GUN STOCK HOLDER

A gun stock holder is provided. The gun stock holder includes an outer wall having a bottom rim formed to support the gun stock holder in an upright position when resting on a surface. An inner wall meets the outer wall at a top rim and is disposed within the outer wall. The inner wall forms an internal cavity in between. The internal cavity has an oval shape and is sized to snugly receive a buttstock of a rifle or shotgun.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 62/050,537, filed Sep. 15, 2014, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a gun stock holder and, more particularly, to a portable gun stock holder for securing rifles.

When leaning a rifle against a wall, the rifle may tip over and fall. In some instances, the rifle may discharge when hitting the ground causing a dangerous situation.

As can be seen, there is a need for a portable gun stock holder for securing rifles.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In one aspect of the present invention, a gun stock holder comprises: an outer wall comprising a bottom rim formed to support the gun stock holder in an upright position when resting on a surface; and an inner wall meeting the outer wall at a top rim and disposed within the outer wall forming an internal cavity having an oval shape and sized to snugly receive a buttstock of a rifle.

In another aspect of the present invention, a method of mounting a gun comprises: providing a gun stock holder comprising: an outer wall comprising a bottom rim; and an inner wall meeting the outer wall at a top rim and disposed within the outer wall forming an internal cavity having an oval shape; placing the bottom rim on a surface; and placing a buttstock of a rifle within the internal cavity.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

The present invention includes a gun stock holder providing a surface for the butt of a rifle or shotgun to rest in for additional stability. Gun stock holder may be freestanding, i.e. standing alone. Therefore, the gun stock holder may be easily transported and placed in duck blinds, tree stands, flooded timber, and the like. Further, the present invention may be used at gun shops to showcase individual guns. The present invention may be made of plastic and formed by injection molding or 3d printing. However, the present invention is not limited to plastic and may be made of wood or a metal.

Referring to FIGS. 1 through 7, the present invention includes a gun stock holder 10. The gun stock holder 10 includes an outer wall having a bottom rim formed to support the gun stock holder 10 in an upright position when resting on a surface 26. An inner wall meets the outer wall at a top rim and is disposed within the outer wall. The inner wall forms an internal cavity 12 in between. The internal cavity 12 has an oval shape and is sized to snugly receive a buttstock 30 of a rifle or shotgun 28.

In certain embodiments, the gun stock holder 10 includes a bottom surface 14. The bottom surface 14 is formed at a bottom edge of the inner wall and is elevated above the bottom rim of the outer wall. The buttstock 30 may rest against the bottom surface 14. The bottom surface 14 may include a plurality of strap slots 18 formed therethrough. At least one mounting hole boss 38 may be secured to the bottom surface with a mounting hole 24 therethrough. For example, the present invention may include two mounting hole bosses 38. A fastener 32 may be driven through the mounting hole 24 and into the surface 26, thereby fastening the gun stock holder 10 to the surface 26.

In certain embodiments, the outer wall may include a pair of end slots 20 formed at opposite ends of a length of the gun stock holder 10. The outer wall may further include at least one drainage hole 22 formed through the bottom rim, preventing build up from forming within the bottom rim. In certain embodiments, a plurality of anti slip pegs 16 are secured about the entire bottom rim. The anti slip pegs 16 may provide additional grip to the gun stock holder.

The present invention may further include a magnetic gun holder 34. The magnetic gun holder 34 may include a concave slot formed to receive the barrel of the rifle 28. The magnetic element may attract and retain the barrel within the concave slot. The magnetic gun holder 34 may be fastened to a vertical surface 36 above the gun stock holder 10. The buttstock 30 may be placed within the gun stock holder 10 and the barrel may be retained by the magnetic gun holder 34, thereby safely securing the rifle in a stowed position.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.

Claims

1. A gun stock holder comprising:

an outer wall comprising a bottom rim formed to support the gun stock holder in an upright position when resting on a surface; and
an inner wall meeting the outer wall at a top rim and disposed within the outer wall forming an internal cavity having an oval shape and sized to snugly receive a buttstock of a rifle.

2. The gun stock holder of claim 1, further comprising a bottom surface formed at a bottom edge of the inner wall, wherein the bottom surface is elevated above the bottom rim of outer wall.

3. The gun stock holder of claim 2, wherein a plurality of strap slots are formed through the bottom surface.

4. The gun stock holder of claim 2, further comprising at least one mounting hole boss secured to the bottom surface and comprising a mounting hole therethrough.

5. The gun stock holder of claim 4, wherein the at least one mounting hole boss is a first mounting hole boss and a second mounting hole boss.

6. The gun stock holder of claim 1, wherein the outer wall comprises an end slot sized to receive a strap.

7. The gun stock holder of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of anti slip pegs secured to the bottom rim.

8. The gun stock holder of claim 1, further comprising a magnetic gun holder operable to releasable retain the barrel of the rifle.

9. A method of mounting a gun comprising:

providing a gun stock holder comprising: an outer wall comprising a bottom rim; and an inner wall meeting the outer wall at a top rim and disposed within the outer wall forming an internal cavity having an oval shape;
placing the bottom rim on a surface; and
placing a buttstock of a rifle within the internal cavity.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the gun stock holder comprises a bottom surface formed at a bottom edge of the inner wall, wherein the bottom surface is elevated above the bottom rim of outer wall.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the bottom surface further comprises at least one mounting hole boss secured to the bottom surface and comprising a mounting hole therethrough

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising the step of drilling a fastener through the mounting hole and into the surface.
