Umbrella holder

Abstract

An umbrella holder comprises of a housing having a closed end and an open end and wherein the holder is of sufficient length to house the body of a closed umbrella, and a platform that is attached to the housing at least one inch from the closed end of the holder, wherein the platform has at least one drain hole defined within. The umbrella holder ideally would be made of a rigid plastic material or any other material that would withstand oxidation and that would also be able to support the weight of the umbrella. The umbrella holder can also have a carrying handle attached to the outside of the housing to carry the umbrella holder.

Description

BACKGROUND

There is a need for a device that will house an umbrella after its use, wherein the device will drain any water from the umbrella.

On a rainy day, the inventor of the present invention realized that there was a need for an umbrella holder that would drain any excess water from the umbrella after its use. On that day, the inventor walked from his office to his friend's car and sat in the passenger seat. He was using an umbrella that day. When he closed the umbrella and placed it by his side he soaked his clothes. This brought a lot of discomfort to him for he was going to meet a client at that time. This is when he realized that there must be a way for securing an umbrella after its use that would allow the umbrella to drain any excess water without inconveniencing the user of the umbrella.

An object of this invention is to allow an umbrella to be stored after its use without soaking the immediate environment that the umbrella is in.

SUMMARY

The present invention is directed to an umbrella holder that houses an umbrella within and allows any excess water form the umbrella to drain into a basin within the umbrella holder. The umbrella holder comprises of a housing having a closed end and an open end and wherein the holder is of sufficient length to house the body of a closed umbrella, and a platform that is attached to the housing at least one inch from the closed end of the holder, wherein the platform has at least one drain hole defined within. The umbrella holder ideally would be made of a rigid plastic material or any other material that would withstand oxidation and that would also be able to support the weight of the umbrella. The umbrella holder can also have a carrying handle attached to the outside of the housing to carry the umbrella holder.

An advantage of this invention is that it allows an umbrella to be stored after its use without soaking the immediate environment that the umbrella is in.

DESCRIPTION

As seen in FIG. 1, an umbrella holder 10 comprises of a housing 12 having a closed end 12a and an open end 12b and wherein the housing 12 is of sufficient length to house the body of a closed umbrella, and a platform 14 that is attached to the housing 12 at least one inch from the closed end 12a of the housing 12, wherein the platform 14 has at least one drain hole 16 defined within. The umbrella holder 10 ideally would be made of a rigid plastic material or any other material that would withstand oxidation and that would also be able to support the weight of the umbrella. The umbrella holder 10 can also have a carrying handle 18 attached to the outside of the housing 12 to carry the umbrella holder.

In one embodiment of the current invention, the umbrella holder's housing 12 is barrel shaped. The housing would have a diameter of at least one inch and a length of at least ten inches. The platform would have a plurality of drain holes defined within.

The current invention would be used by placing a closed wet umbrella within the housing 12 of the umbrella holder 10 and placing the umbrella holder 10 upright, more specifically, placing the closed end 12a of the housing 12 on a flat surface so that any water collected on the umbrella is allowed to drain from the umbrella to a basin 22 within the housing 12. After the umbrella is drained of any water, the umbrella would be removed from the umbrella holder 10 and the umbrella holder 10 would be turned upside down so that any water collected within the umbrella holder 10 is allowed to drain out of the umbrella holder 10.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, material, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships with those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specifications are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Therefore, the forgoing description is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. An umbrella holder comprising:

a housing having an open and a closed end, wherein the housing is of sufficient length to house a closed umbrella; and

a platform attached to the housing at least one inch from the closed end of the housing, wherein the platform defines at least one drain hole within.

2. The umbrella holder of claim 1, further comprising a handle that is attached to the outside of the housing.

3. The umbrella holder of claim 2, wherein the housing is made of a rigid material that is non-oxidizing.

4. The umbrella holder of claim 3, wherein the platform has a plurality of drain holes defined within.

5. The umbrella holder of claim 4, wherein the length of the housing is at least ten inches and the diameter of the housing is at least one inch.

6. The umbrella holder of claim 5, wherein the housing is barrel shaped.

7. The umbrella holder of claim 1, wherein the housing is made of a rigid material that is non-oxidizing.

8. The umbrella holder of claim 7, wherein the platform has a plurality of drain holes defined within.

9. The umbrella holder of claim 8, wherein the length of the housing is at least ten inches and the diameter of the housing is at least one inch.

10. The umbrella holder of claim 9, wherein the housing is barrel shaped.

11. The umbrella holder of claim 1, wherein the length of the housing is at least ten inches and the diameter of the housing is at least one inch.

12. The umbrella holder of claim 11, wherein the housing is barrel shaped.

13. The umbrella holder of claim 1, wherein the housing is barrel shaped.

14. The umbrella holder of claim 13, wherein the housing is made of a rigid material that is non-oxidizing.

15. The umbrella holder of claim 14, wherein the length of the housing is at least ten inches and the diameter of the housing is at least one inch.
