BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The field of the present invention relates to travel luggage, and, more specifically, to a hanging clothing transport for organizing and storing clothing and other personal items for travel.

People often find it desirable or necessary to pack multiple bulky personal items when traveling and desire to have them neatly arranged, separated and protected from each other. Examples of these items may include, but are not limited to shoes, outerwear, multiple sweaters, jeans, and purses. This can be difficult when there are limitations with regard to the size and quantity of compartments in this category of luggage.

Sometimes, our travel destinations are equipped with large horizontal closet rods, making it challenging to hang a travel bag.

The amount of items a bag in this category can carry is further limited by the rigid hardware, and/or unyielding construction of the bag.

The present inventor recognized the need for a non-rigid duffle style bag, equipped exclusively of 5 large compartments that are arranged in a linear fashion for hanging and exposing all of its contents, an extra large suspension hook, and a belt that is not limited by hardware.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

To meet the purposes, and to solve these deficiencies, the bag structure of the invention (also referred to, herein, as a “bag, duffle bag, or duffle style bag”) is made of a pliable textile and has 5 oversized zippered compartments, an extra large S-type hanging hook, and a belt that loops onto itself.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In the disclosed invention, while the embodiments are described herein with reference to illustrative examples, it should be understood that the embodiments are not limited thereto.

The exterior of the bag, FIG. 4, may be constructed from a number of materials e.g. quilted fabric, soft leather, and padded nylon. The interior of the bag, FIG. 3, is comprised of five compartments; one extra large center compartment 18 and four large, equally distributed outer compartments 16, 17, 19, 20. All five compartment facings 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 are on the interior of the bag. They are constructed of clear plastic sheets 9 and zippers 7 along their top edges.

FIG. 1 illustrates the front of the closed bag, which demonstrates its cylindrical duffle shape when filled. FIG. 2 shows the back of the closed bag when filled, also showing its cylindrical duffle shape. FIG. 3 shows the five interior plastic covered compartments, each with their own zippers 7. Each zipper pull has a small ribbon 8 tied through it for added grip.

The body of the present invention is stitched together as represented by broken lines in FIG. 4.

The dimensions of the bag are significant to its purpose, measuring 26″×60″ when completely opened and is rectangular in shape. The length of the bag, when hanging on a closet rod of average height, uses nearly all of vertical space.

FIG. 3 shows the left 13 and right 14 margins which measure 3″ wide. The left 13 and right 14 margins each contain an identical ribbon and two grommets located at the level of the second and fifth zipper. Each ribbon passes through the interior of the bag lengthwise and exits through the grommets 6.

FIG. 3 shows that immediately adjacent to each of the grommets 6 are a corresponding toggle 5 and simple knot 21 which serve to keep the ribbon 4 in place.

Contained within the top margin 15 of the opened bag is a rod 3 which extends slightly short of the length of the zipper 7 as seen in FIG. 3. The rod 3 serves to keep the top edges 15 from folding over and to maintain the rectangular shape of the open bag. The rod 3 may be constructed of, but is not limited to, for example, wood, stiff plastic, or carbon fiber. FIG. 3 shows a semi-rigid strip of material 2 onto which any S-type hook 1 can be attached. The length and semi-rigidity of the extension 2 allow the user to hang the open bag in higher to reach places e.g. a standard size door.

FIG. 4 illustrates the outside of the opened bag showing the placement and stitching of the handles 12, belt 10, and belt loops 11. The belt measures 3″×50″ and is sewn onto outside of the bag as shown in FIG. 4. The handles 12 are one continuous loop that extends approximately the length of the bag with the top and bottom portions loose for carrying.

The two belt loops 11 measure approximately 1″×3″ and are approximately 1″ apart and are sewn onto the outside of the bag as shown in FIG. 4. The belt 10 and the handles 12 both function independent of each other. They both also significantly support the closed bag when carrying. This is evident when holding the bag in its closed form, as in FIG. 2.

FIG. 3 shows an enlarged view of the custom hook 1 measuring 2.25″×3.25″. It is a removable S-type triangle base hook 1.

To begin the process of closing the bag, simply fold compartments one 16 and five 20 inward as shown in FIG. 5.

Next, fold the remaining two compartments 17, 19 in the same manner. This will result in a triangular shaped bag when empty, as shown in FIG. 6. When the bag is full, it begins to take on a cylindrical shape.

In order to fasten the belt 10 take the loose end and pass it across the top of the bag and under the two belt loops 11 as shown in FIG. 7, then pass the loose end back through the top loop 11 as shown in FIG. 8.

To partially conceal the ends of the duffle bag, take hold of a toggle 5 with one hand and take hold of the ribbon 4 in another hand. Then, gently squeeze the toggle 5 toward the bag while pulling the ribbon 4 away from the bag. Repeat this step with the adjacent ribbon and toggle, and then tie the two ends of ribbon 4 as one would tie their shoe laces. Replicate this on the other side of the bag. This will also serve to round the edges of the bag to create a cylindrical shape and is ready to be carried, as shown in FIG. 9.

To open the bag, reverse the process.

The bag can then be filled with many bulky items as shown in FIG. 10.

When the bag is full, it remains slender as seen in FIG. 11.

It will be obvious to those having skill in the art that many changes may be made to the details of the above described embodiments without departing from the underlying principles of the invention.

Claims

1. A device for organizing and storing bulky items used for travel, the device comprising of one extra large and five large zipper enclosed compartments, with the capacity to accommodate, organize and clearly see multiple items at one time, when the bag is open.

2. The device of claim 1 has the dimensions and design that are unique to its functionality.

The overall size is 26″×60″, and can range within 3″;
The zippers each measure 20″, and can range within 3″;
The first, second, fourth, and fifth compartments measure 11″×20″ and can range within 3″;
The central compartment measures 13″×20″ and can range within 3″;
The belt measures 3″×50″ and has a wide range of expansion and can range within 3″.

3. The device of claim 1, further comprising of a strong, oversized, custom S-type triangle base hook.

The overall size is 2.25″×3.25″ and can range within 3 cm.

4. The device of claim 1 is unique in the way in which it is closed and opened.

To close the duffle, simply lay it on a flat surface with the plastic side facing up and fold the 1st and 5th compartments inward;
Next, take hold both of the newly folded edges and fold inward in the same fashion. This will result in a triangular shape when the two edges meet;
To close the belt, pass it across the top of the bag and under the two belt loops and pull until the contents feel secure. Next, take the loose end of the belt and pass it under the top loop;
To conceal the ends of the duffle, pull one of the ribbons by simultaneously squeezing the toggle and pushing it forward until the bag is cinched in this area Release the toggle. Repeat for adjacent ribbon. This will cause the flat edge of the bag to become more rounded. Conceal the opposite side of the bag in the same manner;
Tie remainder of the ribbon in a bow on each side as one would tie their shoelaces;
To open the bag, simply reverse the process.

5. The device of claim 1, further comprises of a extra large center compartment which has a dual function to carry larger items as well as serve as the base once the bag is closed.
