Container Applied In Medical Drugs And Cosmetic Items Packaging

Constructive disposition applied in medical drugs and cosmetic items packaging, or more particularly, the present Utility Model presents constructive and functional enhancements, specially developed for the utilization of the whole medical drugs or cosmetic items content, and for such, it is formed by two pieces, being one container (1) and one base (2), such as the container (1) presents a conformation practically cylindrical and its bottom presents a conic shape (3), in “V”, enabling the utilization of the total added content and the perfect dosing capitation.

Description
CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This U.S. National Stage Application is based upon a Brazilian PCT Application PCT/BR2005/000206 filed Sep. 29, 2005, which is based upon Brazilian priority application No. MU8500295-0, filed Feb. 23, 2005. These prior Brazilian applications are relied upon for priority purposes in this application and are incorporated by reference herein.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This application is directed to a packaging assembly for medical and cosmetic products, and more particularly relates to a constructive arrangement that will allow utilization of the entire contents of the packaging, avoiding undesirable waste, and provide more accurate dosing of the product from the open end of the container.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Prior art packaging for containers provide for effective utilization and storage of drugs and cosmetic items but commonly will have a convex bottom for the container configuration, precluding the container from supporting itself on a flat surface. Consequently, there is a need for a container assembly which will incorporate not only a lower surface of the packaging for storage in an upright storage condition, but which also includes a concave/conical inner surface for the container portion, to facilitate accurate dosing so that all of the contents of the container have been accessed or used.

Thus, the present invention provides a container having a generally cylindrical body portion, with an open neck portion at the top for receiving a closure, or other dispensing apparatus such as a spray valve or dropper or the like. The bottom portion of the container is “V” shaped with an internal concave conical portion and an external conical portion. The internal apex portion of this cone shape allows removal of 100% of the container's contents, as for example by a straw in the event that the contents are liquid. A generally cylindrical base portion is provided for receiving the cone shaped bottom portion of the container, the base portion having an upper rim that defines an inwardly protecting annular rib. Finally, the body portion has an annular grove formed between it and the cone shaped bottom portion of the container for convenience in coupling the container with the base.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating the assembled container and base.

FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view illustrating the container and base prior to assembly or coupling of these components.

FIG. 3 is a sectional side elevational view of the container and base depicted in FIG. 1.

FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view through the container of FIG. 1.

FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view of the base of FIG. 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring now to the drawings in greater detail, the container/packaging of the present invention comprises two components, a container 1, and a base 2, each of which are made of a synthetic plastic material selected from the group comprising polyethylene, polypropylene, or PET (polyethylene terephthalate).

The container comprises a conventional top or neck portion having an opening through which the contents can be conveniently dispensed, or otherwise withdrawn from the container. The bottom portion of the container is of conical shape 3, facilitating the effective use of the entire contents of the container for the convenience and health of the user. Between the neck and the bottom portion of the container a cylindrical body portion is provided. The container side walls are flexible, and formed by blow molding, to allow manual squeezing when contents are withdrawn. It is a feature of the present invention that the juncture between the cylindrical body portion and the conical bottom portion of the container defines an annular groove 5, which groove is adapted to receive an internal annular rib 6 provided for this purpose in an upper rim portion of the base 2.

Thus, the conical portion 3 of the container nests within the base 2 as best shown in FIG. 3 such that the apex of the conical container portion lies in closely spaced relationship to the bottom wall 7 of the base. This bottom wall 7 is preferably contoured to assure that the base will be self-supporting, upright, on a flat surface by reason of the concave external surface of this bottom wall 7, again as best shown in FIG. 3.

In light of the above description it is therefore understood that within the scope of the appended claims the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically described.

Claims

1. A container and base assembly comprising:

a container having a generally cylindrical body portion, an open top neck portion for receiving a closure, and a closed cone-shaped bottom portion, said neck, body and bottom portions being integrally molded from a polymeric material; and
a generally cylindrical base for receiving said cylindrical body portion, said base having an upper rim portion defining an inwardly projecting annular rib; and
an annular grove formed between said body portion and said cone-shaped bottom portion of said container for coupling said container and base, and said body portion having the same cross sectional diameter and cross sectional outside size and shape as that of said generally cylindrical base.

2. The container and base assembly of claim 1, wherein said base is also formed from a polymeric material, being molded with a concave bottom wall so that the base supports the container on a bottom annular edge portion of said base.

3. The container and base assembly of claim 2, wherein said base and container are molded from a polymeric material selected from the following thermoplastic group: polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyethylene terephthalate.

4. The container and base assembly of claim 3, wherein said base is molded with a concave bottom wall so that the base is well adapted to support the container on an annular base lower edge of substantially the same external size shape and diameter is that of said cylindrical container body portion.

5. The container and base assembly of claim 1 wherein said polymeric material comprises a relatively thin-walled blow molded thermoplastic material exhibiting flexibility enough to allow squeezing of these thin container walls by the user.
