A defensive slide trainer has a plastic pipe cylinder suspended on an elastic band between two rubber washers and two Velcro nylon straps worn on the shoes of an athlete defensive slider with the plastic pipe spacer positioned between the feet by preventing the defensive sliders feet from coming together conditioning a wider stance.

This is the first U.S. Patent Application filed with the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a defensive slide trainer aid and more particularly to a multi-sport defensive slide trainer having a plastic pipe spacing cylinder, an elastic band or rubber tether, two Velcro nylon straps and two rubber washers.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a defensive slide trainer aid that is worn on each shoe of an athlete and is positioned between the legs of the user close to the ground or floor. The defensive slide trainer's plastic pipe cylinder develops a wider stance by forced spacing of the legs that stops a slider's feet from coming together thus keeping the slider's feet separated by specific measured lengths equal but not limited to the user's shoulder width and preferably between 152 mm to 762 mm in length.

The plastic pipe eliminates the chance of the defensive slider's feet from coming together. A defensive slide is a lateral movement of the legs by an athlete right or left or backwards moving in a diagonal pattern. The legs move in a wide stance with the lead leg being the leg that dictates the direction the athlete is going in. So to start a defensive slide the athlete pushes off with the opposite leg and propels the lead leg out sideways in the direction desired to cut-off the competition as the legs move in an outward wide stance like in a jumping jack. A defensive slide can be looked at as running sideways, but the key is to not let the feet come all the way together when the opposite foot pushes again for propulsion towards the direction of the slide and the lead leg.

The purpose of inventing this training device the defensive slide trainer is to condition athletes in the sport of basketball, football, baseball and any other sport where defensive slides are a part of the game for a wider defensive stance while defensive sliding for greater propulsion and defensive positioning.

Traditionally teaching athletes how to defensive slide properly has been a challenge for coaches because the athlete's feet come too close together and most of the time resulting in poor overall defense and the athlete tripping over their own feet. There are other products in the art and on the market that have similar resistance training components of the defensive slide trainer with their straps going around the ankles of the athletes, but none have created a system like in the defensive slide trainer invention of preventing the feet from coming together while defensive sliding and conditioning a wider stance by spacing the feet at a measurement preferably width of the shoulders of the wearer solving a problem that has not been solved until now by using a spacer which for all practical purposes for the defensive slide trainer invention a plastic pipe cylinder system that maintains accurate spacing of the feet for proper technique and performance of the defensive slide performed by the wearer of the defensive slide trainer invention. No other product has been invented until now that provides a combination of both forced spacing to the feet and resistance training to the legs. In addition the defensive slide trainer's straps are worn around the user's shoes which is also unique to support the spacing functionality of the defensive slide trainer's plastic pipe cylinder spacing the feet at ground level. The defensive slide trainer helps train the user to achieve a wider defensive stance while sliding and conditions muscles that are normally used the most while sliding due to the resistance training provided by the elastic band and foot spacing created by the plastic pipe cylinder, because for defense in any sport, the wider the defensive stance the better. Once the defensive slide trainer is taken off of the user the athlete will notice that defensive slides are easier, quicker and wider due to the combination of strength training and forced spacing to cut the competition off getting to the sweet spot first.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A multi-sport defensive slide trainer comprising of plastic piping at least 19 mm in diameter preferably 25.49 mm in diameter, at least 1.0 mm in thickness, and at least 152 mm in length, preferably 355.6 mm to 508 mm in length that is suspended between a users feet horizontally at ground level by an elastic band that is longer than the plastic pipe cylinder and threaded between the pipe exiting each opposite opening of the pipe so that the opposite ends of the elastic band can be affixed to two, 50 mm wide nylon straps with Velcro that are preferably 508 mm or longer in length by then threading the ends of the elastic band through a rubber washer on each end of the plastic pipe and then threaded through a grommet embedded into each strap then knotted to hold the pipe in place to be able to move and slide on and around the elastic band between each nylon strap that's worn around the width and under each users athletic shoes and worn in such a way that the users insoles where the arches of the feet are, is the junction of each side of the elastic band with the straps and where the plastic pipe cylinder lines up horizontally between the user's legs perpendicular to the users shoes. A method of defensive sliding is provided wherein the defensive slide trainer's plastic pipe cylinder is suspended around an elastic band and spaces the users legs and feet, preventing them from coming together while wearing the invented multi-sport defensive slide trainer.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

In the description that follows, when a preferred range, such as 5 to 25 (or 5-25) is given, this means preferably at least 5 and, separately and independently, preferably not more than 25. The same numerals illustrate the same elements in the different figures.

With reference to FIGS. 1-4, there is shown a multi-sport defensive slide trainer 10 having plastic piping that is preferably 152 mm-762 mm in length 2 preferably 25-50 mm in diameter threaded with an elastic band at least 457 mm or more in length 1 and padded on each opposite end of plastic pipe cylinder by a rubber washer 3 preferably 25-50 mm in diameter and 1.59 mm in thickness attached to two 508 mm long and 50 mm wide nylon straps 4 with a 50 mm wide plastic adjuster 5 one on each strap.

The plastic piping 2 is hollow, preferably 152 mm-762 mm in length and preferably 25-50 mm in diameter preferably of a durable plastic that can withstand impact without cracking preferably similar to PE or HDPE but not limited to this specific material and can be any color, able to withstand the impact between the users shoes while defensive sliding if impact occurs without cracking or bending. The elastic band 1 can be a round rubber high resistance band up to any diameter that will allow the plastic pipe to move freely around it but more preferably 19-25 mm in thickness or a flat low resistance band that's preferably 25-50 mm in width and preferably 12.7 mm or less in thickness, (see FIG. 2 where the pipe is shown in the cross section with elastic band inside and connected to nylon straps by method of knotting the ends of elastic band thru grommets embedded in nylon strap) The defensive slide trainer 10 can be stretched out beyond the length of the plastic piping providing resistance training, (see FIG. 3 where elastic band stretches out from plastic pipe). The defensive slide trainer 10 has Velcro nylon straps 4 that are worn around the shoes of the user and has two rubber washers 3 positioned between the ends of the plastic pipe and the nylon straps near the insole of user's feet and each side of the elastic band is knotted into the nylon straps, (see FIG. 4 where defensive slide trainer is worn and ready to be used for training).

With reference to FIG. 4, the plastic pipe when positioned properly is between, and perpendicular to the users feet and the Velcro nylon straps are worn around the width of the shoe fastened with plastic adjuster 5).

With reference to FIG. 4 also see elastic band 1 in a non-stretched position and plastic pipe cylinder 2 positioned to prevent the feet from coming together and ready to make impact with rubber washers 3 to cushion the impact of the defensive slider while sliding if user's feet comes too close together.

The defensive slide trainer is used by a defensive slider by wearing the Velcro nylon straps around each shoe with the plastic pipe cylinder positioned between and perpendicular to his feet at ground level while defensive sliding stretching the elastic band while lateral movement of legs going apart and then coming together to complete a defensive slide strengthening natural slide muscles through resistance training and trying to avoid letting the plastic pipe cylinder make impact with the insole of his shoes which forces him to keep a wide stance conditioning muscles for a wider defensive stance and quicker slide once the defensive slide trainer is taken off. The benefits are as described above.

Although the preferred embodiments have been described, various modifications may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as disclosed and claimed herein.

Claims

1. A multi-sport defensive slide trainer comprising a plastic pipe cylinder, two nylon straps with Velcro, an elastic band or rubber tether and two rubber washers where said linear measurement of plastic pipe cylinder is between 152 mm-762 mm in length.

2. The defensive slide trainer of claim 1, wherein said defensive slide trainer's plastic pipe cylinder is suspended on an elastic band between two rubber washers and two Velcro nylon straps.

3. The defensive slide trainer of claim 1, wherein said plastic pipe cylinder prevents the defensive sliders feet from coming together while sliding with the defensive slide trainer.

4. The defensive slide trainer of claim 1, wherein said elastic band is threaded through the plastic pipe cylinder, two rubber washers and two Velcro nylon straps.

5. The visor of claim 1, wherein said elastic band's ends are knotted once threaded through each Velcro nylon strap to hold the plastic cylinder in place between and perpendicular to the wearer's feet.

6. The defensive slide trainer of claim 1, wherein said elastic band provides resistance training to the legs conditioning muscles naturally used while defensive sliding.

7. The defensive slide trainer of claim 1, wherein said Velcro nylon straps are at least 50 mm wide and worn around the width of each shoe of the wearer while sliding wearing the defensive slide trainer.

8. A method of defensive sliding is provided wherein the defensive slide trainer's plastic pipe cylinder conditions a wider stance by training with the invented multi-sport defensive slide trainer.
