MAGNETIC SEAT CUSHION

Ferromagnetic Furniture is provided. The furniture may include a chair and a seat cushion. The seat cushion includes an inner casing having an upper surface and a lower surface. A padding is disposed in between the upper surface and the lower surface. The padding may be at least one of a foam padding and a filling material. A plurality of magnets are disposed on the lower surface of the inner casing. The seat cushion secures to the chair via the magnets.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application number 62/172,329, filed Jun. 8, 2015, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a seat cushion and, more particularly, to a magnetic seat cushion.

Currently, outdoor seat cushions come with tie fasteners that need to be tied into a knot to attach the cushions to chairs or other furniture. Each cushion contains at least two sets of ties to be knotted. To do this, one has to bend down and prepare the knots all around the chairs. When the seat pads need to be removed, again these knots have to be untied. Tying and untying knots is cumbersome and time consuming.

As can be seen, there is a need for a cushion that easily attaches to any ferromagnetic outdoor seat.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In one aspect of the present invention, an apparatus comprises: a seat cushion comprising: an inner casing comprising an upper surface and a lower surface; a padding disposed in between the upper surface and the lower surface; and a plurality of magnets disposed on the lower surface of the inner casing.

In another aspect of the present invention, a method of securing a seat cushion to a chair comprises: providing the seat cushion comprising an inner casing comprising an upper surface and a lower surface, a padding disposed in between the upper surface and the lower surface, and at least one magnet disposed on the lower surface of the inner casing; providing the chair comprising a seat comprising a ferromagnetic material; and placing the lower surface of the seat cushion onto the seat.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

Referring to FIGS. 1 through 3, the present invention includes a furniture 10. The furniture 10 may include a chair 12 and a seat cushion 16. The seat cushion 16 includes an inner casing 24 having an upper surface and a lower surface. A padding 22 is disposed in between the upper surface and the lower surface. The padding 22 may be at least one of a foam padding and a filling material, such as a polyester fiber filling. At least one magnet 20, such as plurality of magnets 20, are disposed on the lower surface of the inner casing 24.

The chair 12 of the present invention may include a back, a seat 14, arm rests and a plurality of legs. The chair 12 of the present invention may be an outdoor type chair. However, the present invention is not limited to outdoor use and may include other types of furniture. The chair 12 of the present invention may be made of a ferromagnetic material. For example, the chair 12 may be made of steel, iron and the like. In certain embodiments, the seat 14 is made of the ferromagnetic material. Therefore, when the lower surface of the seat cushion 16 is placed on the seat, the seat cushion 16 releasably secured to the seat 14.

In certain embodiments, the plurality of magnets 16 are a plurality of neodymium magnets. The present invention may include about three up to about eight magnets 16, such as about five or six magnets 16. The plurality of magnets 16 may be stitched or glued to the lower surface of the inner casing 24. For example, the present invention may include a plurality of polymer covers 21 stitched to the lower surface of the inner casing 24 by stitching 26. The plurality of magnets 16 may be disposed in between the polymer covers 21 and the lower surface. The polymer covers 21 may protect the magnets from the rain and protect the magnets from becoming desensitized. The polymer covers 21 may be made of a plastic, such as polyvinyl chloride, polyethelene, polypropylene and the like.

The present invention may further utilize a cover 18. The seat cushion 16 may be disposed within the cover 18. The cover 18 may protect the seat cushion 16 from the elements. In certain embodiments, the cover 18 may be removeable. For example, an opening may be formed leading into the cover 18.

A zipper 28 may be operable to open and close the opening. Other connectors, such as buttons, snap buttons, clips and the like may also be used in place of the zipper 28. Therefore, a user may open the cover 18 and remove the seat cushion 16. The seat cushion 16 and the cover 18 may then be washed and cleaned.

The present invention may further include a method of securing a seat cushion to a chair. The method may include providing the seat cushion mentioned above, providing the chair mentioned above, and placing the lower surface of the seat cushion onto the seat of the chair. The magnets of the seat cushion attract to the ferromagnetic material. Therefore, the cushion is secured to the top surface of the seat of the chair. The present invention may be used with patio chair cushions, back rests, chaise lounge cushions, indoor dining chair cushions, patio bench cushions, love seat cushions, swing cushions, glider cushions, stadium bleacher cushions and the like.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a seat cushion comprising: an inner casing comprising an upper surface and a lower surface; a padding disposed in between the upper surface and the lower surface; and
a plurality of magnets disposed on the lower surface of the inner casing.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a chair comprising a seat comprising a ferromagnetic material, wherein the plurality of magnets is attracted to the ferromagnetic material.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of magnets are stitched to the lower surface of the inner casing.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, further comprising a plurality of polymer covers stitched to the lower surface, wherein the plurality of magnets are disposed in between the plurality of polymer covers and the lower surface.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the polymer covers are plastic.

6. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the polymer covers are polyvinyl chloride.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a cover, wherein the seat cushion is disposed within the cover.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the cover further comprises a zipper operable to open and close an opening leading into the cover.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the padding comprises at least one of a foam padding and a filing material.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of magnets are a plurality of neodymium magnets.

11. A method of securing a seat cushion to a chair comprising:

providing the seat cushion comprising an inner casing comprising an upper surface and a lower surface, a padding disposed in between the upper surface and the lower surface, and at least one magnet disposed on the lower surface of the inner casing;
providing the chair comprising a seat comprising a ferromagnetic material; and
placing the lower surface of the seat cushion onto the seat.
