Footed Baby Boy Long Underwear

A footed undergarment for babies and toddlers is disclosed. This one piece undergarment addresses the issue of the lack of leg coverings for little boys which can be worn under their pants. By making the undergarment as one piece with the feet attached ensures that the child will have his legs covered and warm when taken outside in the cold months. The undergarment consists of a body portion with an elastic waistband and pant leg openings, a rear panel to give a better fit over a diaper, a band of stretch fabric encircling the ankle and the attached feet consisting of a top, bottom and heel section.

RELATED APPLICATIONS

The present application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application 61/516,043 filed on Mar. 29, 2011 and entitled “Footed Baby Boy Long Underwear” to the same inventor.

FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to babies and toddlers, more specifically the invention is related to a footed undergarment to cover their legs which is worn under their clothes to keep their legs from being exposed in cold weather.

BACKGROUND

I thought of this invention after having my first grandson. During his first winter he was still a small baby so when he was taken out into the cold weather he was always in a one piece snowsuit or an infant outfit which included a top and footed pants that covered his feet. By his second winter, he was older and when he was taken out he would be wearing his outfit which included a jacket, pants, socks and shoes. The problem with this is we were always pulling his socks up and pulling down the bottom of his pant legs to cover his exposed bare legs. This was happening when he was being placed in his car seat, stroller or just being carried.

These footed outfits are plentiful when they are still infants but once they reach six months old there is no longer an option to keep their legs covered while wearing pants. While searching for something to resolve this issue there was nothing on the market for little boys, little girls have plenty of warm leggings, while little boys go around with cold red legs.

Some parents have even resorted to keeping their child's footed pajamas on under their pants, which is bulky and is uncomfortable for the child and prevents the child from wearing shoes. Wrapping a blanket around their legs is another option parents have tried but this is cumbersome and awkward, especially when the parent is juggling numerous things in their hands at the same time. Also, the problem with traditional insulated underwear that's on the market now is the same problem arises with the leg of the insulated underwear still rising up the child's legs and exposing their bare skin to cold weather. So, now the parents are not only pulling the child's pant leg down and the sock up, they now have to reach up the pant leg and pull the insulated underwear leg down also. It's an unending battle for parents of little boys.

Therefore, a real need exists for little boys to have an undergarment that covers their legs without rising up under their pants to prevent their legs from being exposed in winter months.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention provides a one piece undergarment that addresses the issue of the lack of footed leg coverings suitable for little boys. Oftentimes, you will see parents carrying their little boys and you will a see about a three inch gap between the top of the sock and the bottom of their pants due to their pant legs rising exposing the child's bare leg to the cold weather.

By making the undergarment as one piece with the feet attached solves this problem. The way the feet are secured to the undergarment is with a section of stretch fabric that is stitched to the bottom of the leg opening and also stitched to the top of the foot, this gives the resemblance of a sock being worn. This section of fabric encircles the ankle. So when the child is being carried it will look as if he's wearing socks and long johns and not leggings.

The front of the undergarment has a mock front fly panel which resembles a pair of adult male long johns. The back of the undergarment has a wide rear panel sewn into the body which starts under the waistband and narrows to meet the mock front fly panels at the crotch between the legs. This gives more room for a diaper to be worn and gives a more comfortable fit, also to keep the waist from riding down when the child is active. Both the front and rear panels have trim or a top stitch sewn in to outline and define them. The attached feet are made from three sections, which include a top, bottom and heel that are stitched together to form the foot. This gives a better fit and will be more comfortable when the child is wearing shoes.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 Illustrates the front view of the undergarment

FIG. 2 Illustrates the rear view of the undergarment

FIG. 3 Illustrates the side view of the foot, ankle and leg attachment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring now to the drawings; FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 illustrates the basic configuration of the footed undergarment embodying the elements of the present invention. The footed undergarment as shown in FIG. 1 generally comprises of a undergarment body including a pair of leg portions 102 that are fuller at the hip and narrows as the leg goes down to the ankle, a no roll elastic band at the top of the waist 104, a mock fly panel 106 consisting of a pair of cloth pieces that overlap to define the mock fly and goes down to meet at the crotch between the legs, the mock fly panel will have trim or a top stitch sewn in around the panel for added detail, a band of stretch fabric 108 secured by stitching to the bottom of the pant leg opening, the stretch fabric encircles the ankle with a width of two to three inches. This process will give the illusion that a sock is on the child. The band of stretch fabric may have an elastic strip sewn in to give a snugger fit. The attached feet 110 are stitched to the bottom of the band of stretch fabric that encircles the ankle.

FIG. 2 illustrates the back view and has a rear panel 202 sewn in at the center of the rear starting at under the waistband and narrowing as it goes down to meet the fly panel at the crotch between the legs. This will give the needed additional volume in the rear area to give a better fit over the diaper. The rear panel will resemble a flap and will have trim or a top stitch sewn in around the panel for added detail, the band of stretch fabric 206 encircles the ankle, 204 the no roll elastic waist band, the attached feet 208.

FIG. 3 illustrates the process of the foot being attached to the body of the undergarment, the construction of the sock portion 302 which includes three sections, a top section 304 that fits over the top front of the foot that starts at the toe and ends at the top of the foot at the ankle, a bottom section 306 that forms the sole of the foot, and a heel 308 section that starts at the bottom of the heel and ends at the top of the foot at the ankle, these sections are stitched together to form the entire foot. The foot is secured by stitching 310 to the bottom of the band of stretch fabric that encircles the ankle, the top of the stretch fabric at the ankle 312 is secured by stitching to the pant leg opening 314.

The present invention has been described in terms of specific embodiments incorporating details to facilitate the understanding of the construction of the invention. Still other embodiments of the present invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art that modifications can be made in the embodiment chosen for illustration without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Specifically, it will be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art that the device and method of the present invention could be implemented in several different ways and have several different appearances.
