CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62/804,850, filed Feb. 13, 2019, which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

Provided is a non-slip bedding accessory, such as a skirt material for mattress pads, mattress covers, bed skirts, mattress protectors, etc., comprising a plurality of “grip dots” applied to an inner facing surface. In one embodiment, the non-slip bedding material wraps around the sides and underneath a mattress and/or box spring. Further provided is a non-slip bedding skirt material comprising a grip elastic band, which provides for added strength and holding power.

BACKGROUND

A variety of bedding accessories are in use, such as bed skirts, dust ruffles, valences, mattress covers, mattress pads, etc. These bedding accessories provide a variety of benefits ranging from aesthetics to increased comfort to protective functions. One common drawback is the inability of these bedding accessories to remain in place. In some cases, an elastic band may be found along the periphery or a portion of the periphery, such as commonly found on fitted sheets. However, while this elastic band may retain, for example, a mattress cover over a mattress, it does not prevent or reduce the unwanted bunching or aggregation of materials and resultant non-uniform covering. Thus, a need exist for improved bedding accessories which better retain their position and reduce or eliminate non-uniform covering.

SUMMARY

In one aspect, a bedding accessory is provided, wherein the bedding accessory is formed from a material comprising non-slip features disposed on an inner-facing surface. In one embodiment, the non-slip features comprise silicone, rubber or plastic disposed on the inner-facing surface, referred to as “grip dots”. The non-slip features are designed to engage a bedding component, such as a mattress or box-spring, and restrict movement of the bedding accessory relative to the bedding component. In an alternative embodiment, the non-slip features engage a covering or other protective layer of the mattress or box-spring. The non-slip features can be one of a variety of shapes, such as circular, and sizes, and be disposed in a variety of patterns and densities.

In an additional embodiment, the bedding accessory further comprises grip elastic band disposed on the periphery or a portion of the periphery of the bedding accessory. In one embodiment, the grip elastic band provides added strength and holding power to a portion of the bedding accessory that, for example, wraps under the mattress and/or box spring.

In another aspect, a method for reducing or eliminating movement of a bedding accessory relative to a bedding component is provided.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

In one aspect, a bedding accessory is provided, wherein the bedding accessory is formed from a material comprising non-slip features disposed on an inner-facing surface. In one embodiment, the non-slip features comprise silicone, rubber, plastic, elastane, or a combination thereof, disposed as a pattern on the inner-facing surface. The non-slip features are designed to engage a bedding component, such as a mattress or box-spring, and restrict movement of the bedding accessory relative to the bedding component. The non-slip features can be one of a variety of shapes, such as circular or a dot, and be disposed in a variety of patterns and densities. In one embodiment, the non-slip features are substantially circular in shape and have a diameter ranging from about 1/10 of an inch to about an inch. In one embodiment, the non-slip features are disposed uniformly and at a density of about one non-slip feature per square foot to about 3,000 non-slip features per square foot. In another embodiment, the non-slip features are not disposed uniformly over the inner-facing surface. In one embodiment, the non-slip features are concentrated at areas of the inner-facing surface that correspond to edges and/or corners of the bedding component. In one embodiment, the non-slip features are not present as discrete shapes but are disposed on the inner-facing surface as lines. In one embodiment, the non-slip features comprise a series of substantially parallel lines, substantially perpendicular lines, or random intersecting lines.

In one embodiment, the non-slip features are heat-bonded to the fabric, however, other methods known in the art are also suitable for adhering the non-slip features to the bedding accessory. In an additional embodiment, the non-slip features are also disposed on an outer-facing surface of the bedding accessory. In such an embodiment, the non-slip features on the outer-facing surface can engage, and prevent slippage of, a top covering article, such as a sheet. The non-slip features on the outer-facing surface are disposed uniformly and at a density of about one non-slip feature per square foot to about 3,000 non-slip features per square foot. In another embodiment, the non-slip features are not disposed uniformly over the outer-facing surface. In one embodiment, the non-slip features are concentrated at areas of the outer-facing surface that correspond to edges and/or corners of the bedding component.

In one embodiment, the grip elastic band in sewn into the edge(s), or a portion thereof, of the bedding accessory.

In another aspect, a method for reducing or eliminating movement of a bedding accessory relative to a bedding component is provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises adding non-slip features, as described above to a bedding accessory. In a further embodiment of the method, a grip elastic band is sewn into at least one edge, or a portion thereof, of the bedding accessory.
