Before the present invention is described in greater detail, it should be noted that directions used in the following description are exemplarily defined with reference to a user sitting on a sofa for facilitating the description.

Referring to FIGS. 2 to 5, the preferred embodiment of a modular furniture frame assembly of this invention is shown to be configured for an L-shaped sofa. The modular furniture frame assembly includes a first frame structure 10, and a second frame structure 20 disposed adjacent to and perpendicular to the first frame structure 10.

The first frame structure 10 includes a first seat frame member 1, a first top-mounted frame member 2 and a second top-mounted frame member 3 that are removably disposed on the first seat frame member 1 side by side with each other, and a side-mounted frame member 4 fastened removably to a right side of the first seat frame member 1. The first and second top-mounted frame members 2 and 3 serve as backrests, whereas the side-mounted frame member 4 serves as an armrest. The second frame structure 20 includes a second seat frame member 5 arranged at a left side of the first seat frame member 1, and a third top-mounted frame member 6 and a fourth top-mounted frame member 7 that are removably disposed on the second seat frame member 5 and that serve as backrests. The third top-mounted frame member 6 is disposed between the second and fourth top-mounted frame members 3 and 7, and is aligned with the first and second top-mounted frame members 2 and 3. The fourth top-mounted frame member 7 is disposed adjacent to and perpendicular to the third top-mounted frame member 6.

The first seat frame member 1 includes a rectangular frame 11, and a top frame part 12 having a top side 121 that is formed with a spaced apart pair of first slots 123 and a spaced apart pair of second slots 124. The rectangular frame 11 is constructed of a pair of first frame parts 111 disposed opposite to each other in a front-to-rear direction, a pair of second frame parts 113 disposed opposite to each other in a right-to-left direction and each interconnecting corresponding ends of the first frame parts 111, and a supporting beam 112 interconnecting the first frame parts 111 and being disposed between the second frame parts 113. Each of the second frame parts 113 is formed with three first assembling holes 114 at a rear side thereof and four second assembling holes 115 spaced apart from each other. The supporting beam 112 is configured for supporting the top frame part 12, and is formed with three third assembling holes 116 corresponding to the first assembling holes 114, respectively.

The first top-mounted frame member 2 includes a frame body 22, and a pair of spaced apart fastening components 23. The frame body 22 includes a spaced apart pair of upright frame parts 24 having confronting inner surfaces 21, and the fastening components 23 are fastened to the inner surfaces 21, respectively. Each of the fastening components 23 includes an upper leaf 231 fastened to a corresponding one of the inner surfaces 21, a lower leaf 232 pivotally connected to the upper leaf 231 and formed with four through holes 233, and a plurality of top-mounted frame member 2 is separated from the first seat frame member 1, the lower leaf 232 can be pivoted upwardly so that the lower leaf 232 can be stored in the frame body 22 adjacent to the upper leaf 231.

Since the configuration of the second top-mounted frame member 3 is similar to that of the first top-mounted frame 2, details thereof will be omitted herein for the sake of brevity. The second top-mounted frame member 3 includes a pair of spaced apart fastening components 33 fastened thereto.

The side-mounted frame member 4 is formed with four mounting holes 41 corresponding to the second assembling holes 115 in one of the second frame parts 113, respectively. The side-mounted frame member 4 is fastened removably to a desired one of the second frame parts 113 using four screws 42 extending through the mounting holes 41 and the second assembling holes 115 in the desired one of the second frame parts 113, respectively.

Regarding the second frame structure 20, since the configuration of the third and fourth top-mounted frame members 6 and 7 is similar to that of the first top-mounted frames 2, and since the configuration of the second seat frame member 5 is similar to that of the first seat frame member 1, details thereof will also be omitted herein for the sake of brevity. The second seat frame member 5 includes a top side 51 formed with a spaced apart pair of third slots 125, a spaced apart pair of fourth slots 126, and a spaced apart pair of fifth slots 127. The third top-mounted frame member 6 includes a pair of spaced apart fastening components 63 fastened thereto, and the fourth top-mounted frame member 7 includes a pair of spaced apart fastening components 73 fastened thereto. The third slots 125 are configured for removable assembly of the third top-mounted frame member 6, and the pair of the fourth slots 126 and the pair of the fifth slots 127 are both configured for removable assembly of the fourth top-mounted frame member 7.

For example, when it is desired to assemble the modular furniture frame assembly, the side-mounted frame member 4 is fastened removably to a right one of the second frame parts 113 of the first seat frame member 1. The lower leaf 232 of each of the fastening components 23 is pivoted downwardly, is exposed out of the frame body 22, and is extended downwardly and removably through a respective one of the first slots 123 in the top side 121 of the first seat frame member 1. The lower leaf 232 can be fastened to a respective one of the inner surfaces 21 of the frame body 22 using a screw (not shown) extending through an uppermost one of the through holes 233 into the corresponding one of the inner surfaces 21. The lower leaf 232 of one of the fastening components (e.g., the right one) is fastened removably to a corresponding one of the second frame parts 113 (e.g., the right one) using the fasteners 234 extending through lower three of the through holes 233 and the first assembling holes 114 in the corresponding one of the second frame parts 113. The lower leaf 232 of the other one of the fastening components 23 (e.g., the left one) is fastened removably to the supporting beam 112 using the fasteners 234 extending through lower three of the through holes 233 and the third assembling holes 114 in the supporting beam 112. Thus, structural strength of the modular furniture frame assembly is improved. Further, the first seat frame member 1 and the first top-mounted frame member 2 can be furnished with cushions for the purpose of comfort.

Then, in a manner similar to that mentioned above, the fastening components 33 of the second top-mounted frame member 3 are removably extended through the second slots 124 and are removably fastened to the left one of the second frame parts 113 and the supporting beam 112, respectively, so as to removably fasten the second top-mounted frame member 3 to the first seat frame member 1. Also, the fastening components 63 of the third top-mounted frame member 6 are removably extended through the third slots 125 and are removably fastened to the second seat frame member 5, and the fastening components 73 of the fourth top-mounted frame member 7 are removably extended through the fifth slots 127 and are removably fastened to the second seat frame member 5. It should be noted that the fastening components 63 of the third top-mounted frame member 6 both are removably fastened to an opposite pair of frame parts 52 (see FIG. 2) of the second seat frame member 5.

Referring to FIG. 6, the modular furniture frame assembly of this embodiment can be assembled into a different configuration. The side-mounted frame member 4 is removably fastened to the left one of the second frame parts 113 of the first seat frame member 1. The second frame structure 20 is arranged at the right side of the first frame structure 10. The second seat frame member 5 is adjacent to the right one of the second frame parts 113 of the first seat frame member 1, and the fourth top-mounted frame member 7 is mounted on the second seat frame member 5 through the fourth slots 126.

In summary, the fastening components 23 of the first top-mounted frame member 2 are configured to be removably extended through the first slots 123, respectively, and the lower leaf 232 of each of the fastening components 23 can be removably fastened to the rectangular frame 11 of the first seat frame member 1. Therefore, the first top-mounted frame member 2 is stably and removably mounted on the first seat frame member 1. Further, the first top-mounted frame member 2 can be removed from the first seat frame member 1 by releasing the lower leaf 232 from the frame 11. Accordingly, the modular furniture frame assembly of this invention occupies a relatively small space during transportation and storage.

While the present invention has been described in connection with what is considered the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is understood that this invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiment but is intended to cover various arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and equivalent arrangements.
