V SLOT FLOW

Exhaust pipe or exhaust stack 3a extending vertical from the trucks diesel engine is modified with a slot to reduce back pressure. This pressure reduction enables the engine to operate more efficiently resulting in improved fuel economy.

Description
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

This invention relates to a slot that can be manufactured in the upper portion of the exhaust stack or be retro fitted to existing stacks already in use.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

A slot, which is a cut and an indention, in the upper outter curve of the exhaust stack enables air to be introduced into the stack while the diesel truck is moving forward. This creates a suction which pulls the exhaust from the engines stacks. The indention in the slot, manufacturedly pressed inward, narrows the passage of exhaust in the curved portion of the stack. The exhaust enters this narrowed passage and accelerates. This acceleration of exhaust flow is resultant of Bernoulli's Principle.

The two actions help reduce back pressure enabling the diesel engine to operate more efficiently and this will improve fuel economy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 shows the side view of the exhaust stack. The V Slot is illustrated from the side FIG. 1c and 1e. Truck vehicle movement illustrated 1b creates air flow 1c combined with exhaust flow gases 1a mixed and exits 1d.

FIG. 2 is the front view of exhaust stack. FIG. 2 illustrates exhaust entry 2a from the diesel engine and entry of air flow into the forward facing exhaust stack 2b.

FIG. 3 is the front view of the diesel truck. In FIG. 3 the V Slot is illustrated 3a by the two arrows pointing to V Slots located on the front of the exhaust stacks.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF FIRST EMBODIMENT

Referring to FIG. 1, FIG. 2, FIG. 3 of the drawings. The V SLOT is manufactured with a reference line drawn on the forward facing stack (1c, 2c, 3a) as a guide to cut a line or incision into the exhaust stack. The location of this line is centered opposite side of the inside apex 1g and centered on the forward facing middle of the exhaust stack 2c.

The cut line (1c and 2c) will be a length of five inches centered on the forward facing stack 2c for a five inch diameter exhaust stack. This portion of material 1c is pressed down one and three quarters of an inch (1.75).

  • The V SLOT is formed by this action which creates a narrowed passage inside the pipe or stack if. A low pressure area is created (Bernoulli's Principle) which helps accelerate the exhaust gases along with air flow 1c, creating a suction affect.

A four inch diameter exhaust stack will have a four inch reference line as a guide to cut a line or incision into the exhaust stack (1c and 2c).

  • This portion of material is pressed down to one inch to form the V SLOT. Same effect and procedures as in paragraph [0009].

The V SLOT can be manufactured to a different size exhaust stacks with different measurements and there for practiced other than specifically described.

Claims

1. The V SLOT creates less back pressure in the exhaust stack. This is accomplish-by creating a suction and a low pressure in the exhaust stack.

2. The suction of claim 1 is created when the truck vehicle is traveling forward faster than the exhaust gases are flowing inside the exhaust stack prior to the V SLOT. The vehicle moving forward 60 mph exceeds the exhaust gases flowing 20 mph inside the exhaust stack. This excess air flow (40 mph) thru the V SLOT helps extract or suck the exhaust gases out.

3. The low pressure of claim 1 is created when the exhaust gases travel thru the narrowed exhaust stack. This narrowed portion is formed by the V SLOT at the inner apex of the exhaust stack's curve. This creates a low pressure (gases flowing thru) area in relation to the outside atmospheric pressure. (Bernoulli's Principle) This accelerates the exhaust gases reducing back pressure which contributes to better fuel economy.
