DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The contemporary necktie is a descendant of the French cravat, a tied neckband that came into fashion with European military uniforms in the 1630's. Two hundred years later, the British “four in hand” tie, quite similar to today's neckties, came into prominence, and ever since, the well-dressed businessman, or the man dressed for a ceremonial occasion, will generally be found wearing a necktie. While neckties may add a dash of color, dignity, and formality to a man's sartorial appearance, they also present a number of negative aspects, among which are an uncomfortable constriction about the neck; a strait-jacketed sense of over-formality; and, not least by any means, the difficulty of tying a proper knot. Given these negative connotations, many men eschew wearing ties completely; and others wear them only to weddings, funerals, and similar formal occasions. For these men, and for men who wear neckties every day, tying the perfect knot can be a challenge, and a pain. The invention to be described in this report is intended to eliminate the necessity of tying a perfect necktie knot.

Recognizing that most men will need to wear a necktie on either a regular or intermittent basis, a new product invention was developed. This invention is hereinafter referred to as “The Perfect Tie Knot.” Simply stated, The Perfect Tie Knot would be a preformed, triangular, perfectly “tied” knot, a sort of fabric-covered clasp in the form of a four-in-hand knot, which, when the necktie was pulled through it, would be indistinguishable from a perfect knot tied in the necktie itself. The Perfect Tie Knot can be marketed and sold in two distinct ways. In one embodiment, the device is sold along with a tie of matching material. In an alternative embodiment, The Perfect Tie Knot can be sold separately, and be sold in a variety of commonly used, solid colors. In either case, The Perfect Tie Knot can be constructed of injection-molded thermoplastic, then covered with the appropriate fabric for the tie being matched. Alternatively, The Perfect Tie Knot can be manufactured without a plastic form or liner, in fabric only. The Perfect Tie Knot may further comprise a clasp, and to wear it the user will follow several simple steps. Step 1 will be for the wearer to take The Perfect Tie Knot in his right hand, and his necktie in his left; now doubling the tie lengthwise, the user squeezes the top of the tie together. In Step 2, the user pulls the doubled top end of the tie up through The Perfect Tie Knot. As the tie moves up through the “knot,” the two sides of the tie form a loop, and this will fit around the wearer's head and neck in Step 3. Now, in Step 4, the user simply adjusts The Perfect Tie Knot as he prefers, either tightening or loosening the clasp or “knot.”

The Perfect Tie Knot, a pre-formed template in the form of a truncated cone forming a cup for receiving a necktie, creates the illusion of perfectly tied necktie knot. Foremost, of course, is the simple convenience that a man would enjoy in simply slipping his tie through the pre-formed, Perfect Tie Knot, then cinching his tie up comfortably, without having to fuss over—and frequently start over and tie again—his necktie. With The Perfect Tie Knot, a man would be assured of a smooth and impeccable appearance, every time. For youths who are not yet used to tying a proper necktie knot, or for older men in a hurry, the Perfect Tie Knot offers a great service. For the younger man, that service will be the knowledge that his tie is tied perfectly; for the older man, the savings in time. The Perfect Tie Knot, too, can be loosened or tightened to the wearer's comfort, and no one will recognize that the “knot” isn't real. Further, with The Perfect Tie Knot, the necktie itself will not be creased or stretched or otherwise damaged, as can happen when a necktie remains knotted too long. Thus, The Perfect Tie Knot would work to extend the life of a man's neckties. The Perfect Tie Knot, also, could be sold along with a new necktie, or sold in a variety of patterns and solid colors as an accessory to ties the wearer might already have.

A triangular, fabric-covered truncated cone in the shape of a perfectly constructed necktie knot, The Perfect Tie Knot provides a quick and easy means for any necktie-wearer to “achieve” a perfect necktie knot, every time. Extraordinarily useful yet eminently affordable, the Perfect Tie Knot will find a wide and enthusiastic market among men of all ages, both the habitual tie-wearers and the intermittent tie-wearers.

The Perfect Tie Knot is configured as a truncated cone which forms a cup for receiving the center of a necktie, and the necktie is pulled up through the cup forming a loop for receiving the neck of a wearer.

Although this invention has been described with respect to specific embodiments, it is not intended to be limited thereto and various modifications which will become apparent to the person of ordinary skill in the art are intended to fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as described herein taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and the appended claims.

Claims

1. A necktie knot comprising: a plastic cup in the form of a truncated cone for receiving a necktie, further comprising a clasp or hook for attaching to a shirt collar.
