The air conduit is preferably a tube leading to the vicinity of the center of the panel, and the air passageways are open channels formed according to a spiral formation starting from the center of the panel and leading to its outer edge. To enable its use in automotive vehicles, one described embodiment includes an air-funnel attachable to the exterior of the automotive vehicle and connected to the free end of the air conduit for conducting air thereto, and a second described embodiment includes a connection for connecting the free end of the air conduit to the ventilating fan of the automotive vehicle.

    Abstract: A redundant two-channel electromechanical fuze. The fuze contains two airiven turbines which, in turn, drive independent electrical alternators, the shafts of which drive governors that regulate constant speed gear-reducing assemblies. The output from the electrical alternators are fed to electronic timing circuits via a novel barometric sensing switch element. The barometric element includes a pressure sensitive diaphragm for closing a pair of contacts to connect the alternator output to the timing circuit only after the fuzed projectile has experienced a predetermined minimum free fall distance. The barometric sensing switch element housing further comprises a second diaphragm which, when activated by ram air, serves to unlock the turbine wheels for rotation, while simultaneously establishing a reference pressure for the first diaphragm.

    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for supporting load bearing, sharply curved girders, particularly for use in a transportation system. The sharply curved girders are supported only at their ends, even for those of substantial length, so as to reduce the number of vertical supports for the girders. This is achieved by providing a relatively short cross-support for the girder extending from the vertical support through the girder at each end thereof, with that cross-support or console having one end bearing on the vertical support and the other end forming a portion of a pivot bearing positioned on the inside of the curve of the girder. A crossbeam rigidly connected to the vertical support also extends transversely of each girder end and forms the opposite portion of the pivot bearing. Thus, torsional forces tending to twist the outside of the curve of the girder downwardly under load is compensated by the pivot bearing which provides a twisting force in the opposite direction.

The fluid enters the chamber in two distinct fluid paths moving vortically about the axis in the same direction of rotation, and the respective energy flow rates of fluid in these paths are comparable. The paths are generally vortical within the chamber and progress axially towards one another before combining where they meet to create the localized inward radial flow.

The driving power is provided by a pair of stepping motors each of whose mechanical outputs is connected by a separate cable drive to a work holder support for each coordinate system. The inertia of the work holder and the support is maintained low by separating the motors from the support. A pair of homing and limit assemblies is also connected to the cable system for preventing the work holder from being moved beyond the defined range of movement and for automatically positioning the work holder in a predetermined home position at the beginning and end of every operation.

    Abstract: The disclosure is directed to automatic bobbin rewinding for sewing machines. A two-station mechanism is provided enabling bobbins to be transferred from a winding position to a sewing position, with one bobbin being at all times in each position. When a bobbin is exhausted, that bobbin and its case are removed from the sewing machine and, simultaneously, a filled bobbin is removed from the winding position and combined with its case. The bobbin positions are then reversed, enabling the filled bobbin and its case to be inserted in the sewing machine, while the just-removed bobbin is separated from its case and inserted in the winding position. The filled bobbin remains attached to the main thread supply until it is inserted in the sewing position, enabling the thread to be guided and controlled until picked up by the sewing mechanism, thus avoiding the need for manual intervention.

    Abstract: Insects are collected and fed to aquatic animals such as fish and frogs. In collecting the insects, an ultraviolet lamp for attracting the insects is hidden in a vertical funnel where the insects cannot see the lamp from a horizontal position. However, the lamp is open to view from above. The insects therefore must fly downwardly to reach the lamp. The lamp is positioned near the exit of the funnel, and the exit empties into an enclosed air space above the water containing the aquatic animals to be fed. A fan is located below the lamp to draw air downwardly through the funnel and into the enclosure below. The insects thus are urged into the trap by at least three forces: the force of gravity, inertia of the downwardly-flying insects, and the air drafts created by the fan. The funnel inlet makes a big target for the insects. Light is reflected upwardly by the funnel walls to attract airborne insects.
