Description
PRIORITY

The present invention claims priority under 35 USC section 119 based on the U.S. provisional application Ser. No. 60/694,378 which was filed on Jun. 28, 2005.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to liners for helmets, hats, caps or other head coverings and more specifically to a limited life or a disposable liner for use with head coverings.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

It is well known that human beings perspire moisture in significant amounts while engaging in strenuous physical activity. This perspiration can result in the staining of clothing if the perspiration is allowed to contact the clothing. The hats or the head coverings are particularly susceptible to this type of staining because of the large amount of perspiration that is generated by the head of the human being. A common method of removal of such moisture involves the placement of a moisture-absorbent cloth, such as cotton terrycloth or the like, against an individual's skin. The use of headbands of moisture absorbent cloth is common among participants in athletics to keep perspiration from flowing into eyes and impairing the vision of the exercising individuals. Similarly, hats are commonly provided with a sweat band to absorb perspiration from the head of a hat wearer.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In accordance with the present invention, a liner for a helmet, hat, cap or other head covering has dome body which includes a moisture absorbing material. Although other shapes are possible, a form of the invention comprises a liner of a generally semi-spherical shape.

In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the dome body includes an adhesive portion for releasably securing the liner to the interior of the head covering. An adhesive coating or adhesive tape may be used for this purpose with a release paper or covering overlaying and protecting the adhesive area prior to mounting the liner in position.

As a more specific aspect of the present invention, the dome body of the liner may include typically a non-woven liquid permeable material to allow moisture to be absorbed into the core of the liner.

As a further aspect of the present invention, the liner may include holes or apertures to allow heat to escape from the head of the user.

It is accordingly one object of the present invention to provide an improved liner for helmets, hats, caps and other head coverings.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a highly absorbent liner for head coverings.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a liner for head coverings which may be easily installed and removed and which is relatively inexpensive so that it may be disposed of following soiling or use.

The liner of the present invention provides users with an effective device for protecting headgear as well as the skin of a user from the sometimes detrimental effects of perspiration.

The liner of the present invention provides an effective barrier between the neck and the head of the user and the hat of the user.

The liner of the present invention significantly reduces the problem of stains and soiling that result from perspiration sweating. Consequently, the liner of the present invention effectively extends the life of the hat and saves the user the expense of replacing the hat.

The liner is soft and gentle and extremely comfortable to wear and provides the user with absorbent cushioning about the head and neck. Consequently, the bumps and rashes that result from chafing could be virtually eliminated.

These and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent with reference to the following description and drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

FIG. 1 illustrates the liner 200 of the present invention. Additionally, FIG. 1 illustrates an example of a hat 100 to illustrate the functionality of the liner 200. The liner 200 illustrates an dome body 208 in an approximate shape of a semi sphere with a band of adhesive 206 around the periphery of the dome body 208. The band of adhesive 206 is to releasably attach the liner 200 to the hat 100. The liner 200 may be disposable such that after the liner 200 is inserted into the hat 100, the exterior surface of the liner 200 is pressed against the interior of the hat 100, and the adhesive 206 attaches to the interior surface of the hat 100. When the user desires to replace the liner 200, the user grasps the liner 200 and pulls the liner 200 away from the hat 100. The adhesive 206 releases from the interior surface of the hat 100, and the process can be repeated with a new liner 200. The dome body 208 includes apertures 208 to correspond to the apertures 102 in the hat 100 to release heat. The liner 200 is formed from absorbent material and is shaped to facilitate adherence to the inside of the hat 100 which is shown as a ball cap. The liner 200 may be formed from soften cotton or other synthetic fabric material, and the semispherical shape corresponds to the interior curvature of hats and caps. The liner 200 could be constructed from a plurality of sizes which may or may not correspond to the standardized sizes of hats or caps. Alternatively, the liner 200 could be formed as a one-size-fits-all configuration.

The present invention can be used by general users including users in American households, users in lawn care activities, athletics, food service workers, postal workers, military personnel, police officers, construction workers, agriculture workers, manufacturing personnel, gift givers and users of the international market.

The liner 200 may be releasably secured to the hat 100. The adhesive 206 may be plural adhesive tape strips to accomplish the fastening. The liner 200 should also be easily removable without leaving an adhesive residue or film, and without causing the permanent liner of the hat 100 to deform.

While the invention is susceptible to various modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiments thereof have been shown by way of example in the drawings and are herein described in detail. It should be understood, however, that the description herein of specific embodiments is not intended to limit the invention to the particular forms disclosed.

Claims

1. A liner to protect a hat of a user, comprising:

a dome body to protect said hat;
an adhesive device attached to a periphery of said dome body to releasably attach to said hat.

2. A liner to protect a hat of a user as in claim 1, wherein said dome body is substantially semi spherical in shape.

3. A liner to protect a hat of a user as in claim 1, wherein said dome body is liquid permeable.

4. A liner to protect a hat of a user as in claim 1, wherein said dome body includes an aperture.

5. A liner to protect a hat of a user as in claim 1, wherein said dome body is disposable.

6. A liner to protect a hat of a user as in claim 1, wherein said dome body prevents perspiration from staining said hat.
