ADAPTABLE HAT

An adaptable hat includes a hat, at least one aperture, and at least one fastener configured for wear with a headpiece. The adaptable hat may be configured for wear with a headset. The adaptable hat may further be configured for wear with a headpiece. The fastener of the adaptable hat may include at least one securing implement. The adaptable hat reduces the amount of heat that leaves a body through a head. The adaptable hat allows for unimpaired hearing of communications from the headset.

Description
REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/469,007 entitled “ADAPTABLE HAT” filed Mar. 9, 2017, which is incorporated by reference in its entirety.

BACKGROUND

Certain professions, such as airline pilots, football coaches, and the like, require the use of a headset or a headpiece. These professions also include exposure to weather elements. In order to carry out the responsibilities of the profession, it is important for an individual to maintain a comfortable body temperature (e.g. 36.5-37.5 degrees Celsius), so that the individual remains warm and comfortable and is not distracted from performing their job responsibilities. It is also essential that individuals in these professions clearly hear communications (e.g. sound waves) from their headset or headpiece.

A conventional method for maintaining a comfortable body temperature is by covering an individual's head by wearing a hat, which lessens air flow to the head and reduces the amount of heat that may leave a human body through the head. Conventional hats worn by individuals in professions that require the use of a headset or headpiece present problems for preventing or lessening heat leaving the body through the head, while still allowing communications to be heard clearly from the headset or headpiece. Specifically, wearing a hat over a headset or headpiece creates an air gap between the hat and the individual's head, leading to an increase in air flow to the head and increasing the amount of heat that may leave the body.

Alternatively, the individual may wear the hat pulled up on one or both sides so as to not cover the portion of the headset or headpiece covering the individual's ears. Wearing the hat in this manner exposes more surface area of the head, increasing the amount of heat that leaves the body through the head. Further, if the individual wears the hat under the headset or headpiece it impairs sound waves traveling from the earpiece of the headset or headpiece to the ear, impairing hearing. This hearing impairment may lead to an impairment or inability of the individual to carry out job responsibilities. Further, there is a potential for hearing loss from loud ambient sound when the ear is not properly protected by a headset or headpiece, such as when a hat is worn underneath the headset or headpiece.

It is desirable to have a hat that is compatible with a headset or headpiece to reduce the amount of heat that leaves a body through the head, while allowing unimpaired hearing of communications.

SUMMARY

An adaptable hat is described. In one aspect of the invention an adaptable hat includes a hat configured for wearing on a head, the hat including an aperture and a fastener, wherein the aperture is formed from the hat and is configured for wearing with a headpiece, and wherein the fastener is in textile communication with the hat near the aperture and is configured for securing the hat close to the head.

In another aspect of the invention, an adaptable hat includes a hat configured for wearing on a head, the hat including a first aperture, a second aperture, a first fastener, and a second fastener, wherein the first aperture is formed from the hat the second aperture is formed from the hat, and the first aperture and the second aperture are configured for wearing with a headset, and wherein the first fastener is in textile communication with the hat near the first aperture the second fastener is in textile communication with the hat near the second aperture, and the first fastener and the second fastener are configured for securing the hat close to the head.

In another aspect of the invention, an adaptable hat include a hat a hat configured for wearing on a head, the hat including an aperture, wherein the aperture is formed from the hat and is configured for wearing with a headpiece; and a means for fastening the aperture to secure the hat close to the head.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

An adaptable hat includes a hat, at least one aperture, and at least one fastener configured for wear with a headpiece. The adaptable hat may be configured for wear with a headset. The fastener of the adaptable hat may include at least one securing implement. The fastener may be a means for fastening to secure the hat close to a head of a wearer. The adaptable hat reduces the amount of heat that leaves a body through a head.

FIG. 1 is a side angle view of an adaptable hat 100. The adaptable hat includes, a hat 102, at least one aperture 104, and at least one fastener 108. The at least one fastener 108 of the adaptable hat 100 may include at least one securing implement 106. The hat 102 is configured for wear on a head of a human being. The hat 102 is configured for retaining heat from the head of the human being in a wear position. The hat 102 may be made of any material to retain heat from the head, such as cotton, fleece, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, wool, leather, carbon foam, nylon, melamine, modacrylic, aramids (such as, nomex, kevelar), and combinations thereof. The hat 102 may be made of a material that has fire retardant properties (fire retardant material), such as aramids (nomex, kevelar), coated nylon, leather, wool, and combinations thereof. In the wear position the hat 102 may be over the headpiece. In the wear position the hat 102 may be under the headpiece.

The at least one aperture 104 of the hat 102 is configured for wear with a headpiece. The at least one aperture 104 is formed from the hat 102. The at least one aperture 104 may be of any shape that accommodates an earpiece of a headpiece, such as a circle, oval, or rectangle. Preferably the at least one aperture 104 is oval in shape. The at least one aperture 104 may be any size to accommodate the earpiece of the headpiece, such as from 2.54 to 25.4 centimeters (1 to 10 inches) when the headpiece is worn under the hat 102. The at least one aperture 104 may be any size to accommodate the ear of the human being, such as from 2.2 to 15.24 centimeters (1 to 6 inches) when the headpiece is worn over the hat 102.

In the wear position, where the hat 102 is over headpiece, the at least one aperture 104 extends around the earpiece, such that the hat 102 fits close to the head, reducing air flow to the head and reducing body heat leaving through the head, while providing uninhibited travel of sound waves from the headpiece to an ear of the human being (e.g. the hat is not between the earpiece and the ear). In the wear position, where the hat 102 is under the headpiece, the at least one aperture 104 extends around the ear such that the hat 102 fits close to the head, reducing air flow to the head and reducing body heat leaving through the head, while providing uninhibited travel of sound waves from the headpiece to the ear.

The at least one fastener 108 of the hat 102 is configured for securing the hat 102 close to the head, further reducing air flow to the head and reducing body heat lost from the head. The at least one fastener may be a means for fastening the aperture to secure the hat 102 close to the head. The at least one fastener 108 is in textile communication with the hat 102 and is near (e.g. in textile communication with the aperture, or a distance away from the aperture) the at least one aperture 104. The means for fastening the aperture may include a zipper, an elastic loop, a velcro strap, and a fabric strap having a snap fastener. The means for fastening may further include at least one securing implement 106 configured for receiving and securing a portion of the fastener. The at least one securing implement 106 is in textile communication with the hat 102. The securing implement 106 may be a button, a velcro patch, or a snap.

When the at least one fastener 108 is a zipper, the at least one fastener 108 is in textile communication with the at least one aperture 104, and may be located on each side of the at least one aperture 104. In a wear position, and as a means for fastening to secure the aperture, where the hat 102 is over the headpiece, and when the at least one fastener 108 is a zipper, the at least one fastener 108 is partially zipped to secure the hat 102 close to the head. In the wear position, and as a means for fastening to secure the aperture, where the hat 102 is under the headpiece, and when the at least one fastener 108 is a zipper, the at least one fastener 108 is partially zipped to secure the hat 102 close to the head.

When the at least one fastener 108 is an elastic loop, the at least one fastener 108 is in textile communication with the hat 102 near the aperture 104 as measured horizontally, such as from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters (0.01 inches to 4 inches). Preferably, the at least one fastener 108 is from 1.27 to 7.62 centimeters (0.5 to 3 inches) from the aperture 104. Most preferably, the at least one fastener 108 is 2.54 centimeters (1 inch) from the aperture 104. The fastener 108 is generally placed halfway (e.g. within 2.54 centimeters (1 inch) from halfway in either direction) between the top and the bottom of the aperture as measured vertically. The at least one fastener 108 further includes at least one securing implement 106. The elastic loop of the at least one fastener 108 may be in textile communication with the interior of the hat 102. The elastic loop of the at least one fastener 108 may be in textile communication with the exterior of the hat 102.

When the at least one fastener 108 is an elastic loop, the at least one securing implement 106 of the at least one fastener 108 is in textile communication with the exterior of the hat 102, near the at least one aperture 104, such as from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters (0.01 inches to 4 inches), generally opposite the elastic loop, as measured horizontally. Preferably, the at least one fastener 108 is from 1.27 to 7.62 centimeters (0.5 to 3 inches) from the aperture 104. Most preferably, the at least one fastener 108 is 2.54 centimeters (1 inch) from the aperture 104. In the wear position, and as a means for fastening the aperture, where the hat 102 is over the headpiece, the elastic loop of the at least one fastener 108 may be secured to the at least one securing implement 106 over the earpiece, to secure the hat 102 close to the head. In the wear position, and as a means for fastening the aperture, where the hat 102 is under the headpiece, the elastic loop of the at least one fastener 108 may be secured to the at least one securing implement 106 under the earpiece to secure the hat 102 close to the head.

When the at least one fastener 108 is a velcro strap, the at least one fastener 108 is in textile communication with the hat 102 near the aperture 104 as measured horizontally, such as from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters (0.01 inches to 4 inches). Preferably, the at least one fastener 108 is from 1.27 to 7.62 centimeters (0.5 to 3 inches) from the aperture 104. Most preferably, the at least one fastener 108 is 2.54 centimeters (1 inch) from the aperture 104. The fastener is generally halfway between the top and bottom of the aperture, as measured vertically. The at least one fastener 108 further includes at least one securing implement 106. The velcro strap of the at least one fastener 108 may be in textile communication with the interior of the hat 100. The velcro strap of the at least one fastener 108 may be in textile communication with the exterior of the hat 102. The at least one securing implement 106 of the at least one fastener 108 is in textile communication with the exterior of the hat 102, near the at least one aperture 104, generally opposite the velcro strap as measured horizontally, such as from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters (0.01 inches to 4 inches) near the aperture. Preferably, the at least one securing implement 106 is from 1.27 to 7.62 centimeters (0.5 to 3) inches from the at least one aperture 104. Most preferably, the at least one securing implement 106 is 2.54 centimeters (1 inch) from the at least one aperture 104.

In a wear position, and as a means for fastening the aperture, where the hat 102 is over the headpiece, the velcro strap of the at least one fastener 108 may be secured to the at least one securing implement 106 over the earpiece, to secure the hat 102 close to the head. In a wear position, and as a means for fastening the aperture, where the hat 102 is under the headpiece, the at least one velcro strap fastener 108 is secured to the at least one securing implement 106 under the earpiece to secure the hat 102 close to the head. Further, when the hat 102 is on the head of wearer, and where the hat 102 is over the headpiece, the velcro strap fastener 108 may be unsecured to the securing implement 106, such as rolled in on itself, such that the velcro strap fastener 108 remains close to the hat 102.

FIG. 2 is a side angle view of an adaptable hat 100 in an open position. The adaptable hat 100 includes a hat 102, an at least one aperture 104, and at least one fastener 108. The at least one fastener 108 may further include at least one securing implement 106. In an open position (e.g. the hat is not in contact with a head of a human being), the at least one aperture 104 is in a relaxed state, where the at least one securing implement 106 does not reduce the size of the at least one aperture 104.

FIG. 3 is a side angle view of an adaptable hat 100 in a wear position. The adaptable hat 100 includes a hat 102, at least one aperture 104, and at least one fastener 108. The at least fastener 108 may further include an at least one securing implement 106. In the wear position the at least one fastener 108 is fastened via a means for fastening the aperture to secure the hat close to the head reducing air flow to the head and reducing loss of body heat from the head. In the wear position the size of the at least one aperture 104 may decrease as compared to an open position.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an adaptable hat 100 worn with a headpiece. The adaptable hat 100 includes a hat 102, an at least one aperture 104, and at least one fastener 108. The at least one fastener 108 may further include an at least one securing implement 106. As illustrated in FIG. 4, in a wear position where the hat 102 is over the headpiece, the at least one aperture 104 extends around an earpiece of the headpiece and the at least one fastener 108 is fastened via a means for fastening the aperture over the earpiece, to secure the hat 102 close to the head reducing air flow to the head, reducing body heat lost through the head, and providing uninhibited travel of sound waves from the headpiece to the ear.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view of an adaptable hat 100 worn with a headset. The adaptable hat 100 includes a hat 102, a first aperture (not pictured), a second aperture 204, a first fastener (not pictured), a second fastener 208, a first securing implement (not pictured), and a second securing implement 206. The first aperture and the second aperture 204 are substantially similar to the at least one aperture as described herein. The first fastener and the second fastener 208 are substantially similar to the at least one fastener as described herein. The first securing implement and the second securing implement 206 are substantially similar to the at least one fastener as described herein. As illustrated in FIG. 5, in a wear position where the hat 102 in under the headset, the first aperture and second aperture 204 extend around the ears of a human being, and the first fastener and the second fastener 208 are fastened via a means for fastening the aperture, underneath the earpiece, respectively, to secure the hat 102 close to the head reducing air flow to the head, reducing body heat lost through the head, and providing uninhibited travel of sound waves from the headpiece to the ear.

FIG. 6 is a side view of an adaptable hat 100 illustrating a means for fastening the aperture to secure the hat close to the head, where the means for is a velcro strap and velcro patch. The adaptable hat 100 includes a hat 102, a first aperture 104, a fastener 108, and a securing implement 106. The fastener 108 is a velcro strap. The fastener is in textile communication with the exterior of the hat 102 near the aperture 104. The securing implement 106 is a velcro patch. The securing implement 106 is in textile communication with the hat 102 near the aperture 104 generally opposite the velcro strap of the fastener 108.

FIG. 7 is a side view of an adaptable hat 100 illustrating a means for fastening the aperture to secure the hat 102 close to the head, where the means for is a zipper. The adaptable hat 100 includes a hat 102, a first aperture 104, and a fastener 108. The fastener 108 is a zipper. The fastener 108 is in textile communication with the aperture 104, and may be located on each side of the aperture 104.

Claims

1. An adaptable hat to reduce body heat from leaving a head when wearing a headpiece, the adaptable hat comprising:

a hat configured for wearing on a head, the hat comprising an aperture and a fastener, wherein the aperture is formed from the hat and is configured for wearing with a headpiece, and wherein the fastener is in textile communication with the hat near the aperture and is configured for securing the hat close to the head.

2. The adaptable hat of claim 1, wherein the fastener further comprises a securing implement, wherein

the securing implement is a button, and wherein
the fastener is an elastic loop.

3. The adaptable hat of claim 2, wherein The elastic loop of the fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the aperture, and wherein

The securing implement of the fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the aperture, and is generally opposite the elastic portion of the fastener.

4. The adaptable hat of claim 1, wherein the fastener comprises a securing implement, wherein

the securing implement is a velcro patch, and wherein
the fastener is a velcro strap.

5. The adaptable hat of claim 4, wherein the velcro strap of the fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the aperture, and wherein

the securing implement of the fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the aperture, and is generally opposite the elastic portion of the fastener.

6. The adaptable hat of claim 1, wherein the fastener is a zipper, wherein

the zipper is in textile communication with the aperture of the hat.

7. The adaptable hat of claim 3, wherein the hat is a material chosen from the group consisting of cotton, fleece, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, wool, leather, carbon foam, nylon, melamine, modacrylic, nomex, kevelar, and combinations thereof.

8. The adaptable hat of claim 3, wherein the hat is a material that has fire retardant properties and is chosen from the group consisting of nomex, kevelar, coated nylon, leather, wool, and combinations thereof.

9. An adaptable hat to reduce body heat from leaving a head when wearing a headset, the adaptable hat comprising:

a hat configured for wearing on a head, the hat comprising a first aperture, a second aperture, a first fastener, and a second fastener, wherein the first aperture is formed from the hat the second aperture is formed from the hat, and the first aperture and the second aperture are configured for wearing with a headset, and wherein
the first fastener is in textile communication with the hat near the first aperture
the second fastener is in textile communication with the hat near the second aperture, and the first fastener and the second fastener are configured for securing the hat close to the head.

10. The adaptable hat of claim 9, wherein

The first fastener further comprises a first securing implement, wherein The first securing implement is a button, and wherein The first fastener is an elastic loop; and
The second fastener further comprises a second securing implement, wherein The second securing implement is a button, and wherein The second fastener is an elastic loop.

11. The adaptable hat of claim 10, wherein The elastic loop of the first fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the first aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the first aperture, and wherein

The first securing implement of the first fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the first aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the first aperture, and is generally opposite the elastic portion of the first fastener, and wherein
The elastic loop of the second fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the second aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the second aperture, and wherein
The first securing implement of the first fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the second aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the second aperture, and is generally opposite the elastic portion of the second fastener.

12. The adaptable hat of claim 9, wherein

The first fastener further comprises a first securing implement, wherein The first securing implement is a velcro patch, and wherein The first fastener is a velcro strap; and
The second fastener further comprises a second securing implement, wherein The second securing implement is a velcro patch, and wherein The second fastener is a velcro strap.

13. The adaptable hat of claim 10, wherein

The velcro strap of the first fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the first aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the first aperture, and wherein
The first securing implement of the first fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the first aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the first aperture, and is generally opposite the velcro strap of the first fastener, and wherein
The velcro strap of the second fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the second aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the second aperture, and wherein
The first securing implement of the first fastener is horizontally placed from 0.0254 to 10.16 centimeters from the second aperture and is vertically placed generally halfway between the top and bottom of the second aperture, and is generally opposite the velcro strap of the second fastener.

14. The adaptable hat of claim 9, wherein

the first fastener is a zipper, wherein the zipper is in textile communication with the first aperture of the hat, and wherein the second fastener is a zipper, wherein the zipper is in textile communication with the second aperture of the hat.

15. The adaptable hat of claim 11, wherein the hat is a material chosen from the group consisting of cotton, fleece, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, wool, leather, carbon foam, nylon, melamine, modacrylic, nomex, kevelar, and combinations thereof.

16. The adaptable hat of claim 11, wherein

the hat is a material that has fire retardant properties and is chosen from the group consisting of nomex, kevelar, coated nylon, leather, wool, and combinations thereof.

17. An adaptable hat comprising:

a hat configured for wearing on a head, the hat comprising an aperture, wherein the aperture is formed from the hat and is configured for wearing with a headpiece; and a means for fastening the aperture to secure the hat close to the head.

18. The adaptable hate of claim 17, wherein

The aperture is from 2.54 to 15.24 centimeters in length.

19. The adaptable hat of claim 17, wherein

the hat is a material chosen from the group consisting of cotton, fleece, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, wool, leather, carbon foam, nylon, melamine, modacrylic, nomex, kevelar, and combinations thereof.

20. The adaptable hat of claim 18, wherein

the hat is a material that has fire retardant properties and is chosen from the group consisting of nomex, kevelar, coated nylon, leather, wool, and combinations thereof.
