Description
FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY

The present disclosure relates generally to cosmetic applications, and, more particularly, to makeup stencils and kits.

BACKGROUND

A makeup stencil serves as a guide for applying makeup, e.g., an eyeliner. Such makeup stencils include a plurality of cutouts having a pre-defined shape for applying makeup.

SUMMARY

The present disclosure, in part, is directed to makeup stencils and kits that address certain of the limitations of conventional approaches for applying makeup, particularly, an eyeliner. In conventional processes, applying a substantially symmetric makeup can be difficult or cumbersome. For example, the user may apply makeup on each eye, and then make adjustments to achieve a substantially symmetric shape. This process may be time-consuming, particularly, if the user needs to repeatedly make incremental adjustments to the makeup. Moreover, if the user has slightly asymmetric facial features, the user may wish to account for this and make suitable adjustments to achieve a substantially symmetric makeup relative to the facial features, which can further be time-consuming. Thus, there has developed a need for a makeup stencil that can make applying a substantially symmetric makeup quick, reliable, and user-friendly.

One non-limiting aspect of the present disclosure is directed to a makeup stencil including a surface defining an outer region, a plurality of cutouts in the outer region, and at least one indicium located about a periphery of the outer region between a pair of the plurality of cutouts. Each cutout is so dimensioned for application of a makeup therethrough.

Another non-limiting aspect of the present disclosure is directed to a makeup kit including a packaging tray and a makeup stencil removably coupled to the packaging tray. The makeup stencil includes a surface defining an outer region, a plurality of cutouts in the outer region, and at least one indicium located about a periphery of the outer region between a pair of the plurality of cutouts. Each cutout is so dimensioned for application of a makeup therethrough.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Embodiments of the present disclosure are described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. The same or similar components may be designated by the same or similar reference numerals although they are illustrated in different drawings. Detailed descriptions of constructions or processes known in the art may be omitted to avoid obscuring the subject matter of the present disclosure. Further, in the following description of the present disclosure, various specific definitions found in the following description are provided only to provide a general understanding of the present disclosure, and it is apparent to those skilled in the art that the present disclosure can be implemented without such definitions.

The present disclosure, in part, is directed to makeup stencils and kits that address certain of the limitations of conventional approaches for applying makeup, particularly, an eyeliner. Referring to FIGS. 1-2, a non-limiting embodiment of a makeup kit 100 is illustrated. The makeup kit 100 includes a packaging tray 110 and a makeup stencil 120 removably coupled or attached to the packaging tray 110. For example, the makeup stencil 120 may be attached to the packaging tray 110 via glue or friction. The makeup stencil 120 includes a surface 130 defining an outer region 140, a plurality of cutouts 150 in the outer region 140, and at least one indicium 160 located about a periphery of the outer region 140 between a pair of the plurality of the cutouts 150. Each cutout 150 is so dimensioned for application of a makeup therethrough.

According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the makeup is an eyeliner. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the makeup kit 100 includes an eyeliner applicator 170 and an eyeliner container 180. The eyeliner applicator 170 and the eyeliner container 180 may be removably attached to the packaging tray 110. For example, the eyeliner applicator 170 and the eyeliner container 180 may be attached to the packaging tray 110 via glue or friction. Although FIGS. 1-2 illustrate the makeup kit 100 as including the eyeliner applicator 170, in other embodiments the makeup kit 100 may include other applicators such as a sponge applicator, e.g., for using with ink. The makeup kit 100 is not limited in this regard.

Referring also to FIG. 3, according to the illustrated non-limiting embodiment, the surface 130 is substantially circular. In other embodiments, however, the surface 130 may assume any geometric form, including, but not limited, to an ellipsoidal shape, a teardrop shape, a regular polyhedral shape, and an irregular polyhedral shape, derivatives thereof, and combinations thereof.

According to certain non-limiting embodiments, each cutout 150 includes a pair of arcuate edges 190 defining a crescent tip 200. Other configurations are possible depending on the usage requirements or preferences for the particular makeup stencil 120, including configurations where the plurality of cutouts 150 are generally wedge-shaped when viewed from above. For example, each cutout 150 can generally be a pre-defined equilateral, isosceles, or scalene triangle when viewed from above. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the plurality of cutouts 150 include varying cutout areas. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the cutout areas of the plurality of cutouts 150 increase along a contour of the surface 130 (e.g., clockwise or counterclockwise when viewed from above). According to the illustrated embodiment, the makeup stencil 120 includes six cutouts. In other embodiments, however, the makeup stencil 120 may include fewer or more than six cutouts. The makeup stencils and kits described herein are not limited in this regard. The varying cutout areas can be used to achieve different styles of makeup.

According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the at least one indicium 160 includes a plurality of radial lines or tabs 210. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the indicia 160 include up to ten radial lines. For example, the indicia 160 may include two or more, three or more, four or more, five or more, six or more, seven or more, eight or more, or nine or more lines between a pair of the plurality of cutouts 150. The at least one indicium 160 is configured to measure a distance between the makeup (e.g., eyeliner), and a facial feature, as further detailed below.

According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the surface 130 includes at least one a number (e.g., “1”, “2,” “3,” etc.), a letter (“e.g., “A,” “B,” “C,” etc.), and a symbol (e.g., “∘,” “▴,” etc.) associated with the cutout areas. The surface 130 can include any of a virtually unlimited variety of numbers, letters, alphanumerics, colors, shapes, designs, or combinations of any of these, for example, so long as they can be used to identify a cutout area of the plurality of cutouts 150. Upon considering the present description, those having ordinary skill may readily design or identify other possible numbers, letters, or symbols that can be used to identify a cutout area of the plurality of cutouts 150. Other configurations are possible depending on the usage requirements or preferences for the particular makeup stencil 120, including configurations where the surface 130 does not include any numbers, letters, or symbols.

According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the makeup stencil 120 is formed of a substantially transparent or translucent material so that the numbers, letters, or symbols are visible from the rear. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the makeup stencil 120 may be composed of a substantially pliable and lightweight material such as thin plastic, paper, or cardboard.

Referring also to FIG. 4, in using the makeup stencil 120, the makeup stencil 120 is positioned in proximity to an individual's eye E. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the user depresses the makeup stencil 120 against the face F, thereby forming close contact between a certain cutout 150 and the face F. The user then applies the eyeliner through the cutout 150 on one eye, e.g., by generally following the edge or contour of the cutout 150 with the eyeliner. Concurrently or subsequently, the user measures the distance or angle between a corner of the eyeliner and a facial feature, e.g., a distal tip of the eyebrow B. This can be accomplished for example by counting the number of indicia 160 between the eyeliner and the eyebrow B. Referring also to FIG. 5, the makeup stencil 120 is reversed or rotated and positioned in proximity to the opposite eye. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the user can use the same number of indicia 160 between the eyeliner and the eyebrow B to apply a substantially symmetric eyeliner to the opposite eye. In this regard, the indicia 160 comprising the plurality of lines or tabs 210 disclosed herein may resemble and operate like a ruler or protractor.

According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the makeup stencil 120 can be used for various applications or occasions, e.g., for applying theatrical makeup, for clowns, for sporting event attendees, or for attendees of a dark area such as a nightclub. For example, the makeup stencil 120 can be used for applying a fluorescent or glow-in-the-dark ink. The makeup stencil 120 is not limited in this regard. Further, although FIGS. 4-5 illustrate the makeup stencil 120 used on the eyes, in other embodiments the makeup stencil 120 can be used around other facial features such as lips. For example, the makeup stencil 120 can be positioned in proximity to the corners of an individual's lips, and used to measure the distance or angle between the corner of the lips and another facial feature, e.g., a nostril of the nose. According to certain non-limiting embodiments, the makeup stencil 120 can be used for non-makeup applications such as when trimming facial hair and/or eyebrows B. For example, the makeup stencil 120 can be positioned in proximity to an individual's eyebrows B, and the eyebrows B can be trimmed by generally following the edge or contour of the cutout 150 with a pair of scissors.

While the invention has been shown and described with reference to certain embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and detail may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.
