GOLF ACCESSORY POUCH

Abstract

A golf accessory pouch (10) includes first and second layers (14, 16) of material. A clip (12) is affixed to the first layer of material for attaching the pouch to the belt (B) or waistband of pants or shorts worn by a golfer. First and second accessory pouches (22, 24) on the outer face of the second layer of material are for storing a ball marker (M) and a divot repair tool (D). A tee holder 26 also on the outer face of the second layer of material holds tees (T) used by the golfer to tee a golf ball. A flap (30) fits over the outer face of the second layer of material, and the first and second layers of material together form a pocket (20) for storing golf balls (B).

Description

REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application is based upon and claims the benefit of U.S. provisional patent application 61/723,999 filed Nov. 8, 2012.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to a pouch which can be attached to a golfer's belt and which carries such items as golf balls, tees, a ball marker, and a divot tool for easy access by a golfer during a round of play.

Slow play during a round of golf is a constant source of frustration to golfers. One cause of slow play is a golfer having to search in his bag or pants' pockets for a tee when standing on the tee at the start of a hole, finding a golf ball to be put in play, a divot tool to repair an indentation make in the surface of a green when a ball lands on the green, or a ball marker the player uses to identify the location on a green where his ball has stopped; especially when the ball is in the line of play for someone who is going to make the next shot. While these delays may be piddling, over the course of a round they can substantially increase the time required to play it. A convenient place for a golfer to store these items and which allows him ready access to them would therefore be beneficial.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present disclosure is directed to a golf accessory pouch. The pouch is made of lightweight, flexible materials and is readily attached to a belt worn by golfers. The pouch provides convenient storage for items the golfer routinely needs or uses during his round. Among these items are golf balls, tees, a divot repair tool, and a ball marker.

The accessory pouch is conveniently sized to not only store these items but also make them easy to access or reach when needed. The pouch carries or stores at least one of each item, but can, for example, hold multiple balls and tees.

The pouch has a flap which fits over the top and sides of the storage spaces for the items for the items to not inadvertently fall out when the golfer turns, leans, or bends.

Finally, the pouch is low cost, readily stored in a golf bag when not being worn, and is easily attached to and removed from the golfer's belt.

Other objects and features will be in part apparent and in part pointed out hereinafter.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION

The following detailed description illustrates the invention by way of example and not by way of limitation. This description clearly enables one skilled in the art to make and use the invention, and describes several embodiments, adaptations, variations, alternatives and uses of the invention, including what is presently believed to be the best mode of carrying out the invention. Additionally, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and the arrangement of components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or carried out in various ways. Also, it will be understood that the phraseology and terminology used herein is for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

Referring to FIG. 1, a golfer G wears pants or shorts (not shown) when he or she plays golf. Typically the pants or shorts are held up by a belt B, although some pants and shorts do not require a belt. A golf accessory pouch 10 of the present invention clips to the belt. As shown in FIG. 3, pouch 10 has one or more clips 12 on its backside (only one clip being shown in FIG. 3) for clipping the pouch to the belt. It will be understood by those skilled in the art that even if the pants or shorts have no associated belt, pouch 10 is still clipped in place by fitting the clip over the waistband of the pants or shorts being worn by the golfer.

Pouch 10 is made of leather, or a flexible polyester or other material which generally holds its shape while the golfer is walking, riding in a cart, or playing a shot. The golfer clips the pouch to his or her belt or waistband prior to starting a round and removes it at the end of the round. The pouch is of a size as to be readily stored in a pocket of a golf bag, or the player can store in the trunk of their car or locker.

Referring to FIG. 3, pouch 10 has an inner layer 14 of material and an outer layer 16 of material. The clip or clips are attached to the inner layer of material. Layers 18 of material (only one of which is shown in FIG. 3) attach the inner and outer layers together, a layer 18 of material extending between the inner and outer layers along opposite sides of the inner and outer layers. As shown in FIG. 3, a layer 18 of material is wider at its upper end than at its lower end, so to form an expandable pocket 20 for holding golf balls B, for example. Pocket 20 is open at both its upper and lower ends; although the lower end of the pocket can be closed. In addition to the golf balls, a marker pen MP, commonly referred to as a “Sharpie®” is also stored in the pocket.

Located on the outer face of material layer 16 are two generally rectangular shaped pockets 22 and 24. Pocket 22 is for storage of a ball marker M and pocket 24 for a divot repair tool D. While the pockets are shown one above the other in FIG. 2, other arrangements of the positions of the pockets can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.

Extending vertically along one side of the outer face of layer 16 is a strip 26 of an elastic material. This material is sewn to layer 16 at spaced intervals so to form horizontal openings 28. Golf tees T are inserted into these openings for ready access by the golfer when he or she gets ready to hit a tee shot.

Referring again to FIG. 3, a flap 30 extends from the upper end of outer layer 16, and down over the front of the layer. As shown in FIG. 2, a velcro® strip 32 is affixed to the lower end of the front face of layer 16. A similar strip (not shown) is affixed to the lower, inner end of the flap for the flap to be secured over the front of pouch 10. When the flap is closed, it prevents a tee, the ball marker, or divot repair tool from falling out of the pouch and being lost.

Golf accessory pouch 10 provides a convenient storage place for those items (golf balls, tees, ball marker, divot repair tool) routinely used by a golfer during a round so they are readily accessible to the golfer and he or she does not have to spend an inordinate amount of time looking for them.

In view of the above, it will be seen that the several objects and advantages of the present disclosure have been achieved and other advantageous results have been obtained.

Claims

1. A golf accessory pouch comprising:

a first layer of material and a second layer of material;

at least one clip affixed to the first layer of material for attaching the pouch to the belt or waistband of pants or shorts worn by a golfer;

a first and a second accessory pouch on an outer face of the second layer of material for a ball marker to be stored in one of the accessory pouches and for a divot repair tool to be stored in the other accessory pouch; and,

a tee holder on the outer face of the second layer of material for holding tees used by the golfer to tee a golf ball.

2. The golf accessory pouch of claim 1 further including a flap fitting over the outer face of the second layer of material.

3. The golf accessory pouch of claim 1 in which the first and second layers together form a pocket for storing golf balls.

4. The golf accessory pouch of claim 3 for carrying and storing at least one of each item, including a plurality of golf balls and tees
