edge, an outside stop affixed to the outside closure member wherein the outside stop prevents the outside closure member from moving to the inside of the outer wall of the structure, an inside closure member having a bottom edge, an inside stop affixed to the inside closure member wherein the inside stop prevents the inside closure member from moving to the outside of the outer wall of the structure, and a bottom member attached to the bottom edge of the outside closure member and attached to the bottom edge of the inside closure member. The outside closure member, the inside closure member and the bottom member form a container which is in a generally truncated V-shape in cross-section so that the container can be pivoted from outside the structure to inside the structure. Firewood can be placed in the container from outside the structure when the container is pivoted outside and firewood can be removed from the container inside the structure when the container is pivoted inside.

[0007] In a preferred form, the outside closure member is substantially rectangular, the inside closure member is substantially rectangular and the bottom member is substantially rectangular. The outside closure member and the inside closure member are substantially the same size, and the container further includes two end members. A substantially trapezoidal first end member attaches to a first end of the outside closure member, to a first end of the inside closure member and to a first end of the bottom member and a substantially trapezoidal second end member attaches to a second end of the outside closure member opposite the first end, to a second end of the inside closure member opposite the first end and to a second end of the bottom member opposite the first end.

[0008] In a preferred form, the outside stop is integral to the outside closure member by making the closure member larger than the frame in a least one dimension, thus forming the stop. Similarly, the inside stop is integral to the inside closure member by making the closure member larger than the frame in a least one dimension, thus forming the stop.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0017] Referring now to the drawing, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 3, a firewood receptacle for mounting in an aperture 12 formed in an outer wall 14 of a structure 16 such as a house or cabin is referred to generally by reference numeral 10. Receptacle 10 includes a frame 18 for fitting in the aperture, an outside closure member 20 having a bottom edge 22, and an outside stop 24 affixed to the outside closure member. Outside stop 24 prevents outside closure member 20 from moving to the inside of the outer wall 14 of the structure. An inside closure member 26 has a bottom edge 28, and an inside stop 30 affixed to the inside closure member. Inside stop 30 prevents inside closure member 26 from moving to the outside of the outer wall 14 of the structure. Referring also to FIGS. 4 through 7, a bottom member 32 attaches to bottom edge 22 of the outside closure member and attaches to bottom edge 28 of the inside closure member. The outside closure member, the inside closure member and the bottom member form a container which is in a generally truncated V-shape in cross-section so that the container can be pivoted from outside the structure to inside the structure on some pivot 34. Firewood 36 can be placed in the container from outside the structure when the container is pivoted outside and firewood can be removed from the container inside the structure when the container is pivoted inside.

[0018] In a preferred form, the outside closure member is substantially rectangular, the inside closure member is substantially rectangular and the bottom member is substantially rectangular. The outside closure member and the inside closure member are substantially the same size, and the container further includes two end members. A substantially trapezoidal first end member 38 attaches to a first end of the outside closure member, to a first end of the inside closure member and to a first end of the bottom member and a substantially trapezoidal second end member 40 attaches to a second end of the outside closure member opposite the first end, to a second end of the inside closure member opposite the first end and to a second end of the bottom member opposite the first end.

[0019] In a preferred form, the outside stop is integral to the outside closure member by making the closure member larger than the frame in a least one dimension, thus forming the stop. Similarly, the inside stop is integral to the inside closure member by making the closure member larger than the frame in a least one dimension, thus forming the stop.

[0020] From the foregoing it will be seen that this invention is well adapted to attain all of the ends and objectives hereinabove set forth, together with other advantages which are inherent to the apparatus.

[0021] It will be understood that certain features and subcombinations are of utility and may be employed without reference to other features and subcombinations. This is contemplated by and is within the scope of the claims.

[0022] As many possible embodiments may be made of the invention without departing from the scope thereof, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the figures of the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Claims

1. A firewood receptacle for mounting in an aperture formed in an outer wall of a structure, comprising in combination:

a frame for fitting in the aperture;
an outside closure member which is larger than the frame in a least one dimension, having a bottom edge;
an inside closure member which is larger than the frame in at least one dimension, having a bottom edge; and
a bottom member attached to the bottom edge of the outside closure member and attached to the bottom edge of the inside closure member, wherein the outside closure member, the inside closure member and the bottom member form a container which is in a generally truncated V-shape in cross-section wherein firewood can be placed in the container from outside the structure and firewood can be removed from the container inside the structure.

2. A firewood receptacle according to claim 1, wherein the outside closure member is substantially rectangular, the inside closure member is substantially rectangular and the bottom member is substantially rectangular.

3. A firewood receptacle according to claim 2, wherein the outside closure member and the inside closure member are substantially the same size, further including:

a substantially trapezoidal first end member attached to a first end of the outside closure member, to a first end of the inside closure member and to a first end of the bottom member; and
a substantially trapezoidal second end member attached to a second end of the outside closure member opposite the first end, to a second end of the inside closure member opposite the first end and to a second end of the bottom member opposite the first end.

4. A firewood receptacle for mounting in an aperture formed in an outer wall of a structure, comprising in combination:

a frame for fitting in the aperture;
an outside closure member having a bottom edge;
an outside stop affixed to the outside closure member wherein the outside stop prevents the outside closure member from moving to the inside of the outer wall of the structure;
an inside closure member having a bottom edge;
an inside stop affixed to the inside closure member wherein the inside stop prevents the inside closure member from moving to the outside of the outer wall of the structure; and
a bottom member attached to the bottom edge of the outside closure member and attached to the bottom edge of the inside closure member, wherein the outside closure member, the inside closure member and the bottom member form a container which is in a generally truncated V-shape in cross-section wherein firewood can be placed in the container from outside the structure and firewood can be removed from the container inside the structure.

5. A firewood receptacle according to claim 4, wherein the outside closure member is substantially rectangular, the inside closure member is substantially rectangular and the bottom member is substantially rectangular.

6. A firewood receptacle according to claim 5, wherein the outside closure member and the inside closure member are substantially the same size, further including:

a substantially trapezoidal first end member attached to a first end of the outside closure member, to a first end of the inside closure member and to a first end of the bottom member; and
a substantially trapezoidal second end member attached to a second end of the outside closure member opposite the first end, to a second end of the inside closure member opposite the first end and to a second end of the bottom member opposite the first end.
