Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates to a universal adjustable pull bow, which includes a ribbon that extends around a package, with two tails, engaged with a cinch retainer for tightening, which cinch retainer is engaged with a bow or other decorative ornament, holding it on the ribbon.

2. Description of the Prior Art

Bows made of ribbon are well known in the art, and are used to secure packages as well as to provide a decorative appearance.

The manual formation of bows on packages is a process that requires care, and does not always produce a tight or attractive bow. As a result preformed bows have become popular, but securement of them to packages of varying size and shape, and packaging materials is difficult. U.S. Pat. No. 4,528,217 discloses an adjustable pull bow of a single length of material, with a bow portion and an adjustable loop portion, which has a stationary bow tail and an adjustable bow tail. The bow is tied in a knot with the adjustable loop portion around the package. This structure is subject to loosening as the bow can shift position, and the resulting product is limited to two loops and two tails.

The bow of the invention has two adjustable tails, can have a number of loops, securely holds the loops, and provides for combinations of bows and decorative items.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This invention is directed to a universal adjustable pull bow, which has a length of ribbon extending around a package with a cinch retainer through which the two tails of ribbon extend at the center, which cinch retainer can hold a bow or other decorative item to the ribbon.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a universal adjustable pull bow with two adjustable tails engaged with a cinch retainer, which also is engaged with a bow or other decorative item.

A further object of the invention is to provide a universal bow, which can be used on a variety of types and sizes of packages.

A further object of the invention is to provide a universal bow, which is easy to use.

A further object of the invention is to provide a universal bow, which permits placement at the desired location on the package.

A further object of the invention is to provide a universal bow which provides for greater securement to the package than other bows.

A further object of the invention is to provide a universal bow which is easy to manufacture, and suitable for mass production.

Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the description and claims.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof in which:

FIG. 1 is a view in perspective showing one embodiment of the universal adjustable pull bow attached to a package.

FIG. 2 is a side elevational exploded view of the bow prior to securing it to a package.

FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2 showing the bow's tails being pulled to secure the bow to a package.

FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 3, but with the bow secured to a package.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 1 illustrating a combination of bow and decorative items.

FIG. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 5 illustrating another combination of bow and a decorative item.

It should, of course, be understood that the description and drawings herein are merely illustrative, and that various modifications and changes can be made in the structures disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

When referring to the preferred embodiments, certain terminology will be utilized for the sake of clarity. Use of such terminology is intended to encompass not only the described embodiments, but also technical equivalents, which operate and function in substantially the same way to bring about the same result.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings and FIGS. 1-4 thereof, one embodiment of the universal adjustable pull bow 10 is therein illustrated in contact with a package 11. The bow 10 includes a length of ribbon 12 of well-known type, which may be solid or woven, and available from many manufacturers. The ribbon 11 has a left hand tail 14 and a right hand tail 15. A cinch retainer 16 is provided through which both the left hand and right hand tails 14 and 15 have been pulled and which retainer 16 prevents slippage. The retainer 16 may be formed of one or more loops of ribbon of well-known type, and available from many manufacturers.

The cinch retainer 16 is engaged with a plurality of loops 20, and tails 21 and 22 of ribbon of well-known type, forming a decorative item 24, which is a bow, with the retainer 16 wrapped around decorative item 24, and tied in a knot (not shown) with two tails 18 extending around the ribbon 12 securing the item 24 thereto.

If desired a plurality of loops of elastic string material (not shown) may be provided under retainer 16 for greater retention of the item 24, and the ribbon tails 14 and 15.

As shown in FIG. 2, the ribbon 12 is around package 11 the tails 14 and 15 have not been pulled, and the tails 18 have not been secured to ribbon 11.

In FIG. 3 the ribbon 12 is around package 11, with the loops 20, and tails 21, 22 held by retainer 16 and tails 14 and 15 of bow 10 being pulled.

In FIG. 4 the tails 14 and 15 have been pulled causing the ribbon 12 to tightly grip the package 11, and which are restrained from slipping by the cinch retainer 16.

Referring to FIG. 5, a package 11 is shown with a bow 50 thereon, of similar construction to bow 10, but with a plurality of decorative flowers 51 engaged by the cinch retainer 16.

In FIG. 6 a package 11 has a bow 75 thereon, of similar construction to bow 10 with a teddy bear decorative item 76 engaged by the cinch retainer 16.

It will thus be seen that structure has been provided with which the objects of the invention are achieved.
