Curtain rod bracket system

Abstract

A curtain rod bracket system for allowing a user to hang curtain rods of different sizes. The curtain rod bracket system includes a plurality of bracket members each comprising a plurality of hanger portions. The bracket members are designed for being oppositely coupled to a wall adjacent the window. The hanger portions of the bracket members are designed for engaging one of the curtain rods whereby the associated one of the curtain rods extends across the window to allow the curtains to be positioned over the window.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to curtain rod brackets and more particularly pertains to a new curtain rod bracket system for allowing a user to hang curtain rods of different sizes.

[0003] 2. Description of the Prior Art

[0004] The use of curtain rod brackets is known in the prior art. U.S. Pat. No. 2,144,242 describes a device for allowing multiple curtain rods, of the same size, to be mounted around a window. Another type of curtain rod bracket is U.S. Pat. No. 4,322,050 having a support brackets that is vertically adjustable to adjust the height at which the curtain rod is mounted. U.S. Pat. No. 4,283,035 has a pair of elongate elements with one of the elements being slidable with respect to other one of the elements with each of the elements capable engaging curtain rods to position the curtain rods in a parallel to one another.

[0005] While these devices fulfill their respective, particular objectives and requirements, the need remains for a system that has certain improved features allowing for different sized curtain rods to be mounted on the same brackets.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The present invention meets the needs presented above by providing a first hanger portion and a second hanger portion on each of the bracket members whereby the first hanger portion engages curtain rods of a first size with the first hanger portion and the second hanger portion be used together to accommodate a curtain rod of a second size greater then the first size.

[0007] Still yet another object of the present invention is to provide a new curtain rod bracket system that allows a user to switch sizes of curtain rods being used without the need to remove and replace the bracket members.

[0008] Even still another object of the present invention is to provide a new curtain rod bracket system that allows different sized curtain rods be used in conjunction, such as to support a curtain and a valance for the window.

[0009] To this end, the present invention generally comprises a plurality of bracket members each comprised of a plurality of hanger portions. The bracket members are designed for being oppositely coupled to a wall adjacent the window. The hanger portions of the bracket members are designed for engaging one of the curtain rods whereby the associated one of the curtain rods extends across the window to allow the curtains to be positioned over the window.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0018] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new curtain rod bracket system embodying the principles and concepts of the present invention and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0019] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the curtain rod bracket system 10 generally comprises a plurality of bracket members 11 each comprising a plurality of hanger portions 12. The bracket members 11 are designed for being oppositely coupled to a wall adjacent the window. The hanger portions 12 of the bracket members 11 are designed for engaging one of the curtain rods whereby the associated one of the curtain rods extends across the window to allow the curtains to be positioned over the window.

[0020] Each of the bracket members 11 comprises a base plate 13. The base plate 13 of each of the bracket members 11 is designed for being coupled to the wall adjacent the window. Each of the hanger portions 12 of the associated one of the bracket members 11 extends outwardly from the base plate 13 of the associated one of the bracket members 11 whereby the hanger portions 12 are designed for extending outwardly from the wall on which the base plate 13 of the associated one of the bracket members 11 is coupled to.

[0021] The base plate 13 of each of the bracket members 11 comprises a plurality of mounting apertures 14. Each of the mounting apertures 14 extends through the base plate 13 of the associated one of the bracket members 11. Each of the mounting apertures 14 is designed for permitting a fastener member to extend through the associated one of the mounting apertures 14 and into the wall to secure the associated one of the bracket members 11 to the wall.

[0022] Each of the hanger portions 12 of the bracket members 11 comprises a body portion 15. The body portion 15 outwardly extends from the base plate 13 of the associated one of the bracket members 11. The body portion 15 is designed for being inserted into one of the ends of one of the curtain rods whereby the body portion 15 is for supporting a weight of the associated one of the curtain rods and the associated curtains when the curtain rods are coupled to the bracket members 11.

[0023] Each of the hanger portions 12 comprises a nub portion 16. The nub portion 16 extends downwardly from the body portion 15 of the associated one of the hanger portions 12. The nub portion 16 is designed for extending through a lower hole extending through the curtain rods to inhibit inadvertent movement of the associated one of the curtain rods when the curtains are moved by a user when the body portion 15 of the associated one of the hanger portions 12 is positioned in one of the ends of one of the curtain rods.

[0024] At least one of the hanger portions 12 comprises a hook portion 17. The hook portion 17 extends upwardly from the body portion 15 of the associated one of the hanger portions 12. The hook portion 17 is designed for extending through an upper hole of one of the curtain rods to inhibit the weight of the curtains from pulling the associated one of the curtain rods from said bracket members 11 when the body portion 15 of the associated one of the hanger portions 12 is positioned in the end of one of the curtain rods.

[0025] The hanger portions 12 comprise a first hanger portion 18 and a second hanger portion 19. The second hanger portion 19 is vertically aligned with the first hanger portion 18. The first hanger portion 18 and the second hanger portion 19 are designed for engaging curtain rods having a width, such as 2{fraction (1/2)} inches, greater than a length of the first hanger portion 18 whereby the first hanger portion 18 and the second hanger portion 19 are for supporting one of the curtain rods. The first hanger portion 18 is designed for engaging one of the curtain rods having a width, such as 1 inch, substantially equal to the length of the first hanger member whereby the first hanger portion 18 is for supporting one of the curtain rods.

[0026] In an embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5, the hanger portions 12 comprises a third hanger portion 20. The third hanger portion 20 is positioned to a side of the first bracket portion. The third hanger portion 20 is designed for engaging a second one of the curtain rods whereby the third hanger portion 20 positions the second one of the curtain rods parallel to the one of the curtain rods coupled to the first hanger portion 18.

[0027] In use, the user mounts one of the bracket members 11 to opposites sides of the window so that the first hanger portion 18 is positioned above the second hanger portion 19. The user then inserts the body portion 15 of the first hanger portion 18 and the second hanger portion 19 of each of the bracket members 11 into the ends of one of the curtain rods to secure the associated one of the curtain rods to the bracket members 11. In the alternative, the third hanger portion 20 of the bracket members 11 engages another one of the curtain rods so that the associated one of the curtain rods coupled to the third hanger portion 20 is positioned between the window and the one of the curtain rods coupled to the first hanger portion 18.

[0028] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A curtain rod bracket system for allowing curtain rods of different widths to be mounted adjacent a window to allow curtains to be hung, the curtain rod bracket system comprising:

each of a plurality of bracket members comprising a plurality of hanger portions, said bracket members being adapted for being oppositely coupled to a wall adjacent the window, said hanger portions of said bracket members being adapted for engaging one of the curtain rods such that the associated one of the curtain rods extends across the window to allow the curtains to be positioned over the window.

2. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:

each of said bracket members comprising a base plate, said base plate of each of said bracket members being adapted for being coupled to the wall adjacent the window, each of said hanger portions of the associated one of said bracket members extending outwardly from said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members such that said hanger portions are adapted for extending outwardly from the wall said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members is coupled to.

3. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:

said base plate of each of said bracket members comprising a plurality of mounting apertures, each of said mounting apertures extending through said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members, each of said mounting apertures being adapted for permitting a fastener member to extend through the associated one of said mounting apertures and into the wall to secure the associated one of said bracket members to the wall.

4. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 2, further comprising:

each of said hanger portions of said bracket members comprising a body portion, said body portion outwardly extending from said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members, said body portion being adapted for being inserted into one of the ends of one of the curtain rods such that said body portion is for supporting a weight of the associated one of the curtain rods and the associated curtains when the curtain rods are coupled to said bracket members.

5. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 4, further comprising:

each of said hanger portions comprising a nub portion, said nub portion extending downwardly from said body portion of the associated one of said hanger portions, said nub portion being adapted for extending through a lower hole extending through the curtain rods to inhibit inadvertent movement of the associated one of the curtain rods when the curtains are moved by a user when said body portion of the associated one of said hanger portions is positioned in one of the ends of one of the curtain rods.

6. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 4, further comprising:

at least one of said hanger portions comprising a hook portion, said hook portion extending upwardly from said body portion of the associated one of said hanger portions, said hook portion being adapted for extending through an upper hole of one of the curtain rods to inhibit the weight of the curtains from pulling the associated one of the curtain rods from said bracket members when said body portion of the associated one of the hanger portions is positioned in the end of one of said curtain rods.

7. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:

said hanger portions comprising a first hanger portion and a second hanger portion, said second hanger portion being vertically aligned with said first hanger portion, said first hanger portion and said second hanger portion being adapted for engaging one of the curtain rods having a width greater than a length of said first hanger portion such that said first hanger portion and said second hanger portion are for supporting one of the curtain rods, said first hanger portion being adapted for engaging one of the curtain rods having a width substantially equal to the length of said first hanger member such that said first hanger portion is for supporting one of the curtain rods.

8. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 7, further comprising:

said hanger portions comprising a third hanger portion, said third hanger portion being positioned to a side of said first bracket portion, said third hanger portion being adapted for engaging a second one of the curtain rods such that said third hanger portion positions the second one of the curtain rods parallel to the one of the curtain rods coupled to said first hanger portion.

9. A curtain rod bracket system for allowing curtain rods of different widths to be mounted adjacent a window to allow curtains to be hung, the curtain rod bracket system comprising:

each of a plurality of bracket members comprising a plurality of hanger portions, said bracket members being adapted for being oppositely coupled to a wall adjacent the window, said hanger portions of said bracket members being adapted for engaging one of the curtain rods such that the associated one of the curtain rods extends across the window to allow the curtains to be positioned over the window;

each of said bracket members comprising a base plate, said base plate of each of said bracket members being adapted for being coupled to the wall adjacent the window, each of said hanger portions of the associated one of said bracket members extending outwardly from said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members such that said hanger portions are adapted for extending outwardly from the wall said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members is coupled to;

said base plate of each of said bracket members comprising a plurality of mounting apertures, each of said mounting apertures extending through said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members, each of said mounting apertures being adapted for permitting a fastener member to extend through the associated one of said mounting apertures and into the wall to secure the associated one of said bracket members to the wall;

each of said hanger portions of said bracket members comprising a body portion, said body portion outwardly extending from said base plate of the associated one of said bracket members, said body portion being adapted for being inserted into one of the ends of one of the curtain rods such that said body portion is for supporting a weight of the associated one of the curtain rods and the associated curtains when the curtain rods are coupled to said bracket members;

each of said hanger portions comprising a nub portion, said nub portion extending downwardly from said body portion of the associated one of said hanger portions, said nub portion being adapted for extending through a lower hole extending through the curtain rods to inhibit inadvertent movement of the associated one of the curtain rods when the curtains are moved by a user when said body portion of the associated one of said hanger portions is positioned in one of the ends of one of the curtain rods;

at least one of said hanger portions comprising a hook portion, said hook portion extending upwardly from said body portion of the associated one of said hanger portions, said hook portion being adapted for extending through an upper hole of one of the curtain rods to inhibit the weight of the curtains from pulling the associated one of the curtain rods from said bracket members when said body portion of the associated one of the hanger portions is positioned in the end of one of said curtain rods; and

said hanger portions comprising a first hanger portion and a second hanger portion, said second hanger portion being vertically aligned with said first hanger portion, said first hanger portion and said second hanger portion being adapted for engaging one of the curtain rods having a width greater than a length of said first hanger portion such that said first hanger portion and said second hanger portion are for supporting one of the curtain rods, said first hanger portion being adapted for engaging one of the curtain rods having a width substantially equal to the length of said first hanger member such that said first hanger portion is for supporting one of the curtain rods.

10. The curtain rod bracket system as set forth in claim 9, further comprising:

said hanger portions comprising a third hanger portion, said third hanger portion being positioned to a side of said first bracket portion, said third hanger portion being adapted for engaging a second one of the curtain rods such that said third hanger portion positions the second one of the curtain rods parallel to the one of the curtain rods coupled to said first hanger portion.
