RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application 60/762,681 filed Jan. 27, 2006, the entirety of which is incorporated herein by reference.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION Field of the Invention

The invention relates to sheets. More specifically, the invention relates to fitted top sheets.

Many people dislike the activity of making a bed, while enjoying the appearance of a neatly made bed. Hospital corners have a desirable appearance, but making a bed featuring a hospital corner involves both skill and effort.

It is therefore desirable to improve upon the prior art.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention provides a bed sheet including a sheet of fabric including a top surface and a bottom surface. The sheet further includes a head end and a foot end opposing the head end, the foot end including a first corner and second corner and at least one length of a stretchable material embedded in a portion of the foot end, the length of stretchable material extending to encompass the first corner and second corner. Additionally, the sheet includes a mattress edge near the foot end, the mattress edge defining a first leg of a tapered portion, the first leg including a first attached length constructed from attaching a first portion of the top surface to a second portion of the top surface and a first unattached length, the first attached length including an upper end and a lower end, the lower end extending to the first unattached length, and wherein a second leg of the tapered section extends from the upper end at a non-right angle, the second leg including a second attached length constructed from attaching a third portion of the top surface to a fourth portion of the top surface and a second unattached length wherein the second unattached length is defined by the line of the second attached length and extending between the second attached length and a side edge of the sheet, and wherein the tapered portion overhangs at least a portion of the length of stretchable material when the sheet of fabric is deployed on a mattress.

The foregoing and other features and advantages of the invention are apparent from the following detailed description of exemplary embodiments, read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. The detailed description and drawings are merely illustrative of the invention rather than limiting, the scope of the invention being defined by the appended claims and equivalents thereof.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 illustrates a top view of a top sheet in accordance with one aspect of the invention; and

FIG. 2 illustrates a side view of one of the first or second corners in accordance with one aspect of the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

FIG. 1 illustrates a top view of a top sheet 100 in accordance with one aspect of the invention. Top sheet 100 includes a top surface and bottom surface defined by the surfaces of the material and a head end 105 and foot end 120 opposing the head end 105. The foot end 120 includes first corner 125 and second corner 130. A length of a stretchable material 130 is embedded in a portion of the foot end 120, the length of stretchable material 130 extending to encompass the first corner 125 and second corner 130.

FIG. 2 illustrates a side view of one of the first or second corners 125, 130 in accordance with one aspect of the invention. Additionally, the sheet includes a mattress edge 201 near the foot end, the mattress edge 201 defining a first leg 202 of a tapered portion 206, the first leg 202 including a first attached length 205 constructed from attaching a first portion of the top surface to a second portion of the top surface and a first unattached length 210, the first attached length 205 including an upper end 206 and a lower end 207, the lower end 207 extending to the first unattached length 210, and wherein a second leg 222 of the tapered section 206 extends from the upper end 206 at a non-right angle 290, the second leg 222 including a second attached length 215 constructed from attaching a third portion of the top surface to a fourth portion of the top surface and a second unattached length 220 wherein the second unattached length 220 is defined by the line of the second attached length 215 and extending between the second attached length 215 and a side edge 213 of the sheet and wherein the tapered portion 206 overhangs at least a portion of the length of stretchable material 130 when the sheet is deployed on a mattress.

The attachments can be implemented with stitching or adhesives. Alternatively, the attachments can be removable, such as hook-and-loop attachments, zippers, buttons, snaps or the like. Additionally, the sheet can include a single piece of material, or the sheet can be formed from at least two pieces of material.

In one embodiment, the first leg and second leg define two legs of a conical portion. In another embodiment, the bottom surface of the sheet is used for attachments.

While the preferred embodiments of the invention have been shown and described, numerous variations and alternative embodiments will occur to those of ordinary skill in the art. Accordingly, it is intended that the invention not be limited to as described, but also encompass the equivalents of the invention described, as well as any improvements which are obvious to those of ordinary skill in the art.
