METHOD FOR REPAIRING HAIR EXTENSIONS

Abstract

A soft material such as silk, cotton or polyester is wrapped or otherwise affixed to the weft of an existing hair extension to enhance the hair extension and to eliminate discomfiture associated with the weft, itself. The soft material is attached to the weft by machine sewing or the like, the so-enhanced extension is then attached to a user's hair or weave cap via a weave hat.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention pertains to hair extensions. Even more particularly, the present invention pertains to means and methods for enhancing hair extensions.

2. Prior Art

As is known to those skilled in the art to which the present invention contains hair extensions are widely utilized, amongst both men and women. Typically, hair extensions are secured either directly to the user's weave cap via a weave hat or secured to the user's hair. The attachment can be effected through gluing, sewing or various other means and methods.

The utilization of hair extensions has been recorded in the prior art, for example, U.S. Pat. Nos. 8,578,946 and 7,343,921 as well as U.S. Patent Publication Nos. 2013/0133680; 2009/0032041 and 2008//0178902.

However, as is known to the users, the present day hair extensions are often abrasive and damaging to the hair and scalp of the users.

The present invention, as will be fully described enables an enhancement to hair extensions which alleviates the damage to the hair and scalp as well as extending the longevity of the extension, itself.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Now, and with reference to the drawing there is depicted therein a hair extension, generally, denoted at 10.

As is known to those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains hair extensions typically comprise a plurality of hair strands 12 which may comprise natural hair, synthetic hair or the like.

The extension includes a weft 14. The weft 14, generally, comprises a planar member or base 16 having a plurality of apertures 18 provided along the extent thereof.

Ordinarily, the hair strands 12 are looped through the apertures or otherwise secured thereto either by gluing, knotting or the like which fixes the strands in position. Alternatively, the strands affixed to the weft directly by sewing or gluing without the looping through apertures. These techniques for attaching the hair strands are well known to the skilled artisan.

As noted above, the wefts 14 typically are secured to either the weave cap or the hair of the user by any suitable means, such as sewing, gluing or the like.

In accordance herewith a hair extension is enhanced by wrapping a soft material 20 about the weft 14.

The soft material 20 can comprise any suitable fabric, such as a cotton sheet, a polyester sheet, a silk sheet, satin finish material or any other soft material. The material 20 is adhered to the existing base 16 or the weft 14 by any suitable means. Preferably, the material or fabric 20 is secured to the base 16 by machine sewing it to the base 16.

By providing a soft material and re-affixing the extension either directly to the weave cap or the user's hair, the discomfiture and abrasiveness of the existing weft is eliminated.

The present method is practiced by: (a) wrapping the material 20 about the weft 14 of an extension prior to attaching it to the user's hair or via a weave cap; (c) sewing the material 20 to the weft base 16; and (d) securing the so-wrapped weft 14 to the weave cap or the hair of the user by any of the aforementioned described methods.

In attaching the material, as noted, it is preferred that it be attached by machine sewing. It has been observed that by so-wrapping the material, the extension has more durability and improved longevity. In addition it prevents the weft from fraying while reducing hair shedding attributable to normal and tear of existing extensions.

When enhancing an extension, the soft material is secured to the weft after the extension is manufactured. Enhancement is a post-manufacture procedure.

The soft material eliminates the discomfiture and abrasiveness typically associated with the existing wefts used in hair extensions.

Claims

1. In a method for improving the softness of an unused hair extension, the extension being of the type comprising a weft and a plurality of hair strands secured thereto, the improvement which comprises:

wrapping a soft material about the weft of the unused extension, the soft material being a different material than that of the weft, the soft material being selected from the group consisting of cotton, polyester, and silk; and

securing the soft material to the weft.

3. The improvement of claim 1 wherein the soft material is silk.

The improvement of claim 1 wherein: the weft includes a planar base, the base having a plurality of apertures through which hair strands project, the soft material having openings therein which are in registry associated with openings in the base to permit hair strands to remain in position through respective openings in the weft.

5. The improvement of claim 1 which further comprises:

wrapping the extension with the soft material prior to attachment to a user's head.
