CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

Relevant subject matter is disclosed in a pending U.S. patent application, titled “MOUNTING DEVICE FOR FAN”, filed on Apr. 2, 2012, with the application Ser. No. 13/437,025, which is assigned to the same assignee as this patent application.

BACKGROUND

1. Technical Field

The present disclosure relates to a device for mounting fans, and a fan assembly using such a device.

2. Description of Related Art

Large electronic devices use fans to cool electronic components. A fan is often mounted in the electronic device by a plurality of screws, which makes it difficult and time-consuming to replace or remove the fan for repair.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Many aspects of the present embodiments can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the present embodiments. Moreover, in the drawings, all the views are schematic, and like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

FIG. 1 is a partially exploded, isometric view of an exemplary embodiment of a mounting device, together with a plurality of fans.

FIG. 2 is a partially assembled view of the mounting device and the fans of FIG. 1.

FIG. 3 is an assembled, isometric view of the mounting device and the fans of FIG. 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The disclosure, including the accompanying drawings, is illustrated by way of example and not by way of limitation. It should be noted that references to “an” or “one” embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.

Referring to FIG. 1, an exemplary embodiment of a mounting device for mounting a plurality of fans 50 includes a bottom wall 10, a plurality of bases 20, and a plurality of fasteners 30.

Each fan 50 includes two spaced boards 52. Each board 52 defines two corner holes 54 in a lower portion.

The bottom wall 10 forms a plurality of pairs of rods 100 each having a tapered top end.

Each base 20 includes a rectangular plate 22, two first protrusions 24 extending up from a front side of the plate 22, two second protrusions 26 extending up from a rear side of the plate 22, and two fixing pieces 28 extending out from the front and rear sides of the plate 26. Each first protrusion 24 defines a through hole 240. Each second protrusion 26 defines a threaded hole 262. Each fixing piece 28 defines a fixing hole 280 extending through a top surface and a bottom surface of the fixing piece 28.

Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, in assembling each fan 10 to a corresponding base 20, the boards 52 are perpendicularly supported on the plate 22. The lower portion of one of the boards 52 abuts against inner surfaces of the first protrusions 24, and the corner holes 54 are aligned with the corresponding through holes 240. The lower portion of the other board 52 abuts against inner surfaces of the second protrusions 26, and the corner holes 54 are aligned with the corresponding threaded holes 262. Two fasteners 30 extend through the corresponding through holes 240 and the corresponding corner holes 54, to engage in the corresponding threaded holes 262. Therefore, the fan 10 is fixed on the base 20.

The base 20 together with the fan 10 is then put on the bottom wall 10. The fixing holes 280 tightly fit about two corresponding rods 12, to mount the base 20 together with the fan 50 to the bottom wall 10.

It is believed that the present embodiments and their advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and various changes may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the description or sacrificing all of their material advantages, the examples hereinbefore described merely being exemplary embodiments.
