Web guiding element of a newspaper press

A web guiding element of a newspaper press includes guide rolls mounted in a frame to form a pre-assembled unit which can be inserted into a paper shaft extending through a ceiling between a reel changer region below the ceiling and a printing unit region above the ceiling. The unit is fixed to the ceiling by holding apparatuses fastened to web guiding walls fixed to the ceiling adjacent to the paper shaft.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The invention relates to a web guiding element of a newspaper press having a ceiling with a paper shaft extending between a reel changer region below the ceiling and a printing unit region above the ceiling.

2. Description of the Related Art

Web guiding elements serve to guide the paper webs which are to be printed from the reel changer region, what is known as the reel stack, via a paper shaft into the printing unit region. When setting up or maintaining the newspaper press, the web guiding elements have previously usually been mounted by hand. Here, first of all holding apparatuses are fastened to the underside of the ceiling construction which separates the reel changer region from the printing unit region. After mounting of the holding elements, the individual guide rolls are fastened to the holding elements.

As the space on offer in the reel changer region is limited, it is not possible to use auxiliary apparatuses such as cranes or lifting gear during the mounting of the guide rolls. In association with the relatively high weight of the guide rolls, which weight can quite possibly lie in the region of as much as approximately 80 kilograms depending on the size of the printing press, mounting of the guide rolls can therefore only be carried out by a plurality of auxiliary personnel.

Furthermore, the guide rolls have to be aligned in the holding apparatuses, in order that a satisfactory printed image can be achieved by correct guiding of the paper web during the later printing process.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Proceeding from this, the present invention is based on the problem of reducing the mounting expenditure for web guiding elements and at the same time reducing the adjusting expenditure for the guide rolls.

According to the invention, the web guiding element has at least one guide roll which is pre-mounted in a frame or in a housing. This assembly is inserted as an entire unit into the paper shaft and is fastened to the web guiding wall by way of holding apparatuses.

The configuration of the guide roll as an assembly with the frame or the housing makes it possible to insert the web guiding element from the printing unit region downwards into the reel changer region, the use of lifting gear such as ceiling cranes being possible as a result. Moreover, the previous mounting of the guide rolls on the previous holding apparatuses is dispensed with as a result of the pre-mounted construction.

The alignment expenditure overall of the guide rolls is reduced or even avoided by fastening the assembly to the web guiding wall which is oriented in the three coordinate directions x, y and z within the arrangement of the newspaper press. If the frame or the housing is manufactured with low manufacturing tolerances, a further guide-roll alignment process is unnecessary as a rule, as the guide roll has already been aligned by being fastened to the web guiding wall.

The length dimension and the width dimension of the assembly can be smaller than or equal to the length dimension and the width dimension of the paper shaft, with the result that the insertion of the assembly into the paper shaft is made easier.

According to one advantageous development of the invention, the height dimension of the assembly, that is to say from the printing unit region in the direction of the reel changer region, is preferably greater than or equal to the paper-shaft height. Depending on the height of the assembly, the distance of the guide rolls from the underside of the ceiling construction can be set and the angle of attack of the paper web can therefore be varied. If the angle of attack of the paper web is perpendicular or almost perpendicular with respect to the ceiling construction, it is also conceivable for the height dimension of the assembly to be configured so as to be smaller than the paper-shaft height.

It is advantageous if, for sound insulation, at least one sound insulation element is arranged between the printing unit region and the reel changer region. This sound insulation between the reel changer region and the printing unit region is stipulated partly in a country-specific manner. The sound insulation element can then be mounted on the assembly of the web guiding element, as a result of which mounting the sound insulation element in the paper-shaft region can be dispensed with, which has previously been rather complicated.

Furthermore, it is favorable to use the sound insulation element as one or more frame walls or housing walls of the assembly. Here, the sound insulation element can be configured as a holding element of the at least one guide roll and absorb at least part of the weight of the at least one guide roll. In one particular embodiment of the invention, the frame or the housing is formed exclusively from sound insulation elements.

In order to make it possible to fasten the frame or the housing to the web guiding wall in a particular and simple manner with an accurate fit, it is proposed to configure the holding apparatuses as pin elements, preferably locating pins, and/or holes which can be connected to complementary holes and/or pin elements on or in the web guiding wall. In addition to the pin connections, the frame or the housing can have a screw connection or a similar form-fitting or force-transmitting connection between the frame and the housing and the web guiding wall.

A further advantageous embodiment of the web guiding element provides for at least one further holding apparatus to be arranged on the frame or on the housing of the web guiding element and on the underside of the ceiling construction in the reel changer region. An oscillating of the frame or of the housing is avoided by this additional fastening of the frame or the housing, or transmission of oscillations from the printing unit region into the reel changer region or vice versa is reduced. An angular element or a U-shaped rail is suitable, for example, as holding apparatus, one limb being fastened to the frame or to the housing and the other limb being fastened to the paper shaft or to the ceiling construction.

Furthermore, it is of advantage if adjusting elements are arranged on the frame or on the housing, it being possible to change the alignment of the guide roll by way of these adjusting elements. In principle, the correct positioning of the guide rolls has already been performed by the attachment of the frame or the housing to the aligned web guiding wall. However, fine adjustment of the guide roll can be performed by way of the adjusting elements, in order to compensate for tolerances of the frame or the housing in this way.

Depending on the embodiment of the web guiding element, two or more guide rolls can be arranged with these axes offset with respect to one another or in a line.

Other objects and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. It is to be understood, however, that the drawings are designed solely for purposes of illustration and not as a definition of the limits of the invention, for which reference should be made to the appended claims. It should be further understood that the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale and that, unless otherwise indicated, they are merely intended to conceptually illustrate the structures and procedures described herein.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENTLY PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

FIG. 1 shows a sectional view through the region of the paper shaft 4 of a newspaper press. The printing unit region 1 is situated in the upper part of FIG. 1, in which region stand the printing units of the newspaper press. Separated by a ceiling construction 3, the reel changer region 2 is situated in the lower part of FIG. 1, in which region the paper which is to be printed is mounted on reel changers. In order to insulate the sound between the printing unit region 1 and the reel changer region 2, sound insulation elements 5 are attached in the paper shaft or well 4, which sound insulation elements 5 are mounted on the wall of the paper shaft.

One or more paper webs 8 are to be conveyed with the web guiding element from the reel changer region 2 via the paper shaft 4 into the printing unit region 1 to the printing units. In this embodiment, the web guiding element comprises a holding apparatus 7 which has fastened to it the two guide rolls 6 here. During construction of the newspaper press, first of all the holding apparatus 7 is fastened to the underside of the ceiling construction 3, and afterwards the guide rolls 6 are mounted on the holding apparatus 7 and aligned. Depending on the size of the newspaper press, the guide rolls 6 can have a weight of approximately 80 kg, for which reason a plurality of people are necessary for the mounting of the guide rolls 6. The arrow 13 indicates the installation direction of the guide rolls 6 during the assembly of the newspaper press. It is an aim of the invention to reduce the mounting expenditure of the web guiding elements and at the same time to reduce the adjusting expenditure for the guide rolls, possible embodiments of a web guiding element being shown in FIGS. 2 and 3.

FIG. 2 shows a sectional view through the paper shaft 4 and through the web guiding element according to the invention. Here, the web guiding element is configured as a pre-mounted assembly 10 which is configured in this embodiment as a housing 9 having four walls 10.4 and 10.5. The width 10.1 and the length 10.2 of the assembly 10 are adapted to the paper-shaft width 4.1 and the paper-shaft length 4.2. The assembly 10 also has a height 10.3, which is greater than the paper shaft height 4.3. The assembly 10, to which two guide rolls are fastened in the lower region on the side walls 10.4, is preferably pushed in from the printing unit region 1 into the reel changer region 2 in the direction of the arrow 14. As a result, a ceiling crane in the printing unit region can be used during the mounting of the web guiding element, and the expenditure on personnel during mounting can therefore be reduced. The assembly 10 is fastened, for example, with pin elements 12 to the web guiding wall 11. A further advantage of the novel web guiding element is the direct fastening of the sound insulation elements 5 to the front/rear wall 10.5 of the housing 9 of the assembly 10. As a result, the complicated mounting of the sound insulation elements 5 in the paper shaft 4 is dispensed with.

FIG. 3 shows a further sectional view of the web guiding element from FIG. 2, the sectional axis running along the guide rolls 6 and along the paper-shaft length 4.2. A fastening 12 on the web guiding wall 11 can be seen in each case on the left and the right in the upper region of the assembly.

FIG. 3a shows an enlarged view of the region which is circled in FIG. 3. This shows the fastening of the assembly or the side wall 10.4 of the assembly on the web guiding wall 11 by way of a fastening assembly including a pin element 12 and a locating pin 15.

The web guiding element according to the invention can therefore be inserted from the printing unit region through the paper shaft into the reel changer region, that is to say in the direction in which gravity acts. An insertion in the opposite direction is also possible. As the available space in the printing unit region is not as restricted as in the reel changer region, it is then possible to use auxiliary apparatuses. As a result, the expenditure on personnel during mounting and the manual work with respect to the heavy web guiding elements can be reduced.

The expenditure for aligning the guide rolls can be minimized or avoided by fastening the web guiding elements to the web guiding walls which have already been aligned.

Thus, while there have shown and described and pointed out fundamental novel features of the invention as applied to a preferred embodiment thereof, it will be understood that various omissions and substitutions and changes in the form and details of the devices illustrated, and in their operation, may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention. For example, it is expressly intended that all combinations of those elements and/or method steps which perform substantially the same function in substantially the same way to achieve the same results are within the scope of the invention. Moreover, it should be recognized that structures and/or elements and/or method steps shown and/or described in connection with any disclosed form or embodiment of the invention may be incorporated in any other disclosed or described or suggested form or embodiment as a general matter of design choice. It is the intention, therefore, to be limited only as indicated by the scope of the claims appended hereto.

Claims

1. A web guiding element of a newspaper press having a ceiling with a paper shaft extending between a printing unit region above the ceiling and a reel changer region below the ceiling, said web guiding element comprising:

at least one web guiding wall fixed to the ceiling adjacent to the paper shaft;
a frame;
at least one guide roll mounted in the frame; and
at least two holding apparatuses for fastening the web guiding element to the at least one web guiding wall;
wherein the frame and the guide rolls form a pre-assembled unit which can be received in the paper shaft and fixed to said at least one web guiding wall by the holding apparatuses.

2. The web guiding element of claim 1 wherein the pre-assembled unit has a length dimension and a width dimension which are less than the length dimension and the width dimension of the paper shaft.

3. The web guiding element of claim 1 wherein the pre-assembled unit has a height which is greater than the height of the paper shaft.

5. The web guiding element of claim 1 wherein the frame comprises at least one wall formed by a sound insulation element.

6. The web guiding element of claim 1 further comprising at least one sound insulation element configured as a holding element of the at least one guide roll.

7. The web guiding element of claim 1 wherein each said holding apparatus comprises a locating pin received in a hole in the web guiding wall, and a pin element received in the locating pin.

8. The web guiding element of claim 1 further comprising a holding apparatus arranged on the frame for fastening the preassembled unit to the ceiling in the reel changer region.

9. The web guiding element of claim 8 wherein the further holding apparatus is configured as one of an angular element and a U-shaped rail.

10. The web guiding element of claim 1 further comprising adjusting elements arranged on the frame, said adjusting elements being useful for changing the alignment of the guide rolls.

11. The web guiding element 1 wherein the guide rolls have axes which are offset with respect to one another or in a line.

12. The web guiding element of claim 1 comprising two said web guiding walls fixed to the ceiling in the printing unit region above the ceiling.
