Igniting agents

The invention relates to igniting agents, which contain soluble, preferably water-soluble igniting substances.

Description

[0001] The subject matter of the present invention is igniting agents, a method of producing same, and their use.

[0002] In general, only water-insoluble igniting substances with added binding agents find application in the wet charge-drop technique for electrical igniters, as used in automobile security systems, for example. Possible disadvantages of these methods include dissociation, inaccurate dosages, and irreversible incorporation of cavities as the result of bubbles of air or water vapor which cannot escape from the highly viscous suspension during drying. The air bubbles may arise due to the force of the continuous stirring of the suspension which is performed to avoid dissociation.

[0003] The object of the present invention is to provide igniting agents which do not have the disadvantages of the igniting agents known from the prior art.

[0004] This object is achieved by the use of soluble, preferably water-soluble, igniting substances, optionally in combination with suitable binding agents. The use of such igniting substances results in low-viscosity, homogeneous solutions, thus eliminating the risk of unintended dissociation. There is no continuous stirring, thereby preventing the danger of incorporation of air. The inventive use of soluble, preferably water-soluble, igniting substances in combination with suitable binding agents allows low-viscosity solutions to be produced in the desired concentration. Highly accurate, simple, and reliable dosing using commercially available dosing systems is possible by the use of such solutions. Water-soluble salts of nitrotetrazole, azotetrazole, and nitroaminotetrazole, such as cesium nitrotetrazolate, cesium azotetrazolate, and potassium nitroaminotetrazolate are suitable as igniting substances. As binding agents according to the invention, dispersed or water-soluble binding agents such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers (adhesin, for example) or water-soluble binding agents such as gum arabic, polyvinyl alcohols, cellulose derivatives, or the like, are suitable.

[0005] Organically soluble, explosive polymers such as polynitrophenylene, nitropolyether, or poly-1(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)-5-5′-ditetrazole, with or without the addition of binding agents, may also be used according to the invention.

[0006] For inspection of the igniting agent, soluble dyes, fluorescence indicators, or X-ray tracers such as sodium tungstate may be admixed as additives.

[0007] The mixtures according to the invention are generally suited for use as igniting agents. These mixtures are particularly suitable as igniting agents for igniters, such as those based on metallic layer elements and glow wires, and as high tension igniters with the addition of conductive, soluble substances such as colloidal silver or colloidal graphite. The mixtures according to the invention may be applied in the form of an ignition layer, for example on metallic layer element igniters, glow wire igniters, or high tension igniters.

EXAMPLE

[0008] 1 g cesium nitrotetrazolate and 100 mg adhesin were placed in 4 mL water. Approximately 50 mg of this homogeneous solution was applied to the ignition element. After drying the solution at 45° C. the igniter was operational.

Claims

1. Igniting agent, characterized in that said igniting agent contains soluble, preferably water-soluble, igniting substances.

2. Igniting agent according to claim 1, characterized in that the soluble igniting substance is selected from salts of nitrotetrazole, azotetrazole, and/or nitroaminotetrazole, or mixtures of these salts.

3. Igniting agent according to claim 1, characterized in that the soluble igniting substance is selected from cesium nitrotetrazolate, cesium azotetrazolate, potassium nitroaminotetrazolate, or mixtures of these salts.

4. Igniting agent according to one or more of claims 1 through 3, characterized in that the soluble igniting substance is selected from organically soluble, explosive polymers or mixtures of these polymers.

5. Igniting agent according to one or more of claims 1 through 4, characterized in that the soluble igniting substance is selected from polynitrophenylene, nitropolyether, poly-1(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)-5-5′-ditetrazole, or mixtures of these substances.

6. Igniting agent according to one or more of claims 1 through 5, characterized in that suitable binding agents are added to the soluble igniting substance.

7. Igniting agent according to one or more of claims 1 through 6, characterized in that the binding agent is selected from ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, gum arabic, polyvinyl alcohols, cellulose derivatives, or mixtures of these binding agents.

8. Igniting agent according to one or more of claims 1 through 7, characterized in that said igniting agent contains adhesin as binding agent.

9. Igniting agent according to one or more of claims 1 through 8, characterized in that said igniting agent contains added soluble dyes, fluorescence indicators, or X-ray tracers such as sodium tungstate.

10. Method of producing an igniting agent according to one of more of claims 1 through 9, characterized in that the soluble igniting substances are dissolved in a suitable solvent, and suitable binding agents are optionally added.

11. Use of an igniting agent according to one or more of claims 1 through 9 as an ignition layer on metallic layer element igniters, glow wire igniters, or high tension igniters.
