  • Patent number: 4019500
Abstract: A cup for use in medical electrode structures comprises a one-piece body of plastic having a cup shape and thus having a base and a rim. The rim is rounded for comfortable skin contact and has integrally formed barbs projecting inwardly and downwardly toward the center of the cup. The barbs permit a prefilled electrolyte sponge to be dropped into the cup without appreciable resistance from the barbs, but resist any tendency for the prefilled sponge to separate from the cup. Accordingly the cup supports the prefilled electrolyte sponge for contact to the skin of a patient but resists any tendency of the sponge to escape the cup by clinging to the patient's skin.

  • Patent number: 4019504
Abstract: A medical splint kit having reusable components and serviceable during the X-raying of the body part involved. The kit has a splint member formed from a material transparent to X-irradiation such as an acrylic plastic. The splint also includes sections of minute loops or hooks to facilitate its affixation to the body member. Straps having hooks or loops, respectively, which will engage the sections on the splint affix the splint to the body. By incorporating sections of both hooks and loops, the strap, after surrounding the body member, will adhere to itself and retain the splint adjacent to and supportive of the injured area. A second splint member may also form part of the kit. A locking device passing through slots in both members hold the members together and provide an adjustable splint that can conform to the particular body member involved. Non-skid surfaces on both splint members will aid the splint in retaining their respective configuration.

  • Patent number: 4019513
Abstract: Automated apparatus for shaping the beaks of young fowl and simultaneously giving them an oral injection. A backing member is mounted for generally horizontal arcuate movement and a red-hot blade is mounted for generally vertical arcuate movement. The upper half of the fowl's beak is put on the top of the backing member which is urged forward by force exerted on the fowl's body. A pneumatic circuit is controlled by this forward movement and actuates a pneumatic jack which moves the blade downward clamping and cutting the fowl's beak at least partially. With the downward movement of the blade an injection gun may be triggered and compressed air injects a vaccine into the fowl's oral cavity through suitable apertures in the backing member. Compressed air is also carried through the backing member to blow away severed bits of beak. After a predetermined interval the pneumatic circuit returns the blade to its initial position.

  • Patent number: 4019531
Abstract: An inlet orifice device to control thruput flow for a pressure regulator, and to prevent increases in inlet pressure from causing variations in outlet pressure. The novel inlet orifice device also permits improved relief valve performance by limiting the maximum available thruput flow to constant levels, within the design range of inlet pressure, regardless of the variation of the inlet pressure supplied within such range. The improved inlet orifice device serves the dual function of controlling the thruput flow by (1) varying the open area (flow limiter area) on the inlet side of the pressure regulator thru the said device and (2) cooperating with the valve to vary the open area (throttling area) on the outlet side of the said device. The improved inlet orifice device includes a fixed nozzle on the inlet side and a control member moveable relative the nozzle and the valve, which valve is disposed on the outlet side and actuated responsive the diaphragm.

Abstract: The invention concerns the centering and the fixing of a long thin object inside a tubular body. It has as its object a means consisting in a filling in of the space left free by the long thin object inside the tubular body with a granular substance at least a part of which is agglomerated by means of a resinous isocure compound hardening when cold in a very short time on coming into contact with a gaseous catalyst. It applies more particularly to the centering of a wave guide in a metallic tube.

  • Patent number: 4019540
Abstract: A loom includes a take-up assembly to which the forward ends of longitudinal strands are attached and a tensioning assembly to which the rear ends of the strands are connected. The tensioning assembly maintains the strands taut and further arranges the strands in a predetermined array in which a plurality of strands exist in both crosswise directions. A shedding assembly is located between the take-up assembly and tensioning assembly and includes a plurality of vertical wires which pass crosswise through the array and a plurality of horizontal wires which also pass crosswise through the array. The vertical and horizontal wires are arranged in pairs with the two wires of each pair being on opposite sides of the longitudinal centerline for the array and spaced equally therefrom. Each pair of wires is supported on a single cable system having an actuator. The actuator when energized moves the cable system such that the wires either move together or spread apart.

  • Patent number: 4019544
Abstract: In forming a mat, a continuous length of wire is fed between a winding plate and a pair of laterally spaced parallel spindles located closely above the plate. The winding plate is adjustable relative to the spindles so that the wire forming the mat can be held gently between the spindles and the plate. A feed member is pivotally mounted for supplying the wire in a continuous alternating manner first to one spindle and then to the other. Each spindle has a helically formed wire guide followed by a screw thread. The wire fed to the spindles is directed into the screw threads by the wire guide. The spindles are rotated in opposite directions to obtain the desired feeding action. The mat is built up from a plurality of juxtaposed wire sections connected at their opposite ends by return bends. Welding members are movably positionable relative to the mat being formed to provide welding of the wire sections together on both sides of the mat.

Abstract: A sample fraction collector for sequentially collecting a plurality of samples of uniform volume despite variations in sample flow rate and/or viscosity comprises means defining a sample chamber, an outlet conduit means having a rotatable valve means therein, rack means for sequentially positioning a plurality of individual receptacles beneath a dispensing outlet of said outlet conduit means, a generally U-shaped tube for holding an electrolytic solution with first and second electrode means positioned in one leg and a pressure tube communicating between the other leg and the sample chamber. A control system is actuated by the electrolytic solution contacting both electrode means to energize the rack means to the next position and then to rotate the valve means to the open position for a period of time to drain the sample chamber.

  • Patent number: 4019547
Abstract: A method for filling containers with predetermined amounts of food material (e.g., leafy vegetable, like fresh blanched spinach). It employs a vertically extending tube having removable cut-off means at its lower end. The food material is supplied to the upper end of the tube in loose uncompacted form, and as it moves downwardly into the tube a column of the material is formed which provides progressively increased gravity compaction toward the lower end of the tube. Lower end portions of this column are recurrently cut off and caused to be transferred to containers being filled. Also apparatus for carrying out the method including the vertical tube into which the material is fed and having cut-off means at its lower end. Also, means is provided for continuously shaking the tube with a vertically directed stroke.

  • Patent number: 4019548
Abstract: A machine is described for shearing a block of wood into a plurality of individual sheets in a single pass through a plurality of vertically and horizontally spaced, stationary shearing knives. The knives are rigidly supported, one after the other, in vertically spaced relationship. Means are provided to force the wood block past the knives. A pressure applicator is provided for positively holding the wood block down against a horizontal supporting surface as it passes through the shearing knives. The wood block contacting surface of the pressure applicator is made up of a plurality of small diameter rod-like roller elements, each supported so that it can individually rotate with respect to adjacent roller elements. The roller elements contact each other and each is individually pressed against the wood block by a block-like mass of polyurethane elastomer of a durometer such that high unit pressure is maintained between each of the roller elements and the wood block.
