Decorative ceiling, wall, and floor structure

The invention consists of a premoulded frame that gets secured to a substrate or hung from supports independently. This premoulded frame has indentions that from a waterproof fit when properly shaped tiles are installed.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to decorative ceilings, walls and floors structure and, more particularly, to a applying tiles and panels to this structure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to a decorative and functional ceiling, wall, and floor structure. In particular, the invention relates to a structure that consists of two parts. The first part is a pre-molded grid panel that forms 4 inch by 4 inch ovals. These ovals have a vertical cut from their tops to halfway through the side edge of the 4 inch pattern which allows for expansion and contraction. Tiles with pre-made oval legs underneath them insert into the grid ovals. These tiles push against the inside edge of the grid ovals making a waterproof seal. The tile faces can be made of different sizes to allow for different appearances such as a grout line formed by the juxtaposition of the tiles inside the grid. This grout line can be of varying sizes or not present at all depending upon the size and juxtaposition of the tiles inside the grid. Both the grid and tile can be made of plastic, metal, wood or any other building material.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Referring to the drawings, the present invention is shown and described with respect to a ceiling, wall, or floor of any type. Examples include, but are not limited to: a bathroom, kitchen backsplash, or any other room in the house. The invention can also be used in commercial facilities. The many uses of the invention will be made clear to those who read the description. An assembly embodying the invention includes a pre-molded grid panel (#1). This panel has oval shaped (#2) 4 inch by inch openings (#3) forming a grid pattern of equal size. This grid panel has a cut vertically halfway through the inside edge of formed ovals (#4). This cut allows for expansion and contraction of inside face of ovals (#5). Near the bottom, inside face of ovals is a cut out (#6) for locking an removing bump on tile. At very bottom of panel, the ovals are turned in (#7) and extend ¾ of an inch toward center of ovals to allow for fastening (#8) to ceiling, wall or floor. Panel also has appatures allowing for panels to lock together (#9) in two sides. Panel also has a vertical rib underneath (#10) to allow for appatures to lock. Tiles have a decorative face (#11) that can be made different sizes (#12) to allow for the appearance of a grout line (#13) of different sizes or no grout line at all. This grout line (or lack thereof) is formed by the tile size and placement in the grid (#14). Tiles can also have beveled edges, rounded edges (#15), or square edges as desired. Tiles also have an appature on all four sides at the bottom of the oval leg (#16) for locking into the grid. Tiles have a vertical oval leg molded to the bottom of the tiles that fit into the ovals of the grid (#17). Filling the ovals of the grid (#18) with tiles (#19) give the finished look of a tiled or paneled ceiling, wall, or floor. This system is completely waterproof and can be made from plastic, metal, wood or any other building material.

Claims

1. A panel of oval shapes of equal size and dimension horizontally and vertically to form a grid pattern to accept tiles. These tiles fit between ovals to give the look of a grout line of different sizes or to eliminate grout line completely if desired.

2. The panel has a cut from top to halfway down on inside edge of ovals to allow for waterproofing when tiles are placed between ovals.

3. Inside of ovals near bottom will have a slot on all four sides to allow for tile backing.

4. Tiles will have oval pattern legs underneath decorative face spaced to fit ovals in panel. Tiles also have a protrusion on outside face of oval legs to firmly secure tile fit.

5. If so desired, tile face can be made of different sizes to show grout line of different sizes or eliminate grout line completely. Different size tiles such as 8 inch by 8 inch, 12 inch by 12 inch, 8 inch by 12 inch, 4 inch by 8 inch, or similar sizes can be used in same panel to make a complete waterproof system.
